テモテヘの第一の手紙 1

一

1 私たちの救い主である神様と、唯一の希望である主イエス・キリストから遣わされた、イエス・キリストの宣教者パウロから、　2 テモテへ。
あなたは、信仰の面から言えば、私の息子みたいなものです。　どうか、父なる神と主イエス・キリストの、恵みとあわれみによって、あなたの心と思いとが、豊かな平安で満たされますように。
3-4 私がマケドニヤに出発する際、指示しておいたように、あなたは引き続き、エペソの教会にとどまり、まちがった教えを言い広めている者の口を封じてください。　彼らの作り話や伝説、また、くだらない系図論争に、とどめを刺しなさい。　このような教えは、信仰によって救われるという神様の計画を、人々が受け入れるのを妨げるばかりか、かえって、さまざまの疑問と議論を巻き起こすもとになります。　5 私がひたすら願い求めるのは、すべてのクリスチャンが純粋な愛の心になり、その思いがきよめられ、信仰が強められることです。
6 しかし、まちがった教えを広める教師たちは、この目標を見失い、議論やくだらない話で時間をつぶしています。　7 彼らは、モーセのおきての教師としての名声を得たがるのですが、そのおきての本質は、少しもわかっていないのです。　8 おきては、神様の意志にかなって用いられるなら、ほんとうに良いものです。　9 しかし、神様に救われた私たちのためのものではありません。　それは、神様を憎み、反抗心をいだき、罰あたりなことばを吐き、父母に逆らい、人殺しをする罪人のためにあるのです。　10-11 おきては、不道徳で不潔な者たち、すなわち、同性愛にふける者、子供を誘拐する者、うそをつく者、そのほか、祝福を約束する神様の良い知らせにそむく者の罪を、はっきり指摘するためにあるのです。　私は、この良い知らせを伝える使者として任命されました。
12 私は、主キリスト・イエスに、どう感謝したらよいかわかりません。　主は私を使者の一人に選び、忠実に奉仕する者となる力を下さいました。　13 以前の私は、キリスト様の名をあざけり、主を信じる者たちを追い回し、あの手この手で迫害しました。　しかし主は、そんな私さえ、あわれんでくださったのです。　その時はまだ、キリスト様を知らず、自分のしていることの恐ろしさもわからなかったからです。　14 主は、なんと恵み深いお方でしょう。　どのように主に信頼すべきか、どうしたらキリスト・イエスの愛に満たされるかを、教えてくださったのです。
15 「キリスト・イエスは、罪人を救うために、この世に来てくださった」ということばは真実です。　このことをだれもが知ってくれるようにと、心から願っています。　私は、その罪人の中でも首領格の人間です。　16 それにもかかわらず、神様は私をあわれんでくださいました。　キリスト・イエスは、どうにも手がつけられない罪人に対してさえ、自らの忍耐深さを教えようと、私みたいな者を選ばれたのです。　それによって、だれにも永遠のいのちを持つ希望が与えられるのです。　17 どうか、永遠の王であり、決して死ぬことのない、目には見えない、ただ一人の、知恵に満ち満ちた神様に、栄光と誉れとが、永遠にありますように。　アーメン。
18 息子テモテよ。　あなたに命じます。　主が預言者たちを通して言われたように、主のための戦いをりっぱに戦い抜きなさい。　19 キリスト様を信じる信仰を、しっかり守りなさい。　また、正しいと思うことは進んで行ない、いつも良心に恥じない歩みをしなさい。　悪いことと知りながら、良心に逆らって、あえて行動に移す人がいます。　神様をないがしろにするような人が、たちまちキリスト様への信仰を失ったとしても、少しも不思議はありません。　20 ヒメナオとアレキサンデルの二人は、その悪い見本です。　私は、彼らを罰するために、悪魔の手に引き渡さざるをえませんでした。　それは、キリスト様の名を辱しめてはならないことを、身をもって学ばせるためです。

1 Timothy 1

1 Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus according to the commandment of God our Saviour, and Christ Jesus our hope;2 unto Timothy, my true child in faith: Grace, mercy, peace, from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.3 As I exhorted thee to tarry at Ephesus, when I was going into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge certain men not to teach a different doctrine,4 neither to give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questionings, rather than a dispensation of God which is in faith; so do I now.5 But the end of the charge is love out of a pure heart and a good conscience and faith unfeigned:6 from which things some having swerved have turned aside unto vain talking;7 desiring to be teachers of the law, though they understand neither what they say, nor whereof they confidently affirm.8 But we know that the law is good, if a man use it lawfully,9 as knowing this, that law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and unruly, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,10 for fornicators, for abusers of themselves with men, for menstealers, for liars, for false swearers, and if there be any other thing contrary to the sound doctrine;11 according to the gospel of the glory of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust.12 I thank him that enabled me, even Christ Jesus our Lord, for that he counted me faithful, appointing me to his service;13 though I was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: howbeit I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief;14 and the grace of our Lord abounded exceedingly with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.15 Faithful is the saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief:16 howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me as chief might Jesus Christ show forth all his longsuffering, for an ensample of them that should thereafter believe on him unto eternal life.17 Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.18 This charge I commit unto thee, my child Timothy, according to the prophecies which led the way to thee, that by them thou mayest war the good warfare;19 holding faith and a good conscience; which some having thrust from them made shipwreck concerning the faith:20 of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I delivered unto Satan, that they might be taught not to blaspheme.
