Lev så att ni ärar Gud

1 Kära syskon, låt mig tillägga detta: Ni vet hur man lever till Guds ära, för ni har hört vår undervisning och lever redan på det sättet. Men vi vädjar till er för Herren Jesus skull, att mer och mer leva till Guds ära.2 De regler vi gav er kommer från Herren Jesus själv, det vet ni.3 Och detta är Guds vilja: att ni ska leva helt för honom. Ni ska hålla er borta från all sexuell lössläppthet.4 Var och en måste lära sig att behärska sin egen kropp och respektera och ära den,t

5 så att han inte lever i begär och lidelser, på samma sätt som de människor gör som inte känner Gud.
6 Se till att ni inte bedrar eller utnyttjar någon annan troende på det sexuella området, för Herren Jesus straffar sådana handlingar, det har vi redan klart och tydligt talat om för er.7 Gud har ju inte inbjudit oss till att leva i sexuell omoral, utan till att leva helt för honom.

8 Den som vägrar att leva enligt dessa regler, han är inte olydig mot människor, utan mot Gud som ger er sin heliga Ande.
9 När det gäller att älska varandra som medlemmar av Guds folk, behöver jag inte skriva till er. Gud själv har ju lärt er att älska varandra,10 och er kärlek till alla de troende i hela Makedonien har redan vuxit sig stark. Trots det, kära syskon, ber vi er att älska dem ännu mer.11 Sätt en ära i att leva ett stilla liv, att försörja er själva och sköta ert arbete, precis som vi tidigare har sagt.

12 Då kommer ni att bli respekterade av människor utanför församlingen och blir inte beroende av någon.

Vi ska uppstå från de döda

13 Kära syskon, vi vill också att ni ska veta hur det går med dem som dör, för att ni inte ska bli förlamade av sorg som de människor blir som inte har något hopp.

14 Vi tror att Jesus har dött och uppstått igen, och därför kan vi vara säkra på att Gud också ska föra till sig alla troende som har dött. De ska föras till Gud tillsammans med Jesus när han kommer tillbaka.
15 Vi vill meddela er det som Herren Jesus själv har lärt oss: Vi som fortfarande lever när Herren kommer tillbaka ska inte möta honom före de döda.16 Nej, Herren själv ska komma tillbaka från Gud i himlen, och man ska höra ett kommandorop, ljudet av en ärkeängels röst och en Guds trumpet. Och då ska alla som har dött medan de troget följde Kristus uppstå från de döda först.17 Efter det ska vi, som fortfarande lever och finns kvar på jorden, föras bort bland molnen tillsammans med dem för att möta Herren i luften. Och sedan ska vi för alltid vara med honom.

18 Trösta och uppmuntra nu varandra med dessa ord.

A Life Pleasing to God

1 Finally then, brothers and sisters,t we ask you and urge you in the Lord Jesus, that as you received instruction from us about hows you must live and please God (as you are in fact living)s that you do so more and more.2 For you know what commands we gave you through the Lord Jesus.3 For this is God’s will: that you become holy,t that you keep away from sexual immorality,4 that each of you know how to possess his own bodyt in holiness and honor,5 not in lustful passion like the Gentiles who do not know God.6 In this matter no one should violate the rights of his brother or take advantage of him,t because the Lord is the avenger in all these cases,t as we also told you earlier and warned you solemnly.7 For God did not call us to impurity but in holiness.

8 Consequently the one who rejects this is not rejecting human authorityt but God, who gives his Holy Spirit to you.
9 Now on the topic of brotherly lovet you have no need for anyone to write you, for you yourselves are taught by God to love one another.10 And indeed you are practicing it toward all the brothers and sisterst in all of Macedonia. But we urge you, brothers and sisters, to do so more and more,s11 to aspire to lead a quiet life, to attend to your own business, and to work with your hands, as we commanded you.

12 In this way you will livet a decent life before outsiders and not be in need.t

The Lord Returns for Believers

13 Now we do not want you to be uninformed,t brothers and sisters,t about those who are asleep,t so that you will not grieve like the rest who have no hope.14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, so also we believe thatt God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep as Christians.t15 For we tell you this by the word of the Lord,s that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will surely not go ahead of those who have fallen asleep.16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a shout of command, with the voice of the archangel,t and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.17 Then we who are alive, who are left,s will be suddenly caught upt togethert with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will always be with the Lord.

18 Therefore encourage one another with these words.
