1 En cuanto a las fechas y los tiempos, hermanos, no es necesario que yo os escriba. 2 Sabéis muy bien que el día del regreso del Señor llegará cuando menos se espere, como llega un ladrón en la noche.t 3 Cuando la gente diga “Todo está en paz y tranquilo”, vendrá de repente sobre ellos la destrucción, como vienen los dolores de partot a una mujer encinta, y no podrán escapar. 4 Pero vosotros, hermanos, no estáis en la oscuridad para que el día del regreso del Señor os sorprenda como un ladrón. 5 Todos vosotros sois de la luz y del día: no somos de la noche ni de la oscuridad.t 6 Por eso, no debemos dormir como los otros, sino mantenernos despiertos y en nuestro sano juicio.t 7 Los que duermen, duermen de noche,t y los que se emborrachan, se emborrachan de noche; 8 pero nosotros, que somos del día, debemos estar siempre en nuestro sano juicio. Debemos protegernos,t como con una coraza,t con la fe y el amor; y cubrirnos, como con un casco, con la esperanza de la salvación.t 9 Porque Dios no nos destinó a recibir el castigo,t sino a alcanzar la salvación por medio de nuestro Señor Jesucristo. 10 Jesucristo murió por nosotros, para que, tanto si vivimos como si morimos,t vivamos juntamente con él.
11 Por eso, animaos y fortaleceos unos a otros,t como ya lo estáis haciendo.La conducta cristiana
12 Hermanos, os rogamos que respetéis a quienes trabajan entre vosotros y os dirigen y aconsejan en el Señor;
13 debéis estimarlos y amarlos mucho por el trabajo que llevan a cabo. Vivid en paz unos con otros.
14 También os encargamos, hermanos, que reprendáis a los que no quieren trabajar,t que animéis a los desanimados, que ayudéis a los débiles y que tengáis paciencia con todos.
15 Mirad que nadie pague mal por mal.t Al contrario, procurad hacer siempre el bien, lo mismo entre vosotros que a todos los demás.
16 Estad siempre contentos.t 17 Orad en todo momento.
18 Dad gracias a Dios por todo, porque esto es lo que él quiere de vosotros como creyentes en Cristo Jesús.t
19 No apaguéis el fuego del Espíritu.t 20 No despreciéis el don de profecía.t 21 Sometedlo todo a prueba y retened lo bueno.
22 Apartaos de toda clase de mal.
23 Que Dios mismo, el Dios de paz, os haga perfectamente santos y os conserve todo vuestro ser, espíritu, alma y cuerpo,t sin defecto alguno, para el regreso de nuestro Señor Jesucristo.
24 El que os ha llamado es fiel,t y lo cumplirá.Despedida (5.25-28)
25 Hermanos, orad también por nosotros.
26 Saludad a todos los hermanos con un beso santo.t
27 Os encargo, por la autoridad del Señor, que leáis esta carta a todos los hermanos.
28 Que nuestro Señor Jesucristo derrame su gracia sobre vosotros.
1 Thessalonians 5
The Day of the Lord
1 Now on the topic of times and seasons,t brothers and sisters,t you have no need for anything to be written to you.2 For you know quite well that the day of the Lords will come in the same way as a thief in the night.s3 Now whens they are saying, “There is peace and security,”t then sudden destruction comes on them, like labor painst on a pregnant woman, and they will surely not escape.4 But you, brothers and sisters,t are not in the darkness for the day to overtake you like a thief would.5 For you all are sons of the light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of the darkness.6 So then we must not sleep as the rest, but must stay alert and sober.7 For those who sleep, sleep at night and those who get drunk are drunk at night.8 But since we are of the day, we must stay sober by putting on the breastplates of faith and love and as a helmet our hope for salvation.t9 For God did not destine us for wraths but for gaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.10 He diedt for us so that whether we are alert or asleeps we will come to life together with him.
11 Therefore encourage one another and build up each other, just as you are in fact doing.
Final Instructions
12 Now we ask you, brothers and sisters,t to acknowledge those who labor among you and preside over you in the Lord and admonish you,13 and to esteem them most highly in love because of their work. Be at peace among yourselves.14 And we urge you, brothers and sisters,t admonish the undisciplined, comfort the discouraged, help the weak, be patient toward all.15 See that no one pays back evil for evil to anyone, but always pursue what is good for one another and for all.16 Always rejoice,17 constantly pray,18 in everything give thanks. For this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.19 Do not extinguish the Spirit.20 Do not treat prophecies with contempt.21 But examine all things; hold fast to what is good.
22 Stay away from every form of evil.
Conclusion
23 Now may the God of peace himself make you completely holy and may your spirit and soul and body be kept entirely blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.24 He who calls you is trustworthy, and he will in fact do this.t25 Brothers and sisters,t pray for us too.26 Greet all the brothers and sisterst with a holy kiss.27 I call on you solemnly in the Lordt to have this letter read to all the brothers and sisters.st
28 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.s
