Los esclavos cristianos

1 Los que están bajo el yugo de la esclavitudt deben considerar a sus amos como dignos del mayor respeto. Así, nadie podrá denigrar el nombre de Dios ni la enseñanza cristiana.t

2 Quienes tengan por amos a creyentes, no deben faltarles al respeto con la excusa de que son hermanos. Al contrario, deben servirlos con mayor esmero, pues los que se benefician de su servicio comparten con ellos una misma fe y un mismo amor.

El falso maestro


Esto es lo que debes enseñar y recomendar. 3 Si alguno enseña otra cosa y no da crédito a las palabras salvadoras de nuestro Señor Jesucristo ni a la enseñanza que se ajusta a una vida auténticamente piadosa,t 4 es que está cegado por el orgullo y no sabe nada. Padece el mal de las disputas y de los inútiles juegos de palabras de donde proceden las envidias, los pleitos, las calumnias y las sospechas maliciosas.

5 Y también los conflictos sin fin, propios de personas con la mente embotada, de personas que están lejos de la verdad y piensan que la religiónt es un negocio.t

Contra el afán de riquezas


6 Y ciertamente la religión es un magnífico negocio cuando uno se contenta con lo que tiene.t 7 Porque nada trajimos al mundo y nada podremos llevarnos de él.t 8 Contentémonos, pues, con no carecer de comida y de vestido,t 9 pues los que se afanan por ser ricos se enredan en trampas y tentaciones y en un sinfín de insensatos y dañosos deseos que los hunden en la perdición y en la ruina.t

10 La avaricia, en efecto, es la raíz de todos los males y, arrastrados por ella, algunos han perdido la fe y ahora son presa de múltiples remordimientos.

Nuevas recomendaciones a Timoteo


11 Pero tú, que eres hombre de Dios*, huye de todo eso y busca con ahinco la rectitudt, la piedad, la fe, el amor, la paciencia y la dulzura.t 12 Mantén valerosamente el noble combate de la fe. Conquista la vida eterna a la que Dios te ha llamado y de la que has hecho tan noble profesiónt delante de muchos testigos.t 13 En presencia de Dios, que infunde vida a todas las cosas, y de Cristo Jesús, que rindió ante Poncio Pilato el más bello testimonio, te pido solemnementet 14 que guardes limpio y sin reproche este mandato* hasta el día en que nuestro Señor Jesucristo se manifiestet.t

15 Manifestación que:
al tiempo prefijado llevará a cabo Dios,
el bienaventuradot y único soberano,
el Rey de reyes y Señor de señores;t

16 el único que es inmortal,
que habita una luz inaccesible
y a quien nadie ha visto ni puede ver.
Suyos son por siempre el honor y el poder. Amén.t

Consejos a los ricos


17 Inculca a los ricos de este mundo que no sean arrogantes y que no pongan su esperanza en algo tan inseguro como el dinero, sino que la pongan en Dios que nos concede disfrutar de todo en abundancia.t 18 Incúlcales que practiquen la virtud, que atesoren buenas obras y que sean generosos y desprendidos.t

19 Así se labrarán para el futuro un sólido capital de reserva y alcanzarán la vida verdadera.t

20 Querido Timoteo, conserva lo que te ha sido transmitido*. Haz oídos sordos a toda estéril y profana palabrería, así como a las objeciones de esa pretendida cienciat t 21 que algunos han seguido, apartándose, en consecuencia, de la fe. Que la gracia esté con ustedest. t

1 Timothy 6

1 Those who are under the yoke as slavest must regard their own masters as deserving of full respect. This will preventt the name of God and Christian teachingt from being discredited.t

2 But those who have believing masters must not show them less respectt because they are brothers. Instead they are to serve all the more, because those who benefit from their service are believers and dearly loved.t
Teach them and exhort them about these things.t

Summary of Timothy’s Duties

3 If someone spreads false teachingst and does not agree with sound words (that is, those of our Lord Jesus Christ) and with the teaching that accords with godliness,4 he is conceited and understands nothing, but has an unhealthy interest in controversies and verbal disputes. This gives rise to envy, dissension, slanders, evil suspicions,5 and constant bickering by people corrupted in their minds and deprived of the truth, who suppose that godlinesss is a way of making a profit.6 Now godliness combined with contentment brings great profit.7 For we have brought nothing into this world and sos we cannot take a single thing out either.8 But if we have food and shelter, we will be satisfied with that.t9 Those who long to be rich, however, stumble into temptation and a trap and many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction.

10 For the love of money is the roott of all evils.t Some people in reaching for it have strayed from the faith and stabbed themselves with many pains.
11 But you, as a person dedicated to God,t keep away from all that.t Instead pursue righteousness, godliness, faithfulness, love, endurance, and gentleness.12 Compete wellt for the faith and lay hold of that eternal life you were called for and made your good confessions fort in the presence of many witnesses.13 I charge youst before God who gives life to all things and Christ Jesus who made his good confessionts before Pontius Pilate,14 to obeyt this commandts without fault or failure until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ15 – whose appearingt the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords, will reveal at the right time.

16 He alone possesses immortality and lives in unapproachable light, whom no human has ever seen or is able to see. To him be honor and eternal power! Amen.
17 Command those who are rich in this world’s goodst not to be haughty or to set their hope on riches, which are uncertain,t but on God who richly provides us with all things for our enjoyment.18 Tell them to do good,t to be rich in good deeds, to be generous givers, sharing with others.t

19 In this way they will save upt a treasure for themselves as a firm foundationt for the future and so lay hold oft what is truly life.

Conclusion

20 O Timothy, protect what has been entrusted to you. Avoidt the profane chatter and absurditiest of so-called “knowledge.”t

21 By professing it, some have strayed from the faith.t Grace be with you all.st
