توجّه رهبران كلیسا به اعضای آن
1 من كه یک رهبر كلیسا هستم و شاهد زحمات مسیح بودم و در آن جلالی كه قرار است بزودی ظاهر شود، شریک و سهیم خواهم بود، از شما رهبران كلیسا تقاضا میکنم: 2 از گلّهای كه خدا به شما سپرده است شبانی و مراقبت كنید و كاری كه انجام میدهید از روی اجبار نباشد، بلكه چنانکه خدا میخواهد آن را از روی میل و رغبت انجام دهید، نه به منظور منفعت شخصی بلكه با حُسن نیّت و علاقه. 3 سعی نكنید بر آنانی كه به دست شما سپرده شدهاند خداوندی نمایید، بلكه برای آن گلّه نمونه باشید. 4 و شما در وقتیکه شبان اعظم ظاهر میشود تاج پُرجلالی را خواهید ربود كه هرگز پژمرده نمیشود. 5 به همین طریق شما كه جوانتر هستید، باید مطیع رهبران كلیسا باشید و همهٔ شما حولهٔ فروتنی را به كمر بسته، یكدیگر را خدمت کنید زیرا خدا مخالف متكبّران است، امّا به فروتنان فیض میبخشد. 6 پس در مقابل قدرت خدا فروتن باشید تا او شما را در وقت مناسب سرفراز نماید.
7 بار تمام نگرانیهای خود را به دوش او بگذارید، زیرا او همیشه در فكر شماست.
8 هوشیار و مواظب باشید؛ زیرا دشمن شما ابلیس، چون شیری غُرّان به هرسو میگردد و در جستجوی كسی است كه او را ببلعد. 9 با قدرت ایمان در مقابل او بایستید، زیرا میدانید كه ایمانداران در تمام دنیا به همین زحمات دچار شدهاند. 10 امّا، پس از اینکه اندک زمانی رنج و زحمت دیدید، خدا كه بخشندهٔ تمام بركات روحانی است و شما را در مسیح دعوت كرده است كه در جلال جاودانی او شریک شوید، شما را كامل و ثابت قدم و قوی و استوار خواهد ساخت.
11 قدرت تا به ابد از آن اوست، آمین!خاتمه
12 این نامهٔ مختصر را با كمک «سیلوانس» كه او را یک برادر وفادار میدانم، نوشتهام تا شما را تشویق كنم و به آن فیض راستین خدا كه در آن استوار هستید، شهادت بدهم.
13 كلیسای شهر بابل كه برگزیدهٔ خداست، به شما سلام میرساند و همچنین پسر من «مرقس» سلام میرساند. 14 یكدیگر را با بوسهٔ محبّتآمیز سلام گویید. صلح و آرامش با همهٔ شما كه با مسیح متّحد هستید باد.

Helping Christian Leaders
1 Church leaders, I am writing to encourage you. I too am a leader, as well as a witness to Christ's suffering, and I will share in his glory when it is shown to us.
2 t Just as shepherds watch over their sheep, you must watch over everyone God has placed in your care. Do it willingly in order to please God, and not simply because you think you must. Let it be something you want to do, instead of something you do merely to make money. 3 Don't be bossy to those people who are in your care, but set an example for them.
4 Then when Christ the Chief Shepherd returns, you will be given a crown that will never lose its glory.
5 t All of you young people should obey your elders. In fact, everyone should be humble toward everyone else. The Scriptures say,
“God opposes proud people,
but he helps everyone
who is humble.”
6 t Be humble in the presence of God's mighty power, and he will honor you when the time comes.
7 t God cares for you, so turn all your worries over to him.
8 Be on your guard and stay awake. Your enemy, the devil, is like a roaring lion, sneaking around to find someone to attack. 9 But you must resist the devil and stay strong in your faith. You know that all over the world the Lord's followers are suffering just as you are. 10 But God shows undeserved kindness to everyone. That's why he appointed Christ Jesus to choose you to share in his eternal glory. You will suffer for a while, but God will make you complete, steady, strong, and firm.
11 God will be in control forever! Amen.Final Greetings
12 t Silvanus helped me write this short letter, and I consider him a faithful follower of the Lord. I wanted to encourage you and tell you how kind God really is, so you will keep on having faith in him.
