テサロニケ人への第一の手紙 5

五

1 もちろん、それらがいつ起こるかという質問には、愛する皆さん、私は何も答える必要がありません。　2 その時を言い当てることができる人などいないことは、よくご存じのはずです。　主の日は、夜中にこっそり忍び込むどろぼうのように、思いがけない時に来ます。3 人々が、「万事順調で、何もかも平穏無事だ......」と、たかをくくっている時、突然、災いが襲いかかるのです。　それはちょうど、出産の時、母親に陣痛が襲うのに似ています。　その災いから逃れうる人はいません。　身を隠す場所など、どこにもないからです。
4 しかし、愛する皆さん。　あなたがたは、このことについて皆目わからない、暗やみにいるわけではありません。　ですから、主の日が来ても、強盗に襲われた時のように、あわてふためくことはないはずです。　5 あなたがたはみな、光の子供、真昼の子供であって、暗やみや夜に属する者ではないからです。　6 ですから、ほかの人たちのように眠りこけないで、目を覚まして見張っていなさい。　主が再び来られる日に備えて、慎重に行動しなさい。　7 夜、人々は眠り、また酔いつぶれます。　8 しかし、私たちは、昼の世界に生きる者らしく、信仰と愛のよろいで身を守り、すばらしい救いの望みのかぶとをかぶり、慎しみ深くふるまいましょう。
9 なぜなら、神様は、怒りをぶちまけるために私たちをお選びになったのではなく、主イエス・キリストによって救うために、選んでくださったからです。　10 主イエス・キリストの死は、主が再び来られる時に、私たちを、その生死の状態にかかわりなく、永遠に主と共に生かすためでした。　11 そういうわけですから、すでに実行していることでしょうが、互いに励まし合い、助け合いなさい。
12 愛する皆さん。　あなたがたの間で一生懸命働き、まちがいがあれば親身になって忠告してくれる、教会の役員たちを尊敬しなさい。　13 その人たちは、何とかしてあなたがたの手助けをしようと、真剣なのですから、彼らを高く評価して、心から愛しなさい。　くれぐれも言っておきますが、争いなど起こさないようにしてください。
14 愛する皆さん。　なまけ者や手に負えない乱暴者は、きびしく注意しなさい。　臆病な人を励まし、弱い人を思いやりなさい。　そして、だれに対しても忍耐しなさい。　15 悪をもって悪に仕返ししないように、気をつけなさい。　かえって、お互いに、またどんな人にも、常に善意を示すよう心がけなさい。　16 いつも喜びにあふれていなさい。　17 いつも祈りに励みなさい。　18 どんなことがあっても、感謝を忘れないように。　これこそ、神様が、キリスト・イエスに属するあなたがたに、望んでおられることだからです。
19 聖霊様の恵みを無にしてはいけません。　20 預言する者を軽べつしてはいけません。　21 万事よく調べて、それがほんとうに良いものかどうかを確かめなさい。　そして、ほんとうに良いものであれば、受け入れなさい。　22 あらゆる種類の悪から遠ざかりなさい。　23 どうか、平和の神様が、あなたがたを完全にきよめてくださいますように。　霊とたましいと体とが、いつも健全で、主イエス・キリストが再び来られる時に、少しも非難されない者としてくださいますように。　24 あなたがたを招いて自分の子供としてくださった神様は、約束どおり、きっとそうしてくださいます。　25 愛する皆さん。　私たちのために祈ってください。　26 全員に、心からのあいさつを送ります。27 この手紙を、すべてのクリスチャンが読むようにしてください。それは主の命令です。　28 どうか、主イエス・キリストから、あふれるほどの祝福が、あなたがたに注がれますように。

1 Thessalonians 5

1 But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that aught be written unto you.2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.3 When they are saying, Peace and safety, then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall in no wise escape.4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief:5 for ye are all sons of light, and sons of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness;6 so then let us not sleep, as do the rest, but let us watch and be sober.7 For they that sleep sleep in the night: and they that are drunken are drunken in the night.8 But let us, since we are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for a helmet, the hope of salvation.9 For God appointed us not into wrath, but unto the obtaining of salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,10 who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.11 Wherefore exhort one another, and build each other up, even as also ye do.12 But we beseech you, brethren, to know them that labor among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you;13 and to esteem them exceeding highly in love for their work’s sake. Be at peace among yourselves.14 And we exhort you, brethren, admonish the disorderly, encourage the fainthearted, support the weak, be longsuffering toward all.15 See that none render unto any one evil for evil; but always follow after that which is good, one toward another, and toward all.16 Rejoice always;17 pray without ceasing;18 in everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus to you-ward.19 Quench not the Spirit;20 despise not prophesyings;21 prove all things; hold fast that which is good;22 abstain from every form of evil.23 And the God of peace himself sanctify you wholly; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved entire, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.24 Faithful is he that calleth you, who will also do it.25 Brethren, pray for us.26 Salute all the brethren with a holy kiss.27 I adjure you by the Lord that this epistle be read unto all the brethren.28 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
