Doveri degli anziani e dei giovani; saluti

1 Esorto dunque gli anziani che sono tra di voi, io che sono anziano con loro e testimone delle sofferenze di Cristo e che sarò pure partecipe della gloria che deve essere manifestata:2 pascete il gregge di Dio che è tra di voi, {sorvegliandolo,} non per obbligo, ma volenterosamente secondo Dio; non per vile guadagno, ma di buon animo;3 non come dominatori di quelli che vi sono affidati, ma come esempi del gregge.

4 E quando apparirà il supremo pastore, riceverete la corona della gloria che non appassisce.

5 Così anche voi, giovani, siate sottomessi agli anziani. E tutti rivestitevi di umiltà gli uni verso gli altri, perché Dio resiste ai superbi ma dà grazia agli umili t.
6 Umiliatevi dunque sotto la potente mano di Dio, affinché egli vi innalzi a suo tempo,

7 gettando su di lui ogni vostra preoccupazione, perché egli ha cura di voi.
8 Siate sobri, vegliate; il vostro avversario, il diavolo, va attorno come un leone ruggente cercando chi possa divorare.

9 Resistetegli stando fermi nella fede, sapendo che le medesime sofferenze affliggono i vostri fratelli sparsi per il mondo.
10 Ora il Dio di ogni grazia, che vi ha chiamati alla sua gloria eterna in Cristo {Gesù}, dopo che avrete sofferto per breve tempo, vi perfezionerà egli stesso, vi renderà fermi, vi fortificherà stabilmente.

11 Alui sia la potenza, in eterno. Amen.

12 Per mezzo di Silvano, che considero vostro fedele fratello, vi ho scritto brevemente, esortandovi e attestando che questa è la vera grazia di Dio; in essa state saldi.
13 La chiesa che è in Babilonia, eletta come voi, vi saluta. Anche Marco, mio figlio, vi saluta.

14 Salutatevi gli uni gli altri con un bacio d'amore fraterno. Pace a voi tutti che siete in Cristo.

Helping Christian Leaders

1 Church leaders, I am writing to encourage you. I too am a leader, as well as a witness to Christ's suffering, and I will share in his glory when it is shown to us.
2  t Just as shepherds watch over their sheep, you must watch over everyone God has placed in your care. Do it willingly in order to please God, and not simply because you think you must. Let it be something you want to do, instead of something you do merely to make money. 3 Don't be bossy to those people who are in your care, but set an example for them.

4 Then when Christ the Chief Shepherd returns, you will be given a crown that will never lose its glory.

5  t All of you young people should obey your elders. In fact, everyone should be humble toward everyone else. The Scriptures say,
“God opposes proud people,
but he helps everyone
who is humble.”
6  t Be humble in the presence of God's mighty power, and he will honor you when the time comes.

7 t God cares for you, so turn all your worries over to him.
8 Be on your guard and stay awake. Your enemy, the devil, is like a roaring lion, sneaking around to find someone to attack. 9 But you must resist the devil and stay strong in your faith. You know that all over the world the Lord's followers are suffering just as you are. 10 But God shows undeserved kindness to everyone. That's why he appointed Christ Jesus to choose you to share in his eternal glory. You will suffer for a while, but God will make you complete, steady, strong, and firm.

11 God will be in control forever! Amen.
