Mirate alla purezza.

1 Vorrei aggiungere questo, cari fratelli: voi avete imparato da noi come dovete comportarvi per piacere a Dio.2 E già vi comportate così, perché conoscete i comandamenti che vi abbiamo dato da parte del Signore Gesù stesso. Ora vi preghiamo, anzi vi scongiuriamo, nel nome del Signore Gesù, di migliorare sempre di più.3-4 Perché Dio vuole che siate puri e non abbiate niente a che fare con i peccati del sesso. Ciascuno di voi sappia vivere con la propria moglie in santità e rispetto,5 senza abbandonarsi all’impeto delle passioni, come fanno i pagani, che non conoscono Dio.6 Questa è la volontà di Dio: che nessuno di voi danneggi il proprio fratello, portandogli via la moglie, né con la violenza, né con l’inganno, perché, come vi ho già detto e ridetto, il Signore, punirà chi commette queste cose.7 Perché Dio non ci ha chiamati a vivere nell’immoralità, ma ad una vita santa e pura.8 Perciò, chi disprezza queste norme, non disprezza soltanto dei regolamenti umani, ma Dio stesso che vi ha dato il suo Spirito Santo.9 Per quanto riguarda l’amore fraterno, che ci dovrebbe essere tra la gente di Dio, non c’è bisogno che ve ne parli io, perché Dio stesso v’insegna ad amarvi a vicenda.10 Il vostro amore è già forte verso tutti i fratelli cristiani sparsi per l’intera Macedonia. Nonostante ciò, cari fratelli, vi incoraggio ad amarvi sempre di più.11 La vostra maggiore aspirazione dev’essere quella di vivere una vita tranquilla, badando ai fatti vostri e guadagnando da vivere con il vostro lavoro, come vi ho già raccomandato di fare.12 Così quelli che non sono credenti avranno fiducia e rispetto di voi, e voi non sarete di peso a nessuno.

Che cosa succede a un credente, quando muore?

13 Ma ora, cari fratelli, voglio che sappiate ciò che succede ad un credente quando muore, in modo che, quando capiterà a voi, non siate troppo addolorati, come quelli che non hanno nessuna speranza.14 Siccome crediamo che Gesù Cristo è morto e risorto, dobbiamo anche credere che, quando Gesù tornerà, ricondurrà con lui tutti i credenti che sono morti.15 Questo che vi dico viene direttamente dal Signore: noi che siamo vivi, se ancora saremo in vita quando tornerà il Signore, non andremo ad incontrarlo prima di quelli che sono nella tomba.16 Quel giorno, il Signore stesso, ad un dato segnale, alla voce di un arcangelo e allo squillo della tromba di Dio, scenderà dal cielo, e allora i credenti morti saranno i primi a risorgere per andargli incontro.17 Poi noi, che saremo ancora vivi, verremo presi insieme a loro e portati in alto tra le nuvole per incontrare il Signore. Così rimarremo con lui per sempre.18 Consolatevi, dunque, e incoraggiatevi a vicenda con queste parole.

1 Finally then, brethren, we beseech and exhort you in the Lord Jesus, that, as ye received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, even as ye do walk, --that ye abound more and more.2 For ye know what charge we gave you through the Lord Jesus.3 For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye abstain from fornication;4 that each one of you know how to possess himself of his own vessel in sanctification and honor,5 not in the passion of lust, even as the Gentiles who know not God;6 that no man transgress, and wrong his brother in the matter: because the Lord is an avenger in all these things, as also we forewarned you and testified.7 For God called us not for uncleanness, but in sanctification.8 Therefore he that rejecteth, rejecteth not man, but God, who giveth his Holy Spirit unto you.9 But concerning love of the brethren ye have no need that one write unto you: for ye yourselves are taught of God to love one another;10 for indeed ye do it toward all the brethren that are in all Macedonia. But we exhort you, brethren, that ye abound more and more;11 and that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your hands, even as we charged you;12 that ye may walk becomingly toward them that are without, and may have need of nothing.13 But we would not have you ignorant, brethren, concerning them that fall asleep; that ye sorrow not, even as the rest, who have no hope.14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also that are fallen asleep in Jesus will God bring with him.15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we that are alive, that are left unto the coming of the Lord, shall in no wise precede them that are fallen asleep.16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven, with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first;17 then we that are alive, that are left, shall together with them be caught up in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
