1 Timoteus 1

1 Pavel, apoštol Krista Ježíše z pověření Boha, našeho Spasitele, a Krista Ježíše, naší naděje,

2 Timoteovi, vlastnímu synu ve víře:
Milost, milosrdenství a pokoj od Boha Otce a od Krista Ježíše, našeho Pána.

Cílem přikázání je láska

3 Jak jsem tě už prosil cestou do Makedonie, zůstaň v Efesu a zakaž jistým lidem šířit odlišná učení. 4 Ať už se přestanou zabývat bájemi a nekonečnými rodokmeny, které vedou jen k dohadování namísto naplňování Božího záměru ve víře. 5 Cílem přikázání je přece láska z čistého srdce, z dobrého svědomí a z upřímné víry. 6 Někteří ale z této cesty zbloudili a uchýlili se k prázdnému tlachání. 7 Chtěli by být učiteli Zákona, přitom ale vůbec nechápou, co říkají ani na čem trvají.

8 Víme, že Zákon je dobrý, pokud se dobře užívá. 9 Je třeba mít na paměti, že Zákon není určen pro spravedlivého. Vztahuje se na zločince a buřiče, na bezbožné a hříšné, na bezvěrce, na ty, kterým není nic svaté, na otcovrahy, matkovrahy a vrahy vůbec, 10 na smilníky, zvrhlíky, obchodníky s lidmi, na lháře, křivopřísežníky a na všechno ostatní, co je v rozporu se zdravým učením 11 podle slavného evangelia požehnaného Boha, které mi bylo svěřeno.

Přišel spasit hříšníky

12 Jsem vděčný Tomu, který mě zmocnil – Kristu Ježíši, našemu Pánu – že mě poctil tou výsadou, abych mu mohl sloužit. 13 Předtím jsem byl rouhač, pronásledovatel a tyran, ale Bůh se nade mnou smiloval, neboť jsem ve své nevíře nevěděl, co dělám. 14 Náš Pán mě pak ve své nesmírné milosti zahrnul vírou a láskou, která je v Kristu Ježíši.

15 Je to jistá pravda – kéž by ji každý přijal: Kristus Ježíš přišel na svět, aby spasil hříšníky. Já jsem z nich nejhorší, 16 ale proto se nade mnou Bůh smiloval, aby Kristus Ježíš na mně nejhorším ukázal svou bezmeznou trpělivost pro příklad těm, kdo v něho mají uvěřit k věčnému životu. 17 Králi věků, nesmrtelnému, neviditelnému, jedinému Bohu buď čest a sláva na věky věků! Amen.

18 Timoteji, synu, dávám ti tyto pokyny v souladu s proroctvími, jež o tobě zazněla. S jejich pomocí bojuj dobrý boj; 19 uchovej si víru a dobré svědomí, které někteří zahodili, a proto ztroskotali ve víře. 20 Mezi nimi je i Hymenaios a Alexandr, které jsem vydal satanovi, aby se odnaučili rouhat.

1 Timothy 1

Salutation

1 From Paul,t an apostle of Christ Jesus by the command of God our Saviors and of Christ Jesus our hope,

2 to Timothy, my genuine child in the faith. Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord!

Timothy’s Task in Ephesus

3 As I urged you when I was leaving for Macedonia, stay on in Ephesuss to instructt certain people not to spread false teachings,t4 nor to occupy themselves with myths and interminable genealogies.s Such things promote useless speculations rather than God’s redemptive plansts that operates by faith.5 But the aim of our instructiont is love that comes from a pure heart, a good conscience, and a sincere faith.t6 Some have strayed from these and turned away to empty discussion.

7 They want to be teachers of the law, but they do not understand what they are saying or the things they insist on so confidently.t
8 But we know that the law is good if someone uses it legitimately,9 realizing that laws is not intended for a righteous person, but for lawless and rebellious people, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers,10 sexually immoral people, practicing homosexuals,t kidnappers, liars, perjurers – in fact, for any who live contrary to sound teaching.

11 Thist accords with the glorious gospel of the blessed Godt that was entrusted to me.t
12 I am grateful to the one who has strengthened me, Christ Jesus our Lord, because he considered me faithful in putting me into ministry,13 even though I was formerly a blasphemer and a persecutor, and an arrogantt man. But I was treated with mercy because I acted ignorantly in unbelief,14 and our Lord’s grace was abundant, bringing faith and love in Christ Jesus.t15 This sayingt is trustworthy and deserves full acceptance: “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners” – and I am the worst of them!t16 But here is why I was treated with mercy: so thatt in me as the worst,t Christ Jesus could demonstrate his utmost patience, as an example for those who are going to believe in him for eternal life.

17 Now to the eternal king,t immortal, invisible, the onlys God, be honor and glory forever and ever!t Amen.
18 I put this charges before you, Timothy my child, in keeping with the prophecies once spoken about you,s in order that with such encouragementt you may fight the good fight.19 To do thist you must hold firmly to faith and a good conscience, which some have rejected and so have suffered shipwreck in regard to the faith.

20 Among these are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I handed over to Satans to be taught not to blaspheme.
