1 Samuel 19

Saul vil drepe David

1 Saul talte til sønnen sin Jonatan, og til alle tjenerne sine om å få drept David. Men Jonatan, Sauls sønn, hadde David meget kjær. s2 Og Jonatan fortalte det til David og sa: Saul, min far, søker å drepe deg. Ta deg nå i vare i morgen tidlig og bli i skjul og hold deg gjemt! 3 Så vil jeg gå ut og stå ved siden av min far på marken hvor du er. Og jeg vil tale om deg til min far. Merker jeg noe, så skal jeg si det til deg.

4 Og Jonatan talte vel om David til Saul, sin far, og sa til ham: Kongen skulle ikke synde mot sin tjener David! For han har ikke syndet mot deg, og det han har gjort, har vært til stor nytte for deg. 5 Han satte livet på spill og slo filisteren, og Herren lot hele Israel vinne en stor seier. Du så det selv og gledet deg. Hvorfor vil du da gjøre synd mot uskyldig blod og drepe David uten grunn? s6 Saul hørte på Jonatans ord, og Saul sverget: Så sant Herren lever, han skal ikke drepes. 7 Da kalte Jonatan på David og fortalte ham alt dette. Og Jonatan førte David til Saul, og han var hos ham som før. s

8 Men krigen varte ved. David dro ut og kjempet mot filistrene. Han påførte dem et stort mannefall, og de flyktet for ham. 9 Og en ond ånd fra Herren kom over Saul mens han satt i sitt hus med spydet sitt i hånden, og David spilte på harpen. s10 Da prøvde Saul å støte spydet gjennom David og inn i veggen. Men han vek til side for Saul, så han støtte spydet i veggen. Samme natt flyktet David og slapp bort. s

11 Og Saul sendte bud til Davids hus for å vokte på ham og drepe ham om morgenen. Men Mikal, Davids kone, varslet ham om det og sa: Berger du ikke livet i natt, så blir du drept i morgen. s

12 Mikal firte David ned gjennom vinduet, og han flyktet sin vei og slapp bort. s13 Så tok Mikal husguden og la den i sengen. Hun la et teppe av geitehår ved hodet på den og dekket den til med et klede. 14 Da Saul sendte bud for å hente David, sa hun: Han er syk. 15 Så sendte Saul mennene av sted for å få se David og sa: Bær ham hit til meg i sengen, så han kan bli drept! 16 Men da mennene kom inn, da var det husguden som lå i sengen med geitehårsteppet ved hodet. 17 Da sa Saul til Mikal: Hvorfor har du narret meg slik og latt min fiende slippe bort, så han er kommet unna? Mikal svarte Saul: Han sa til meg: La meg slippe bort, ellers slår jeg deg i hjel. ss

18 Da David var flyktet og hadde sluppet unna, kom han til Samuel i Rama og fortalte alt det Saul hadde gjort mot ham. Han og Samuel tok av sted til Nevajot og bodde der. 19 Og det ble meldt til Saul: David er i Nevajot ved Rama. 20 Da sendte Saul noen menn for å ta David. Da de fikk se flokken av profeter som profeterte, og Samuel som sto foran dem, da kom Guds Ånd over Sauls sendebud, så de også profeterte. s21 Da Saul fikk vite dette, sendte han andre menn av sted, men også de profeterte. Så sendte Saul bud igjen for tredje gang, men også de profeterte. s22 Da gikk han selv til Rama. Da han kom til den store brønnen i Seku, spurte han: Hvor er Samuel og David? De svarte: De er i Nevajot ved Rama. 23 Da han så gikk dit, til Nevajot ved Rama, da kom Guds Ånd også over ham. Han gikk og profeterte hele veien til han kom fram til Nevajot ved Rama. s24 Da tok også han av seg klærne. Også han profeterte mens han sto foran Samuel, og han falt ned og lå der naken* hele den dagen og hele natten. Derfor sier folk: Er også Saul blant profetene? s

Saul Repeatedly Attempts to Take David’s Life

1 Then Saul told his son Jonathan and all his servants to kill David. But Saul’s son Jonathan liked David very much.t2 So Jonathan told David, “My father Saul is tryingt to kill you. So be careful tomorrow morning. Findt a hiding place and stay in seclusion.t

3 I will go out and stand beside my father in the field where you are. I will speak about you to my father. When I find out what the problem is,t I will let you know.”
4 So Jonathan spoke on David’s behalft to his father Saul. He said to him, “The king should not sin against his servant David, for he has not sinned against you. On the contrary, his actions have been very beneficialt for you.

5 He risked his lifet when he struck down the Philistine and the Lord gave all Israel a great victory. When you saw it, you were happy. So why would you sin against innocent blood by putting David to death for no reason?”
6 Saul accepted Jonathan’s advicet and took an oath, “As surely as the Lord lives, he will not be put to death.”

7 Then Jonathan called David and told him all these things. Jonathan brought David to Saul, and he served him as he had done formerly.t
8 Now once again there was war. So David went out to fight the Philistines. He defeated them thoroughlyt and they ran away from him.9 Then an evil spirit from the Lord came upont Saul. He was sitting in his house with his spear in his hand, while David was playing the lyre.t

10 Saul tried to nail David to the wall with the spear, but he escaped from Saul’s presence and the spear drove into the wall.t David escaped quicklyt that night.
11 Saul sent messengers to David’s house to guard it and to kill him in the morning. Then David’s wife Michal told him, “If you do not save yourselft tonight, tomorrow you will be dead!”

12 So Michal lowered David through the window, and he ran away and escaped.
13 Then Michal took a household idolt and put it on the bed. She put a quiltt made of goat’s hair over its headt and then covered the idol with a garment.

14 When Saul sent messengers to arrest David, she said, “He’s sick.”
15 Then Saul sent the messengers back to see David, saying, “Bring him up to me on his bed so I can kill him.”

16 When the messengers came, they found only the idol on the bed and the quilt made of goat’s hair at its head.

17 Saul said to Michal, “Why have you deceived me this way by sending my enemy away? Now he has escaped!” Michal replied to Saul, “He said to me, ‘Help me get away or else I will kill you!’”t
18 Now David had run away and escaped. He went to Samuel in Ramah and told him everything that Saul had done to him. Then he and Samuel went and stayed at Naioth.19 It was reported to Saul saying, “David is at Naioth in Ramah.”20 So Saul sent messengers to capture David. When they saw a company of prophets prophesying with Samuel standing there as their leader, the spirit of God came upon Saul’s messengers, and they also prophesied.21 When it was reported to Saul, he sent more messengers, but they prophesied too. So Saul sent messengers a third time, but they also prophesied.

22 Finally Sault himself went to Ramah. When he arrived at the large cistern that is in Secu, he asked, “Where are Samuel and David?” They said, “At Naioth in Ramah.”
23 So Saul went to Naioth in Ramah. The Spirit of God came upon him as well, and he walked along prophesying until he came to Naioth in Ramah.

24 He even stripped off his clothes and prophesied before Samuel. He lay theret naked all that day and night. (For that reason it is asked, “Is Saul also among the prophets?”)
