1 Timoteus 6
Slawe
1 Almal wat tslawe is en wat ’n tjuk moet dra, moet hulle eienaars respekteer. Die slawe moet dit doen sodat ander mense nie sleg praat van die Naam van God en van die dinge wat ons vir die mense geleer het nie.
2 Maar party slawe se eienaars glo in Christus, en daardie slawe moenie dink dat hulle eienaars onbelangrik is omdat die eienaars ook tgelowiges is soos die slawe nie. Nee, daardie slawe moet nóg harder werk, want hulle werk vir mense wat ook in Christus glo, en God is lief vir daardie mense.Pasop vir vals profete
Jy moet aanhou om hierdie dinge vir die mense te leer. Jy moet sê dat hulle dit moet doen. 3 Daar is tvals profete wat vir die tgelowiges ander dinge wil leer. Die vals profete glo nie die woorde van ons Here Jesus Christus nie. Hy het vir ons die regte dinge geleer. Die vals profete glo ook nie die mense wat vir ons leer hoe om vir God te dien nie. 4 Die mense wat vir die gelowiges ander dinge wil leer, is hoogmoedig, maar hulle weet niks. Hulle is soos mense wie se gees siek is. Hulle wil altyd met ander mense twis en oor woorde stry. Dan word mense jaloers, hulle stry met mekaar, hulle sê slegte dinge van ander mense en hulle dink slegte dinge van ander mense.
5 Hierdie vals profete hou aan om te stry. Hulle kan nie meer reg dink nie, hulle weet nie meer wat die waarheid is nie. Hulle dink dat hulle ryk sal word as hulle vir God dien.Geld maak ’n mens nie waarlik ryk nie
6 Maar wanneer ’n mens vir God dien en jy is ook tevrede met wat jy het, dan het jy baie. 7 Want ons het niks ingebring in die wêreld nie, en ons kan ook niks uitneem uit die wêreld nie. 8 Daarom moet ons tevrede wees wanneer ons kos en klere het. 9 Wanneer mense baie graag ryk wil word, dan doen hulle maklik sonde. Hulle sit soos ’n voël vas in ’n tvangstrik. Hulle is tdwase wat dinge wil hê wat nie goed is vir hulle nie. Hulle sterf en is soos ’n skip wat in die water sink, daar bly niks oor van hulle nie.
10 Wanneer mense lief is vir geld, dan doen hulle baie slegte dinge. Mense wat graag baie geld wou hê, het opgehou om in Christus te glo. So het hulle hulleself baie swaar laat kry.Paulus wil vir Timoteus bemoedig
11 Maar Timoteus, jy behoort aan God. Daarom moet jy wegvlug van hierdie verkeerde dinge. Jy moet aanhou probeer om dinge te doen wat reg is. Jy moet probeer om vir God te dien, om in Christus te glo, om lief te wees vir mense, om aan te hou om dit te doen en om iemand met ’n sagte hart te wees. 12 Dit is nie maklik om in Christus te glo nie, dit is soos wanneer iemand hardloop in ’n moeilike resies. Jy moet aanhou om hard te probeer in hierdie resies wat jy hardloop. Jy moet hard probeer om die prys te kry, die prys is die tewige lewe. God het jou geroep om die ewige lewe te kry toe jy reguit gesê het dat jy in Christus glo, baie mense het gehoor toe jy dit gesê het. 13 God laat alles lewe, en Christus Jesus het voor Pontius Pilatus reguit gesê wat die waarheid is en wie Hy is. God en Christus Jesus hoor wanneer ek vir jou sê: 14 Jy moet presies doen wat ek vir jou gesê het en jy moet heeltemal reg lewe. Jy moet dit doen totdat ons Here Jesus Christus weer sal kom. 15 Hy sal op die regte tyd kom. God sal dit laat gebeur. Ons moet God prys, dit is net Hy wat regeer. Hy is die Koning van die konings, Hy is die Here van almal wat regeer.
16 Dit is net Hy wat nooit sterf nie, Hy woon in ’n lig wat so blink dat niemand naby Hom kan kom nie. Niemand het vir God gesien nie, nooit nie, en niemand kán Hom sien nie. Ons bid dat die mense altyd vir God sal teer, God wat altyd sterk is. Amen.Hoe ryk Christene moet lewe
17 Daar is mense wat nou ryk is in hierdie wêreld. Jy moet vir hulle sê hulle moenie hoogmoedig wees nie. En hulle moenie dink dat geld en rykdom hulle altyd sal help nie. ’n Mens kan nooit seker wees dat jy altyd ryk sal wees nie. Nee, hulle moet seker weet dat God vir ons alles sal gee wat ons nodig het. Ja, Hy gee vir ons nog meer sodat ons dit kan geniet. 18 Die ryk mense moet goeie dinge doen, ja, hulle moet baie goeie dinge doen. Dit is hoe hulle ryk moet wees. Hulle moet baie graag van hulle eie goed vir ander mense gee.
19 Wanneer hulle dit doen, dan maak hulle vir hulle goed bymekaar wat later soos ’n vaste tfondament sal wees. Hulle moet dit alles doen sodat hulle die ware lewe kan kry.Paulus se laaste woorde aan Timoteus
20 Timoteus, God het baie dinge vir jou gegee, jy moet dit goed oppas, en jy moenie luister na die stories van mense wat niks weet van God nie. Hulle praat baie, maar die dinge wat hulle sê, beteken niks. Hulle stry altyd met mekaar en hulle sê hulle weet die regte dinge, maar dit is nie waar nie.
21 Die mense wat hierdie dinge sê, het opgehou om te glo.
Ek bid dat God tgenadig sal wees vir julle.
1 Timothy 6
1 All who are forced to serve as slaves should consider their masters worthy of full respect. Then people will not speak evil things against God's name and against what we teach.
2 Some slaves have masters who are believers. They shouldn't show less respect for their masters just because they are believers. Instead, they should serve them even better. That's because those who benefit from their service are believers. They are loved by them.
Teach the slaves those things. Try hard to get them to do them.
Love for Money
3 Suppose someone teaches ideas that are false. He doesn't agree with the true teaching of our Lord Jesus Christ. He doesn't agree with godly teaching.4 People like that are proud. They don't understand anything. They like to argue more than they should. They can't agree about what words mean.
All of that results in wanting what others have. It causes fighting, harmful talk, and evil distrust.5 It stirs up trouble all the time among people whose minds are twisted by sin. The truth they once had has been taken away from them. They think they can get rich by being godly.
6 You gain a lot when you live a godly life. But you must be happy with what you have.7 We didn't bring anything into the world. We can't take anything out of it.8 If we have food and clothing, we will be happy with that.
9 People who want to get rich are tempted. They fall into a trap. They are tripped up by wanting many foolish and harmful things. Those who live like that are dragged down by what they do. They are destroyed and die.
10 Love for money causes all kinds of evil. Some people want to get rich. They have wandered away from the faith. They have wounded themselves with many sorrows.
Paul Gives a Command to Timothy
11 But you are a man of God. Run away from all of those things. Try hard to do what is right and godly. Have faith, love and gentleness. Hold on to what you believe.12 Fight the good fight along with all other believers. Take hold of eternal life. You were chosen for it when you openly told others what you believe. Many witnesses heard you.
13 God gives life to everything. Christ Jesus told the truth when he gave witness to Pontius Pilate. In the sight of God and Christ, I give you a command.14 Obey it until our Lord Jesus Christ appears. Obey it completely. Then no one can find fault with it or you.
15 God will bring Jesus back at a time that pleases him. God is the blessed and only Ruler. He is the greatest King of all. He is the most powerful Lord of all.
16 God is the only one who can't die. He lives in light that no one can get close to. No one has seen him. No one can see him.
Give honor and power to him forever. Amen.
17 Command people who are rich in this world not to be proud. Tell them not to put their hope in riches. Wealth is so uncertain. Command those who are rich to put their hope in God. He richly provides us with everything to enjoy.
18 Command the rich to do what is good. Tell them to be rich in doing good things. They must give freely. They must be willing to share.19 In that way they will put riches away for themselves. It will provide a firm basis for the next life. Then they will take hold of the life that really is life.
20 Timothy, guard what God has trusted you with. Turn away from godless chatter. Stay away from opposing ideas that are falsely called knowledge.21 Some people believe them. By doing that they have wandered away from the faith.
