1 Timoteo 1

1 Questa lettera è scritta da Paolo, apostolo di Gesù Cristo per ordine di Dio, nostro Salvatore, e di Gesù Cristo nostra unica speranza,2 ed è indirizzata a Timòteo.
Timòteo, per quanto riguarda la fede, sei per me come un figlio. Possano Dio, nostro Padre, e il nostro Signore Gesù Cristo darti grazia, misericordia e pace.

Attenti ai falsi maestri!

3-4 Come già ti dissi mentre partivo per la Macedonia, ti prego di rimanere lì ad Efeso per far tacere quei tali che stanno insegnando altre false dottrine.
Metti fine una buona volta ai miti, alle favole e alle genealogie interminabili. Queste idee strambe suscitano soltanto discussioni, anziché aiutare la gente ad accettare il piano di Dio, che si fonda sulla fede.5 Ciò che mi sta più a cuore è che tutti i cristiani siano guidati dall’amore che viene da un cuore puro, da una buona coscienza e da una fede sincera,6 cose che questi « maestri » hanno perso di vista, per sprecare il loro tempo in discussioni e chiacchiere inutili.7 Pretendono di essere dottori nella legge di Dio, mentre non conoscono in realtà né quello di cui parlano, né quello che affermano con tanta sicurezza.8 Ora, noi sappiamo bene che le leggi sono buone, quando se ne fa l’uso che intende il Signore.9 Esse non sono state fatte per i giusti, bensì per i peccatori, che le rifiutano e si ribellano a Dio. Servono per gli empi, per gli scellerati e per quelli che non rispettano Dio e ciò che è sacro; servono per chi alza le mani sui genitori e per gli assassini.10-11 È così: queste leggi sono state fatte perché possano riconoscersi peccatori tutti quelli che sono immorali, pervertiti, trafficanti di uomini e donne, bugiardi, tutti quelli che sono spergiuri e che vanno contro il giusto insegnamento del Vangelo che ci fa conoscere la gloria del Signore benedetto, Vangelo di cui mi è stata affidata la predicazione.12 Ringrazio Gesù Cristo, nostro Signore, che mi ha considerato degno di fiducia e mi ha dato la forza di compiere il servizio che mi ha affidato.13 Ha chiamato me, che prima ero un bestemmiatore, un persecutore e lo avevo offeso. Ma Dio ha avuto pietà di me, perché in quel periodo non conoscevo Cristo e non mi rendevo conto di ciò che facevo.14 Quanto è stato misericordioso il Signore, che mi ha mostrato la via per credere in lui e mi ha riempito dell’amore di Gesù Cristo!15 Questo è un fatto sicuro, degno di essere accettato da tutti con piena fiducia: Gesù è venuto nel mondo per salvare i peccatori, dei quali io sono il peggiore.16 Ma Dio ha avuto pietà di me, perché Cristo mi potesse usare come esempio, per dimostrare a tutti quanto sia grande la sua pazienza perfino verso i peccatori più incalliti, in modo che anche gli altri credano in lui e possano avere la vita eterna.17 Sia gloria e onore a Dio per sempre! A lui che è il Re di tutte le età, l’invisibile che non muore mai, il solo e unico Dio, pieno di saggezza. Amen.18 Ed ora, Timòteo, figlio mio, ecco l’incarico che ho per te: in accordo con le profezie che sono state fatte su di te, perché, fondato su di esse, tu combatta con impegno la buona battaglia.19 Aggrappati forte alla tua fede in Cristo e mantieni sempre pulita la tua coscienza, facendo ciò che è giusto. Perché alcuni, per aver disobbedito alla propria coscienza, hanno fallito nella fede.20 Fra questi ci sono Imenèo e Alessandro, che ho abbandonato in mano a Satana, perché li punisca, così impareranno a non bestemmiare.

1 Timothy 1

1 Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus according to the commandment of God our Saviour, and Christ Jesus our hope;2 unto Timothy, my true child in faith: Grace, mercy, peace, from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.3 As I exhorted thee to tarry at Ephesus, when I was going into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge certain men not to teach a different doctrine,4 neither to give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questionings, rather than a dispensation of God which is in faith; so do I now.5 But the end of the charge is love out of a pure heart and a good conscience and faith unfeigned:6 from which things some having swerved have turned aside unto vain talking;7 desiring to be teachers of the law, though they understand neither what they say, nor whereof they confidently affirm.8 But we know that the law is good, if a man use it lawfully,9 as knowing this, that law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and unruly, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,10 for fornicators, for abusers of themselves with men, for menstealers, for liars, for false swearers, and if there be any other thing contrary to the sound doctrine;11 according to the gospel of the glory of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust.12 I thank him that enabled me, even Christ Jesus our Lord, for that he counted me faithful, appointing me to his service;13 though I was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: howbeit I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief;14 and the grace of our Lord abounded exceedingly with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.15 Faithful is the saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief:16 howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me as chief might Jesus Christ show forth all his longsuffering, for an ensample of them that should thereafter believe on him unto eternal life.17 Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.18 This charge I commit unto thee, my child Timothy, according to the prophecies which led the way to thee, that by them thou mayest war the good warfare;19 holding faith and a good conscience; which some having thrust from them made shipwreck concerning the faith:20 of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I delivered unto Satan, that they might be taught not to blaspheme.
