1  Ahora bien, amados hermanos, con respecto a cómo y cuándo sucederá todo esto, en realidad no es necesario que les escribamos. 2 Pues ustedes saben muy bien que el día del regreso del Señor llegará inesperadamente, como un ladrón en la noche. 3 Cuando la gente esté diciendo: «Todo está tranquilo y seguro», entonces le caerá encima la catástrofe tan repentinamente como le vienen los dolores de parto a una mujer embarazada; y no habrá escapatoria posible.

4 Pero ustedes, amados hermanos, no están a oscuras acerca de estos temas, y no serán sorprendidos cuando el día del Señor venga como un ladrón.t 5 Pues todos ustedes son hijos de la luz y del día; no pertenecemos a la oscuridad y a la noche. 6 Así que manténganse en guardia, no dormidos como los demás. Estén alerta y lúcidos. 7 Es en la noche cuando la gente duerme y los bebedores se emborrachan; 8 pero los que vivimos en la luz estemos lúcidos, protegidos por la armadura de la fe y el amor, y usemos, por casco, la confianza de nuestra salvación.

9 Pues Dios escogió salvarnos por medio de nuestro Señor Jesucristo y no derramar su enojo sobre nosotros. 10 Cristo murió por nosotros para que —estemos vivos o muertos cuando regrese— podamos vivir con él para siempre. 11 Así que aliéntense y edifíquense unos a otros, tal como ya lo hacen.

Consejos finales de Pablo

12 Amados hermanos, honren a sus líderes en la obra del Señor. Ellos trabajan arduamente entre ustedes y les dan orientación espiritual. 13 Ténganles mucho respeto y de todo corazón demuéstrenles amor por la obra que realizan. Y vivan en paz unos con otros.

14 Hermanos, les rogamos que amonesten a los perezosos. Alienten a los tímidos. Cuiden con ternura a los débiles. Sean pacientes con todos.

15 Asegúrense de que ninguno pague mal por mal, más bien siempre traten de hacer el bien entre ustedes y a todos los demás.

16 Estén siempre alegres. 17 Nunca dejen de orar. 18 Sean agradecidos en toda circunstancia, pues esta es la voluntad de Dios para ustedes, los que pertenecen a Cristo Jesús.

19 No apaguen al Espíritu Santo. 20 No se burlen de las profecías, 21 sino pongan a prueba todo lo que se dice. Retengan lo que es bueno. 22 Aléjense de toda clase de mal.

23 Ahora, que el Dios de paz los haga santos en todos los aspectos, y que todo su espíritu, alma y cuerpo se mantenga sin culpa hasta que nuestro Señor Jesucristo vuelva. 24 Dios hará que esto suceda, porque aquél que los llama es fiel.

25 Amados hermanos, oren por nosotros.

26 Saluden a todos los hermanos con amor cristiano.t

27 Les ordeno, en el nombre del Señor, que les lean esta carta a todos los demás hermanos.

28 Que la gracia de nuestro Señor Jesucristo sea con ustedes.

1 THESSALONIANS 5

1 I don't need to write you about the time or date when all this will happen. 2 t You surely know that the Lord's returnt will be as a thief coming at night.

3 People will think they are safe and secure. But destruction will suddenly strike them like the pains of a woman about to give birth. And they won't escape.
4 My dear friends, you don't live in darkness, and so that day won't surprise you like a thief. 5 You belong to the light and live in the day. We don't live in the night or belong to the dark. 6 Others may sleep, but we should stay awake and be alert. 7 People sleep during the night, and some even get drunk.

8 t But we belong to the day. So we must stay sober and let our faith and love be like a suit of armor. Our firm hope that we will be saved is our helmet.
9 God doesn't intend to punish us, but wants us to be saved by our Lord Jesus Christ. 10 Christ died for us, so we could live with him, whether we are alive or dead when he comes.

11 This is why you must encourage and help each other, just as you are already doing.

Final Instructions //and Greetings

15 Don't be hateful to people, just because they are hateful to you. Rather, be good to each other and to everyone else.
16 Always be joyful 17 and never stop praying.

18 Whatever happens, keep thanking God because of Jesus Christ. This is what God wants you to do.
19 Don't turn away God's Spirit 20 or ignore prophecies. 21 Put everything to the test. Accept what is good

22 and don't have anything to do with evil.
23 I pray that God, who gives peace, will make you completely holy. And may your spirit, soul, and body be kept healthy and faultless until our Lord Jesus Christ returns.

24 The one who chose you can be trusted, and he will do this.

25 Friends, please pray for us.
