1 Timoteo 6

1 Tutti quelli che sono sotto il giogo della schiavitù, stimino i loro padroni degni di ogni onore, perché il nome di Dio e la dottrina non vengano bestemmiati.

2 Quelli che hanno padroni credenti non li disprezzino, perché sono fratelli, ma li servano con maggiore impegno, perché quelli che beneficiano del loro servizio sono fedeli e amati. Insegna queste cose e raccomandale.

I falsi dottori; l'amore del denaro

3 Se qualcuno insegna una dottrina diversa e non si attiene alle sane parole del Signore nostro Gesù Cristo e alla dottrina che è conforme alla pietà,4 è un orgoglioso e non sa nulla; ma si fissa su questioni e dispute di parole, dalle quali nascono invidia, contese, maldicenza, cattivi sospetti,5 acerbe discussioni di persone corrotte di mente e prive della verità, le quali considerano la pietà come una fonte di guadagno.6 La pietà, con animo contento del proprio stato, è un grande guadagno.7 Infatti non abbiamo portato nulla nel mondo, e neppure possiamo portarne via nulla;8 ma avendo di che nutrirci e di che coprirci, saremo di questo contenti.9 Invece quelli che vogliono arricchire cadono vittime di tentazioni, di inganni e di molti desideri insensati e funesti, che affondano gli uomini nella rovina e nella perdizione.

10 Infatti l'amore del denaro è radice di ogni specie di mali, e alcuni che vi si sono dati si sono sviati dalla fede e si sono procurati molti dolori.

Raccomandazioni rivolte a Timoteo

11 Ma tu, uomo di Dio, fuggi queste cose e ricerca la giustizia, la pietà, la fede, l'amore, la costanza e la mansuetudine.12 Combatti il buon combattimento della fede, afferra la vita eterna alla quale sei stato chiamato e in vista della quale hai fatto quella bella confessione di fede in presenza di molti testimoni.13 Al cospetto di Dio, che dà vita a tutte le cose, e di Cristo Gesù, che rese testimonianza davanti a Ponzio Pilato con quella bella confessione di fede,14 ti ordino di osservare questo comandamento da uomo senza macchia, irreprensibile, fino all'apparizione del nostro Signore Gesù Cristo,15 la quale sarà a suo tempo manifestata dal beato e unico sovrano, il Re dei re e Signore dei signori,

16 il solo che possiede l'immortalità e che abita una luce inaccessibile, che nessun uomo ha visto né può vedere; a lui siano onore e potenza eterna. Amen.
17 Ai ricchi in questo mondo ordina di non essere d'animo orgoglioso, di non riporre la loro speranza nell'incertezza delle ricchezze, ma in Dio, che ci fornisce abbondantemente di ogni cosa perché ne godiamo;18 di fare del bene, di arricchirsi di opere buone, di essere generosi nel donare, pronti a dare,

19 così da mettersi da parte un tesoro ben fondato per l'avvenire, per ottenere la vera vita.
20 O Timoteo, custodisci il deposito t; evita i discorsi vuoti e profani e le obiezioni di quella che falsamente si chiama scienza;

21 alcuni di quelli che la professano si sono allontanati dalla fede. La grazia sia con voi.

1 TIMOTHY 6

1 If you are a slave, you should respect and honor your owner. This will keep people from saying bad things about God and about our teaching.

2 If any of you slaves have owners who are followers, you should show them respect. After all, they are also followers of Christ, and he loves them. So you should serve and help them the best you can.

False Teaching and //True Wealth

5 and nasty quarrels. They have wicked minds and have missed out on the truth.
These people think religion is supposed to make you rich. 6 And religion does make your life rich, by making you content with what you have. 7 We didn't bring anything into this world, and we won'tt take anything with us when we leave. 8 So we should be satisfied just to have food and clothes. 9 People who want to be rich fall into all sorts of temptations and traps. They are caught by foolish and harmful desires that drag them down and destroy them.

10 The love of money causes all kinds of trouble. Some people want money so much they have given up their faith and caused themselves a lot of pain.

Fighting a Good Fight //for the Faith

14 Promise to obey completely and fully all that you have been told until our Lord Jesus Christ returns.

15  t The glorious God
is the only Ruler,
the King of kings
and Lord of lords.
At the time that God
has already decided,
he will send Jesus Christ
back again.

16  t Only God lives forever!
And he lives in light
that no one can come near.
No human has ever seen God
or ever can see him.
God will be honored,
and his power
will last forever. Amen.
17 Warn the rich people of this world not to be proud or to trust in wealth that is easily lost. Tell them to have faith in God, who is rich and blesses us with everything we need to enjoy life. 18 Instruct them to do as many good deeds as they can and to help everyone. Remind the rich to be generous and share what they have.

19 This will lay a solid foundation for the future, so they will know what true life is like.
20 Timothy, guard what God has placed in your care! Don't pay any attention to godless and stupid talk that sounds smart but really isn't.

21 Some people have even lost their faith by believing this talk.
