Varningar och maningar
1 Och nu, bröder, när ni har fått lära er av oss hur ni skall leva för att behaga Gud — och det är ju så ni lever — vill vi i herren Jesu namn vädja till er och mana er att göra ännu mer. 2 Ni vet ju vilka föreskrifter vi gav er från herren Jesus. 3 Detta är Guds vilja: att ni skall bli heliga. Ni skall avhålla er från all otukt. 4 Var och en skall lära sig att hålla sin kropp i helgd och ära, 5 inte utlämna den åt lidelser och begär som hedningarna, som inte känner Gud. 6 Ingen får kränka och utnyttja sin broder i det som det här gäller. Herren straffar allt sådant, det har vi redan klart och tydligt låtit er veta. 7 Gud har inte kallat oss till orenhet utan till helighet.
8 Om någon sätter sig över detta är det alltså inte en människa han sätter sig över utan Gud, honom som ger er sin heliga ande.
9 Om broderskärleken behöver vi inte skriva till er; Gud har själv lärt er att älska varandra, 10 och kärlek visar ni ju också alla bröderna i hela Makedonien. Men vi manar er, bröder, att göra ännu mer. 11 Sätt en ära i att leva lugnt och stilla, sköta ert eget och arbeta med era händer så som vi har föreskrivit er.
12 Lever ni på det sättet vinner ni de utomståendes aktning och blir inte beroende av någon.Herrens dag och de dödas uppståndelse
13 Bröder, vi vill att ni skall veta hur det går med dem som avlider, så att ni inte behöver sörja som de andra, de som inte har något hopp.
14 Om Jesus har dött och uppstått, vilket vi tror, då skall Gud också genom Jesus föra till sig de avlidna tillsammans med honom. 15 Med stöd av vad Herren lärt oss säger vi er detta: vi som är kvar här i livet då Herren kommer skall inte gå före de avlidna. 16 Ty när Herren själv stiger ner från himlen och hans befallning ljuder genom ärkeängelns röst och Guds basun, då skall de som är döda i Kristus uppstå först, 17 och därefter skall vi som är kvar i livet föras bort bland molnen tillsammans med dem för att möta Herren i rymden. Och sedan skall vi alltid vara hos honom. 18 Ge nu varandra tröst med dessa ord.

A Life That Pleases God
1 Finally, my dear friends, since you belong to the Lord Jesus, we beg and urge you to live as we taught you. Then you will please God. You are already living that way, but try even harder. 2 Remember the instructions we gave you as followers of the Lord Jesus. 3 God wants you to be holy, so don't be immoral in matters of sex. 4 Respect and honor your wife.t 5 Don't be a slave of your desires or live like people who don't know God. 6 You must not cheat any of the Lord's followers in matters of sex.t Remember, we warned you that he punishes everyone who does such things. 7 God didn't choose you to be filthy, but to be pure.
8 So if you don't obey these rules, you are not really disobeying us. Instead, you are disobeying God, who gives you his Holy Spirit.
9 We don't have to write you about the need to love each other. God has taught you to do this, 10 and you already have shown your love for all his people in Macedonia. But, my dear friends, we ask you to do even more. 11 Try your best to live quietly, to mind your own business, and to work hard, just as we taught you to do.
12 t Then you will be respected by people who are not followers of the Lord, and you won't have to depend on anyone.The Lord's Coming
13 My friends, we want you to understand how it will be for those followers who have already died. Then you won't grieve over them and be like people who don't have any hope. 14 We believe Jesus died and was raised to life. We also believe that when God brings Jesus back again, he will bring with him all who had faith in Jesus before they died.
15 t t Our Lord Jesus told us that when he comes, we won't go up to meet him ahead of his followers who have already died.
16 t With a loud command and with the shout of the chief angel and a blast of God's trumpet, the Lord will return from heaven. Then those who had faith in Christ before they died will be raised to life. 17 Next, all of us who are still alive will be taken up into the clouds together with them to meet the Lord in the sky. From that time on we will all be with the Lord forever. 18 Encourage each other with these words.
