1. Timotheus 4
1 Der Geist verkündigt ganz ausdrücklich,t daß in späteren Zeiten manche vom Glauben abfallen werden, weil sie irreführenden Geistern folgen und Teufelslehren,2 die von heuchlerischen Lügnern ausgehen: Von Menschen, die in ihrem Gewissen (gleich Verbrechern) ein Brandmal ihrer Schuld tragen.t3 Diese Leute verbieten die Ehe und den Genuß von Speisen, die doch Gott geschaffen hat, damit sie von den Gläubigen, die die Wahrheit erkannt haben, mit Danksagung genossen werden.t4 Denn alles, was Gott geschaffen hat, ist gut; und (darum) braucht man auch kein Nahrungsmittel (als böse) zu verwerfen, wenn man's mit Danksagung genießt.5 Es wird ja geheiligt durch Gottes Wort, das in dem Tischgebet zum Ausdruck kommt.6 Wenn du so die Brüder unterweist, wirst du ein trefflicher Diener Christi Jesu sein; denn dann nährst du dich mit den Worten des Glaubens und der heilsamen Lehre, der du bisher gefolgt bist.7 Jene Fabeleient aber, die mit dem Heiligen nichts zu tun haben, und die nur leeres Geschwätz sind, die laß beiseite! Hingegen übe dich, in der Frömmigkeit zu wachsen!8 Denn die leibliche Übung bringt wenig Nutzen. die Frömmigkeit aber ist zu allem nütze, denn sie hat eine Verheißung für dieses Lebent und das zukünftige.t9 Das ist ein wahres Wortt und allgemeiner Anerkennung wert.t10 Wir nehmen ja deshalb Mühe und Schande auf uns, weil wir auf den lebendigen Gott vertrauen: der ist der Retter aller Menschen und ganz besonders der Gläubigen.11 Diest schärfe ein und lehre!12 Damit niemand deiner Jugend wegent gering von dir denke, so sei in Wort und Wandel, in Liebe, Glauben und Sittenreinheit den Gläubigen ein Vorbild!13 Bis zu meiner Ankunft sorge dafür, daß die heiligen Schriften vorgelesen werden, und daß die Gemeinde Ermahnung und Belehrung empfange!14 Versäume nicht,t die Gnadengabe zu betätigen, die in dir wohnt, und die dir nach vorausgegangener Weissagungt unter Handauflegung der Ältestenschaft (von mir) zuteil geworden ist.t15 Diest laß deine Sorge sein; dem gibt dich hin, damit alle deutlich sehen, wie du (im geistlichen Leben) fortschreitest!16 Achte beharrlich auf dein Verhalten und auf die Lehre, (die du vorträgst)! Tust du das, so wirst du dich und deine Hörer zum Heil führen.
1 Timothy 4
1 But the Spirit saith expressly, that in later times some shall fall away from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of demons,2 through the hypocrisy of men that speak lies, branded in their own conscience as with a hot iron;3 forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by them that believe and know the truth.4 For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be rejected, if it be received with thanksgiving:5 for it is sanctified through the word of God and prayer.6 If thou put the brethren in mind of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Christ Jesus, nourished in the words of the faith, and of the good doctrine which thou hast followed until now:7 but refuse profane and old wives’ fables. And exercise thyself unto godliness:8 for bodily exercise is profitable for a little; but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life which now is, and of that which is to come.9 Faithful is the saying, and worthy of all acceptation.10 For to this end we labor and strive, because we have our hope set on the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of them that believe.11 These things command and teach.12 Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an ensample to them that believe, in word, in manner of life, in love, in faith, in purity.13 Till I come, give heed to reading, to exhortation, to teaching.14 Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.15 Be diligent in these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy progress may be manifest unto all.16 Take heed to thyself, and to thy teaching. Continue in these things; for in doing this thou shalt save both thyself and them that hear thee.
