Hälsning

1 Från Paulus, Kristi Jesu apostel på uppdrag av Gud, vår Frälsare, och Kristus Jesus, vårt hopp,2 till Timoteus, hans äkta barn i tron. Nåd, barmhärtighet och frid från Gud, vår Fader, och Kristus Jesus, vår Herre.

Varning för judaiserande villolärare

3 Nu, liksom när jag var på väg till Makedonien, uppmanar jag dig att stanna kvar i Efesus och förmana somliga där att inte förkunna falska läror4 och befatta sig med mytert och ändlösa släktregister. Sådant leder till strider och tjänar inte en gudomlig undervisning i tron.5 Vad all förmaning syftar till är kärlek av ett rent hjärta, av ett gott samvete och av en uppriktig tro.6 Detta mål har somliga förlorat ur sikte och så förfallit till tomt prat.7 De vill vara lärare i lagen men förstår varken vad de säger eller vad de så säkert uttalar sig om.8 Men vi vet att lagen är god, om man brukar den rätt9 och inser att den inte är till för rättfärdiga utan för laglösa och upproriska, gudlösa och syndare, oheliga och oandliga, för dem som misshandlar sin far och mor, för dråpare,10 för dem som utövar otukt och homosexualitet, för slavhandlare, lögnare, menedare och för alla som står emot den sunda läran -11 detta enligt det evangelium om den välsignade Gudens härlighet, som har anförtrotts åt mig.

Aposteln som det främsta exemplet på frälsning av nåd

12 Jag tackar honom som har gett mig kraft, Kristus Jesus vår Herre, för att han ansåg mig värd förtroende och tog mig i sin tjänst,13 fastän jag förut var en hädare, förföljare och våldsman. Men han förbarmade sig över mig, därför att jag i min otro inte visste vad jag gjorde.14 Vår Herres nåd överflödade och med den tron och kärleken i Kristus Jesus.15 Det är ett ord att lita på och värt att på allt sätt tas emot, att Kristus Jesus har kommit till världen för att frälsa syndare - och bland dem är jag den störste.16 Men jag mötte barmhärtighet, för att Kristus Jesus skulle visa hela sitt tålamod främst mot mig och låta mig bli en förebild för dem som skulle komma till tro på honom och vinna evigt liv.17 Evigheternas konung, den oförgänglige, osynlige, ende Guden, honom vare ära och pris i evigheters evighet, amen.18 Detta uppdrag att förmana anförtror jag åt dig, mitt barn Timoteus, i enlighet med de profetord som en gång uttalades över dig, för att du i kraft av dem skall kämpa den goda kampen,19 i tro och med ett rent samvete. Detta har somliga stött ifrån sig och lidit skeppsbrott i tron.20 Bland dem är Hymeneus och Alexander, som jag har överlämnat åt Satan för att de skall tuktas så att de inte hädar.

God our Savior and Christ Jesus commanded me to be an apostle of Christ Jesus, who gives us hope.

2  t Timothy, because of our faith, you are like a son to me. I pray that God our Father and our Lord Jesus Christ will be kind and merciful to you. May they bless you with peace!

Warning against False //Teaching

4 You needed to warn them to stop wasting their time on senseless stories and endless lists of ancestors. Such things only cause arguments. They don't help anyone to do God's work that can only be done by faith.
5 You must teach people to have genuine love, as well as a good conscience and true faith. 6 There are some who have given up these for nothing but empty talk.

7 They want to be teachers of the Law of Moses. But they don't know what they are talking about, even though they think they do.
8 We know the Law is good, if it is used in the right way. 9 We also understand it wasn't given to control people who please God, but to control lawbreakers, criminals, godless people, and sinners. It is for wicked and evil people, and for murderers, who would even kill their own parents. 10 The Law was written for people who are sexual perverts or who live as homosexuals or are kidnappers or liars or won't tell the truth in court. It is for anything else that opposes the correct teaching

11 of the good news the glorious and wonderful God has given me.

Being Thankful for //God's Kindness

14 Christ Jesus our Lord treated me with undeserved grace and has greatly blessed my life with faith and love just like his own.
15 “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.” This saying is true, and it can be trusted. I was the worst sinner of all! 16 But since I was worse than anyone else, God had mercy on me and let me be an example of the endless patience of Christ Jesus. He did this so that others would put their faith in Christ and have eternal life.

17 I pray that honor and glory will always be given to the only God, who lives forever and is the invisible and eternal King! Amen.
18 Timothy, my son, the instructions I am giving you are based on what some prophetst once said about you. If you follow these instructions, you will fight like a good soldier. 19 You will be faithful and have a clear conscience. Some people have made a mess of their faith because they didn't listen to their consciences. 20 Two of them are Hymenaeus and Alexander. I have given these men over to the power of Satan, so they will learn not to oppose God.
