1. Timotheus 1
1 Paulus, ein Apostel Jesu Christi nach dem Befehl Gottes, unsers Heilandes, und des HERRN Jesu Christi, der unsre Hoffnung ist, 2 dem Timotheus, meinem rechtschaffenen Sohn im Glauben: Gnade, Barmherzigkeit, Friede von Gott, unserm Vater, und unserm HERRN Jesus Christus!
3 Wie ich dich ermahnt habe, daß du zu Ephesus bliebest, da ich nach Mazedonien zog, und gebötest etlichen, daß sie nicht anders lehrten, 4 und nicht acht hätten auf die Fabeln und Geschlechtsregister, die kein Ende haben und Fragen aufbringen mehr denn Besserung zu Gott im Glauben; 5 denn die Hauptsumme des Gebotes ist Liebe von reinem Herzen und von gutem Gewissen und von ungefärbtem Glauben; 6 wovon etliche sind abgeirrt und haben sich umgewandt zu unnützem Geschwätz, 7 wollen der Schrift Meister sein, und verstehen nicht, was sie sagen oder was sie setzen. 8 Wir wissen aber, daß das Gesetz gut ist, so es jemand recht braucht 9 und weiß solches, daß dem Gerechten kein Gesetz gegeben ist, sondern den Ungerechten und Ungehorsamen, den Gottlosen und Sündern, den Unheiligen und Ungeistlichen, den Vatermördern und Muttermördern, den Totschlägern 10 den Hurern, den Knabenschändern, den Menschendieben, den Lügnern, den Meineidigen und so etwas mehr der heilsamen Lehre zuwider ist, 11 nach dem herrlichen Evangelium des seligen Gottes, welches mir anvertrauet ist. 12 Ich danke unserm HERR Christus Jesus, der mich stark gemacht und treu geachtet hat und gesetzt in das Amt, 13 der ich zuvor war ein Lästerer und ein Verfolger und ein Schmäher; aber mir ist Barmherzigkeit widerfahren, denn ich habe es unwissend getan im Unglauben. 14 Es ist aber desto reicher gewesen die Gnade unsers HERRN samt dem Glauben und der Liebe, die in Christo Jesu ist. 15 Das ist gewißlich wahr und ein teuer wertes Wort, daß Christus Jesus gekommen ist in die Welt, die Sünder selig zu machen, unter welchen ich der vornehmste bin. 16 Aber darum ist mir Barmherzigkeit widerfahren, auf daß an mir vornehmlich Jesus Christus erzeigte alle Geduld, zum Vorbild denen, die an ihn glauben sollten zum ewigen Leben. 17 Aber Gott, dem ewigen König, dem Unvergänglichen und Unsichtbaren und allein Weisen, sei Ehre und Preis in Ewigkeit! Amen. 18 Dies Gebot befehle ich dir, mein Sohn Timotheus, nach den vorherigen Weissagungen über dich, daß du in ihnen eine gute Ritterschaft übest 19 und habest den Glauben und gutes Gewissen, welches etliche von sich gestoßen und am Glauben Schiffbruch erlitten haben; 20 unter welchen ist Hymenäus und Alexander, welche ich habe dem Satan übergeben, daß sie gezüchtigt werden, nicht mehr zu lästern.

Salutation
1 From Paul,t an apostle of Christ Jesus by the command of God our Saviors and of Christ Jesus our hope,
2 to Timothy, my genuine child in the faith. Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord!
Timothy’s Task in Ephesus
3 As I urged you when I was leaving for Macedonia, stay on in Ephesuss to instructt certain people not to spread false teachings,t4 nor to occupy themselves with myths and interminable genealogies.s Such things promote useless speculations rather than God’s redemptive plansts that operates by faith.5 But the aim of our instructiont is love that comes from a pure heart, a good conscience, and a sincere faith.t6 Some have strayed from these and turned away to empty discussion.
7 They want to be teachers of the law, but they do not understand what they are saying or the things they insist on so confidently.t
8 But we know that the law is good if someone uses it legitimately,9 realizing that laws is not intended for a righteous person, but for lawless and rebellious people, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers,10 sexually immoral people, practicing homosexuals,t kidnappers, liars, perjurers – in fact, for any who live contrary to sound teaching.
11 Thist accords with the glorious gospel of the blessed Godt that was entrusted to me.t
12 I am grateful to the one who has strengthened me, Christ Jesus our Lord, because he considered me faithful in putting me into ministry,13 even though I was formerly a blasphemer and a persecutor, and an arrogantt man. But I was treated with mercy because I acted ignorantly in unbelief,14 and our Lord’s grace was abundant, bringing faith and love in Christ Jesus.t15 This sayingt is trustworthy and deserves full acceptance: “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners” – and I am the worst of them!t16 But here is why I was treated with mercy: so thatt in me as the worst,t Christ Jesus could demonstrate his utmost patience, as an example for those who are going to believe in him for eternal life.
17 Now to the eternal king,t immortal, invisible, the onlys God, be honor and glory forever and ever!t Amen.
18 I put this charges before you, Timothy my child, in keeping with the prophecies once spoken about you,s in order that with such encouragementt you may fight the good fight.19 To do thist you must hold firmly to faith and a good conscience, which some have rejected and so have suffered shipwreck in regard to the faith.
20 Among these are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I handed over to Satans to be taught not to blaspheme.
