1. Samuel 19

1 Und Saul redete zu seinem Sohne Jonathan und zu allen seinen Knechten, daß er David töten wolle. Jonathan aber, der Sohn Sauls, hatte großes Wohlgefallen an David.2 Und Jonathan berichtete es David und sprach: Mein Vater Saul sucht dich zu töten; und nun hüte dich doch morgen und halte dich verborgen und verstecke dich.3 Ich aber will hinausgehen und an der Seite meines Vaters stehen auf dem Felde, wo du bist, und ich will zu meinem Vater von dir reden und sehen, wie es steht, und es dir berichten.4 Und Jonathan redete zu seinem Vater Saul Gutes von David und sprach zu ihm: Der König versündige sich nicht an seinem Knechte, an David; denn er hat nicht gegen dich gesündigt, und seine Taten sind dir sehr nützlich.5 Und er hat sein Leben aufs Spiel gesetzt und den Philister erschlagen, und Jehova hat dem ganzen Israel eine große Rettung geschafft. Du hast es gesehen und dich gefreut; und warum willst du dich an unschuldigem Blute versündigen, indem du David tötest ohne Ursache?6 Und Saul hörte auf die Stimme Jonathans, und Saul schwur: So wahr Jehova lebt, wenn er getötet wird!7 Da rief Jonathan dem David, und Jonathan berichtete ihm alle diese Worte. Und Jonathan brachte David zu Saul, und er war vor ihm wie früher.8 Und es ward wiederum Krieg; und David zog aus und stritt wider die Philister und richtete eine große Niederlage unter ihnen an, und sie flohen vor ihm.9 Und ein böser Geist von Jehova kam über Saul; und er saß in seinem Hause, mit seinem Speer in der Hand, und David spielte mit der Hand.10 Und Saul suchte David mit dem Speere an die Wand zu spießen; aber er wich aus vor Saul, und er stieß den Speer in die Wand. Und David floh und entrann in selbiger Nacht.11 Da sandte Saul Boten in das Haus Davids, um ihn zu bewachen und ihn am Morgen zu töten. Aber Michal, sein Weib, tat es David kund und sprach: Wenn du nicht diese Nacht deine Seele rettest, so wirst du morgen getötet werden.12 Und Michal ließ David durchs Fenster hinab; und er ging weg und floh und entrann.13 Und Michal nahm den Teraphim und legte ihn ins Bett und legte das Geflecht von Ziegenhaar zu seinen Häupten und deckte ihn mit dem Tuche zu.14 Und Saul sandte Boten, um David zu holen; und sie sprach: Er ist krank.15 Da sandte Saul die Boten, um David zu sehen, und sprach: Bringet ihn im Bett zu mir herauf, daß ich ihn töte!16 Und die Boten kamen, und siehe, der Teraphim war im Bett, und das Geflecht von Ziegenhaar zu seinen Häupten.17 Da sprach Saul zu Michal: Warum hast du mich also betrogen und hast meinen Feind gehen lassen, daß er entronnen ist? Und Michal sprach zu Saul: Er sagte zu mir: Laß mich gehen! Warum sollte ich dich töten?18 David aber war geflohen und entronnen; und er kam zu Samuel nach Rama und berichtete ihm alles, was Saul ihm getan hatte. Und er und Samuel gingen hin und wohnten zu Najoth.19 Und es wurde Saul berichtet und gesagt: Siehe, David ist in Najoth zu Rama.20 Da sandte Saul Boten, um David zu holen. Als sie aber die Versammlung der Propheten sahen, welche weissagten, und Samuel als Vorsteher über sie dabeistehen, da kam der Geist Gottes über die Boten Sauls, und auch sie weissagten.21 Und man berichtete es Saul, und er sandte andere Boten, und auch sie weissagten; und Saul sandte wiederum dritte Boten, und auch sie weissagten.22 Da ging auch er nach Rama und kam an die große Zisterne, die zu Seku ist; und er fragte und sprach: Wo sind Samuel und David? Und man sprach: Siehe, in Najoth zu Rama.23 Und er ging dorthin, nach Najoth zu Rama; und auch über ihn kam der Geist Gottes, und er ging, immerfort weissagend, bis er in Najoth zu Rama ankam.24 Und auch er zog seine Oberkleider aus, und auch er weissagte vor Samuel, und er lag nackt da jenen ganzen Tag und die ganze Nacht. Daher sagt man: Ist auch Saul unter den Propheten?

Saul Repeatedly Attempts to Take David’s Life

1 Then Saul told his son Jonathan and all his servants to kill David. But Saul’s son Jonathan liked David very much.t2 So Jonathan told David, “My father Saul is tryingt to kill you. So be careful tomorrow morning. Findt a hiding place and stay in seclusion.t

3 I will go out and stand beside my father in the field where you are. I will speak about you to my father. When I find out what the problem is,t I will let you know.”
4 So Jonathan spoke on David’s behalft to his father Saul. He said to him, “The king should not sin against his servant David, for he has not sinned against you. On the contrary, his actions have been very beneficialt for you.

5 He risked his lifet when he struck down the Philistine and the Lord gave all Israel a great victory. When you saw it, you were happy. So why would you sin against innocent blood by putting David to death for no reason?”
6 Saul accepted Jonathan’s advicet and took an oath, “As surely as the Lord lives, he will not be put to death.”

7 Then Jonathan called David and told him all these things. Jonathan brought David to Saul, and he served him as he had done formerly.t
8 Now once again there was war. So David went out to fight the Philistines. He defeated them thoroughlyt and they ran away from him.9 Then an evil spirit from the Lord came upont Saul. He was sitting in his house with his spear in his hand, while David was playing the lyre.t

10 Saul tried to nail David to the wall with the spear, but he escaped from Saul’s presence and the spear drove into the wall.t David escaped quicklyt that night.
11 Saul sent messengers to David’s house to guard it and to kill him in the morning. Then David’s wife Michal told him, “If you do not save yourselft tonight, tomorrow you will be dead!”

12 So Michal lowered David through the window, and he ran away and escaped.
13 Then Michal took a household idolt and put it on the bed. She put a quiltt made of goat’s hair over its headt and then covered the idol with a garment.

14 When Saul sent messengers to arrest David, she said, “He’s sick.”
15 Then Saul sent the messengers back to see David, saying, “Bring him up to me on his bed so I can kill him.”

16 When the messengers came, they found only the idol on the bed and the quilt made of goat’s hair at its head.

17 Saul said to Michal, “Why have you deceived me this way by sending my enemy away? Now he has escaped!” Michal replied to Saul, “He said to me, ‘Help me get away or else I will kill you!’”t
18 Now David had run away and escaped. He went to Samuel in Ramah and told him everything that Saul had done to him. Then he and Samuel went and stayed at Naioth.19 It was reported to Saul saying, “David is at Naioth in Ramah.”20 So Saul sent messengers to capture David. When they saw a company of prophets prophesying with Samuel standing there as their leader, the spirit of God came upon Saul’s messengers, and they also prophesied.21 When it was reported to Saul, he sent more messengers, but they prophesied too. So Saul sent messengers a third time, but they also prophesied.

22 Finally Sault himself went to Ramah. When he arrived at the large cistern that is in Secu, he asked, “Where are Samuel and David?” They said, “At Naioth in Ramah.”
23 So Saul went to Naioth in Ramah. The Spirit of God came upon him as well, and he walked along prophesying until he came to Naioth in Ramah.

24 He even stripped off his clothes and prophesied before Samuel. He lay theret naked all that day and night. (For that reason it is asked, “Is Saul also among the prophets?”)
