1 Timoteus 1

1 Pavel, apoštol Ježíše Krista, podle zřízení Boha spasitele našeho a pána Jezukrista, naděje naší,2 Timoteovi, vlastnímu synu u víře: Milost, milosrdenství a pokoj od Boha Otce našeho a od Krista Ježíše Pána našeho.

3 Jakož jsem prosil tebe, abys pozůstal v Efezu, když jsem šel do Macedonie, viziž, abys přikázal některým jiného učení neučiti,4 Ani oblibovati básní a vypravování rodů, čemuž konce není, odkudž jen hádky pocházejí, více nežli vzdělání Boží, kteréž jest u víře,5 Ješto konec přikázání jest láska z srdce čistého a z svědomí dobrého a z víry neošemetné.6 Od čehož někteří jako od cíle pobloudivše, uchýlili se k marnomluvnosti,7 Chtíce býti učitelé Zákona, a nerozumějíce, ani co mluví, ani čeho zastávají.8 Víme pak, že dobrý jest Zákon, když by ho kdo náležitě užíval,9 Toto znaje, že spravedlivému není uložen Zákon, ale nepravým a nepoddaným, bezbožným a hříšníkům, nešlechetným a nečistým, mordéřům otců svých a matek, vražedlníkům,10 Smilníkům, samcoložníkům, těm, kteříž lidi kradou, lhářům, křivým přísežníkům, a jest-li co jiného, ješto by bylo naodpor zdravému učení,11 Jenž jest podle slavného evangelium blahoslaveného Boha, kteréžto mně svěřeno jest.12 Protož děkuji tomu, kterýž mne zmocnil, totiž Kristu Ježíši Pánu našemu, že mne za tak věrného soudil, aby mne v službě té postavil,13 Ješto jsem prve byl ruhač, a protivník, a ukrutník. Ale milosrdenství jsem došel; neb jsem to z neznámosti činil v nevěře.14 Rozhojnila se pak náramně milost Pána našeho, s věrou a s milováním, kteréž jest v Kristu Ježíši.15 Věrnáť jest tato řeč a všelijak oblíbení hodná, že Kristus Ježíš přišel na svět, aby hříšné spasil, z nichžto já první jsem.16 Ale proto milosrdenství jsem došel, aby na mně prvním dokázal Ježíš Kristus všeliké dobrotivosti, ku příkladu těm, kteříž mají uvěřiti v něho k životu věčnému.17 Protož Králi věků nesmrtelnému, neviditelnému, samému moudrému Bohu budiž čest i sláva na věky věků. Amen.18 Totoť přikázání poroučím tobě, synu Timotee, totiž abys podle předešlých o tobě proroctví bojoval v tom dobrý boj,19 Maje víru a dobré svědomí, kteréžto někteří potrativše, zhynuli u víře.20 Z nichžto jest Hymeneus a Alexander, kteréž jsem vydal satanu, aby trestáni jsouce, učili se nerouhati.

1 Timothy 1

Salutation

1 From Paul,t an apostle of Christ Jesus by the command of God our Saviors and of Christ Jesus our hope,

2 to Timothy, my genuine child in the faith. Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord!

Timothy’s Task in Ephesus

3 As I urged you when I was leaving for Macedonia, stay on in Ephesuss to instructt certain people not to spread false teachings,t4 nor to occupy themselves with myths and interminable genealogies.s Such things promote useless speculations rather than God’s redemptive plansts that operates by faith.5 But the aim of our instructiont is love that comes from a pure heart, a good conscience, and a sincere faith.t6 Some have strayed from these and turned away to empty discussion.

7 They want to be teachers of the law, but they do not understand what they are saying or the things they insist on so confidently.t
8 But we know that the law is good if someone uses it legitimately,9 realizing that laws is not intended for a righteous person, but for lawless and rebellious people, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers,10 sexually immoral people, practicing homosexuals,t kidnappers, liars, perjurers – in fact, for any who live contrary to sound teaching.

11 Thist accords with the glorious gospel of the blessed Godt that was entrusted to me.t
12 I am grateful to the one who has strengthened me, Christ Jesus our Lord, because he considered me faithful in putting me into ministry,13 even though I was formerly a blasphemer and a persecutor, and an arrogantt man. But I was treated with mercy because I acted ignorantly in unbelief,14 and our Lord’s grace was abundant, bringing faith and love in Christ Jesus.t15 This sayingt is trustworthy and deserves full acceptance: “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners” – and I am the worst of them!t16 But here is why I was treated with mercy: so thatt in me as the worst,t Christ Jesus could demonstrate his utmost patience, as an example for those who are going to believe in him for eternal life.

17 Now to the eternal king,t immortal, invisible, the onlys God, be honor and glory forever and ever!t Amen.
18 I put this charges before you, Timothy my child, in keeping with the prophecies once spoken about you,s in order that with such encouragementt you may fight the good fight.19 To do thist you must hold firmly to faith and a good conscience, which some have rejected and so have suffered shipwreck in regard to the faith.

20 Among these are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I handed over to Satans to be taught not to blaspheme.
