اول تیموتائوس 1

1 از پولُس که به حکم نجات‌دهندۀ ما خدا و امیدمان مسیحْ عیسی، رسول مسیحْ عیسی است؛

2 به تیموتائوس، فرزند راستینم در ایمان:
فیض و رحمت و آرامش از جانب خدای پدر و خداوندمان مسیحْ عیسی بر شما باد.

هشدار دربارۀ تعالیم نادرست

3 چنانکه به‌هنگام عزیمتم به مقدونیه به تو اصرار کردم، باز از تو می‌خواهم در اِفِسُس بمانی تا بعضی را فرمان دهی که تعلیمی دیگر ندهند4 و خویشتن را با افسانه‌ها و شجره‌نامه‌های بی‌پایان سرگرم نسازند، زیرا اینها به‌جای ترویج کار خداt که از راه ایمان ممکن می‌شود، مباحثاتt را دامن می‌زند.5 هدف از این فرمان، محبت است، محبتی برخاسته از دلی پاک، وجدانی صالح و ایمانی بی‌ریا.6 بعضی کسان از اینها منحرف شده، به بیهوده‌گویی روی آورده‌اند،7 و می‌خواهند معلّمان شریعت باشند، حال آنکه نمی‌دانند چه می‌گویند یا از چه چیز چنین مطمئن دَم می‌زنند.8 ما می‌دانیم که شریعت نیکوست، اگر کسی آن را به‌درستی به‌کار بندد.9 نیز می‌دانیم که شریعت نه برای درستکاران، بلکه برای قانون‌شکنان و سرکشان وضع شده است، برای بی‌دینان و گناهکاران، و ناپاکان و کافران؛ برای قاتلان پدر و قاتلان مادر؛ برای آدمکشان،10 زناکاران و همجنس‌بازان؛ برای آدم‌ربایان،t دروغگویان و شهادت‌دهندگانِ به دروغ،t و نیز برای هر عملی که خلاف تعلیم صحیح باشد،11 تعلیم منطبق بر انجیلِ پرجلالِ خدای متبارک که به من سپرده شده است.

فیض خداوند نسبت به پولُس

12 خداوندمان مسیحْ عیسی را شکرگزارم که مرا توانایی بخشید و درخور اعتماد شمرد و به خدمت خویش برگماشت.13 با آنکه در گذشته، کفرگو و ستمگر و زورگو بودم، بر من رحم شد، زیرا از ناآگاهی و بی‌ایمانی چنین می‌کردم.14 آری، فیض خداوند ما، همراه با ایمان و محبتی که در مسیحْ عیسی یافت می‌شود، مرا به فراوانی فروگرفت.15 این سخنی است درخور اعتماد و پذیرش کامل، که مسیحْ عیسی به جهان آمد تا گناهکاران را نجات بخشد، که من بزرگترین آنهایم.16 از همین‌رو، بر من رحم شد تا مسیحْ عیسی صبر بی‌پایان خود را نسبت به من که بزرگترینِ گناهکاران بودم، نشان دهد، تا نمونه‌ای باشم برای جملۀ آنان که از این پس به او ایمان آورده، حیات جاویدان خواهند یافت.17 بر خدای یکتا، آن پادشاه سرمدی، نامیرا و نادیدنی، تا ابدالآباد حرمت و جلال باد؛ آمین!18 پسرم، تیموتائوس، این حکم را مطابق با نبوّتهایی که پیشتر بر تو شد، به تو می‌سپارم تا به‌مدد آنهاt در نبردِ نیکو پیکار کنی،19 و به ایمان و وجدانی پاک متمسّک باشی، چرا که کِشتی ایمان بعضی با زیر پا نهادن آنها در‌‌هم شکسته است.20 هیمِنائوس و اسکندر از این دسته‌اند، که ایشان را به شیطان سپردم تا عبرت گرفته، دیگر کفر نگویند.

God our Savior and Christ Jesus commanded me to be an apostle of Christ Jesus, who gives us hope.

2  t Timothy, because of our faith, you are like a son to me. I pray that God our Father and our Lord Jesus Christ will be kind and merciful to you. May they bless you with peace!

Warning against False //Teaching

4 You needed to warn them to stop wasting their time on senseless stories and endless lists of ancestors. Such things only cause arguments. They don't help anyone to do God's work that can only be done by faith.
5 You must teach people to have genuine love, as well as a good conscience and true faith. 6 There are some who have given up these for nothing but empty talk.

7 They want to be teachers of the Law of Moses. But they don't know what they are talking about, even though they think they do.
8 We know the Law is good, if it is used in the right way. 9 We also understand it wasn't given to control people who please God, but to control lawbreakers, criminals, godless people, and sinners. It is for wicked and evil people, and for murderers, who would even kill their own parents. 10 The Law was written for people who are sexual perverts or who live as homosexuals or are kidnappers or liars or won't tell the truth in court. It is for anything else that opposes the correct teaching

11 of the good news the glorious and wonderful God has given me.

Being Thankful for //God's Kindness

14 Christ Jesus our Lord treated me with undeserved grace and has greatly blessed my life with faith and love just like his own.
15 “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.” This saying is true, and it can be trusted. I was the worst sinner of all! 16 But since I was worse than anyone else, God had mercy on me and let me be an example of the endless patience of Christ Jesus. He did this so that others would put their faith in Christ and have eternal life.

17 I pray that honor and glory will always be given to the only God, who lives forever and is the invisible and eternal King! Amen.
18 Timothy, my son, the instructions I am giving you are based on what some prophetst once said about you. If you follow these instructions, you will fight like a good soldier. 19 You will be faithful and have a clear conscience. Some people have made a mess of their faith because they didn't listen to their consciences. 20 Two of them are Hymenaeus and Alexander. I have given these men over to the power of Satan, so they will learn not to oppose God.
