Ce que Dieu veut, c’est votre consécration
1 tAu reste, frères, nous vous le demandons et nous vous y encourageons dans le Seigneur Jésus : vous avez appris de nous comment vous devez vous comporter pour plaire à Dieu ; c’est bien ce que vous faites, mais progressez encore.
2 tVous savez en effet quelles injonctions nous vous avons données par le Seigneur Jésus.
3 tLa volonté de Dieu, c’est votre consécration : abstenez-vous de l’inconduite sexuelle ; 4 tque chacun de vous sache prendre femme dans la consécration et l’honneur, 5 tsans se livrer aux passions du désir, comme le font les gens des nations qui ne connaissent pas Dieu ; 6 tque personne, en cette affaire, ne lèse son frère ni ne lui cause du tort : le Seigneur fait justice de tout cela, nous vous l’avons déjà dit et attesté. 7 tCar ce n’est pas pour l’impureté que Dieu nous a appelés, mais dans la consécration.
8 tAinsi celui qui rejette ces préceptes ne rejette pas un homme, mais Dieu, celui-là même qui vous donne son Esprit saint.
9 tPour ce qui concerne l’affection fraternelle, vous n’avez pas besoin qu’on vous écrive, car vous êtes vous-mêmes instruits par Dieu de façon à vous aimer les uns les autres ; 10 tc’est ainsi que vous agissez aussi envers tous les frères dans l’ensemble de la Macédoine. Mais nous vous encourageons, frères, à progresser encore, 11 tà mettre un point d’honneur à vivre en paix, à vous occuper de vos propres affaires et à travailler de vos mains, comme nous vous en avons donné l’injonction,
12 tafin que vous vous comportiez convenablement envers ceux du dehors et que vous n’ayez besoin de personne.Ceux qui se sont endormis dans la mort
13 tNous ne voulons pas, frères, que vous soyez dans l’ignorance au sujet de ceux qui se sont endormis dans la mort, afin que vous ne vous attristiez pas comme les autres, qui n’ont pas d’espérance. 14 tEn effet, si, comme nous le croyons, Jésus est mort et s’est relevé, alors, par Jésus, Dieu réunira aussi avec lui ceux qui se sont endormis. 15 tVoici en effet ce que nous vous disons – c’est une parole du Seigneur : nous, les vivants qui restons jusqu’à l’avènement du Seigneur, nous ne devancerons en aucun cas ceux qui se sont endormis. 16 tCar le Seigneur lui-même, avec un cri de commandement, avec la voix d’un archange, avec le son de la trompette de Dieu, descendra du ciel, et ceux qui sont morts dans le Christ se relèveront d’abord. 17 tEnsuite, nous, les vivants qui restons, nous serons enlevés ensemble avec eux, dans les nuées, à la rencontre du Seigneur, dans les airs ; et ainsi nous serons toujours avec le Seigneur. 18 tEncouragez-vous donc les uns les autres par ces paroles.
1 Thessalonians 4
1 Finally then, brethren, we beseech and exhort you in the Lord Jesus, that, as ye received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, even as ye do walk, --that ye abound more and more.2 For ye know what charge we gave you through the Lord Jesus.3 For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye abstain from fornication;4 that each one of you know how to possess himself of his own vessel in sanctification and honor,5 not in the passion of lust, even as the Gentiles who know not God;6 that no man transgress, and wrong his brother in the matter: because the Lord is an avenger in all these things, as also we forewarned you and testified.7 For God called us not for uncleanness, but in sanctification.8 Therefore he that rejecteth, rejecteth not man, but God, who giveth his Holy Spirit unto you.9 But concerning love of the brethren ye have no need that one write unto you: for ye yourselves are taught of God to love one another;10 for indeed ye do it toward all the brethren that are in all Macedonia. But we exhort you, brethren, that ye abound more and more;11 and that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your hands, even as we charged you;12 that ye may walk becomingly toward them that are without, and may have need of nothing.13 But we would not have you ignorant, brethren, concerning them that fall asleep; that ye sorrow not, even as the rest, who have no hope.14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also that are fallen asleep in Jesus will God bring with him.15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we that are alive, that are left unto the coming of the Lord, shall in no wise precede them that are fallen asleep.16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven, with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first;17 then we that are alive, that are left, shall together with them be caught up in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
