Första Timotheosbrevet 6

1 De som bär slavoket skall visa sina herrar tillbörlig aktning, så att Guds namn och läran inte blir smädade.

2 De som har troende herrar får inte brista i respekt mot dem därför att de är deras bröder. Tvärtom bör de tjäna dem ännu villigare därför att de som drar nytta av deras tjänster är troende och älskade bröder.

Uppdraget skall vara obefläckat

Så skall du undervisa och förmana. 3 Den som lär annorlunda och inte håller sig till vår herre Jesu Kristi sunda ord och till det som vår religion lär, 4 han är förblindad och okunnig, med en sjuklig lust att diskutera och träta. Sådant leder till avund, strider, förtal, misstänkliggöranden 5 och ständiga bråk bland människor som har mist förståndet och tappat bort sanningen och som anser att religionen skall löna sig. 6 Och visst ger religionen god lön om man nöjer sig med det nödvändiga, 7 för tomhänta kom vi till världen och tomhänta skall vi gå ur den. 8 Har vi mat och kläder skall vi vara nöjda. 9 De som vill bli rika låter sig snärjas av frestelsen och faller offer för alla de dåraktiga och skadliga begär som störtar människorna i fördärv och undergång.

10 Kärleken till pengar är roten till allt ont; genom den har många förts bort från tron och vållat sig själva mycket lidande.
11 Men du som tillhör Gud, håll dig borta från sådant. Sträva efter rättfärdighet, gudsfruktan, tro, kärlek, uthållighet och ödmjukhet. 12 Kämpa trons goda kamp, sök vinna det eviga livet, som du har kallats till och för vars skull du har avlagt den rätta bekännelsen inför många vittnen. 13 Jag uppmanar dig inför Gud, som ger liv åt allt, och inför Kristus Jesus, som under Pontius Pilatus vittnade med den rätta bekännelsen — 14 håll ditt uppdrag obefläckat och klanderfritt till vår herre Jesu Kristi ankomst, 15 som den salige och ende härskaren skall låta oss uppleva när tiden är inne, han som är alla konungars konung och alla herrars herre,

16 som ensam är odödlig, som bor i ett ljus som ingen kan nalkas, han som ingen människa har sett eller kan se. Hans är äran och den eviga makten, amen.

En rikedom av goda gärningar

17 Säg åt dem som är rika i denna världen att inte vara högmodiga och inte bygga sitt hopp på något så osäkert som rikedom, utan på Gud, som rikligt skänker oss allt vi behöver. 18 Säg åt dem att göra gott, att skaffa sig en rikedom av goda gärningar, att vara frikostiga och dela med sig.

19 Så kan de samla en skatt som är en god grund för den kommande tiden och vinna det verkliga livet.

Slutmaning

20 Käre Timotheos, ta väl vara på det som har anförtrotts dig. Undvik det gudlösa pratet och invändningarna från en kunskap som bara är kunskap till namnet.

21 Somliga berömmer sig av den — så har de också kommit bort från tron.

1 TIMOTHY 6

1 If you are a slave, you should respect and honor your owner. This will keep people from saying bad things about God and about our teaching.

2 If any of you slaves have owners who are followers, you should show them respect. After all, they are also followers of Christ, and he loves them. So you should serve and help them the best you can.

False Teaching and //True Wealth

These are the things you must teach and tell the people to do. 3 Anyone who teaches something different disagrees with the correct and godly teaching of our Lord Jesus Christ. 4 Those people who disagree are proud of themselves, but they don't really know a thing. Their minds are sick, and they like to argue over words. They cause jealousy, disagreements, unkind words, evil suspicions,

5 and nasty quarrels. They have wicked minds and have missed out on the truth.
These people think religion is supposed to make you rich. 6 And religion does make your life rich, by making you content with what you have. 7 We didn't bring anything into this world, and we won'tt take anything with us when we leave. 8 So we should be satisfied just to have food and clothes. 9 People who want to be rich fall into all sorts of temptations and traps. They are caught by foolish and harmful desires that drag them down and destroy them.

10 The love of money causes all kinds of trouble. Some people want money so much they have given up their faith and caused themselves a lot of pain.

Fighting a Good Fight //for the Faith

11 Timothy, you belong to God, so keep away from all these evil things. Try your best to please God and to be like him. Be faithful, loving, dependable, and gentle. 12 Fight a good fight for the faith and claim eternal life. God offered it to you when you clearly told about your faith, while so many people listened. 13 t Now I ask you to make a promise. Make it in the presence of God, who gives life to all, and in the presence of Christ Jesus, who openly told Pontius Pilate about his faith.

14 Promise to obey completely and fully all that you have been told until our Lord Jesus Christ returns.

15  t The glorious God
is the only Ruler,
the King of kings
and Lord of lords.
At the time that God
has already decided,
he will send Jesus Christ
back again.

16  t Only God lives forever!
And he lives in light
that no one can come near.
No human has ever seen God
or ever can see him.
God will be honored,
and his power
will last forever. Amen.
17 Warn the rich people of this world not to be proud or to trust in wealth that is easily lost. Tell them to have faith in God, who is rich and blesses us with everything we need to enjoy life. 18 Instruct them to do as many good deeds as they can and to help everyone. Remind the rich to be generous and share what they have.

19 This will lay a solid foundation for the future, so they will know what true life is like.
20 Timothy, guard what God has placed in your care! Don't pay any attention to godless and stupid talk that sounds smart but really isn't.

21 Some people have even lost their faith by believing this talk.
