1 TIMOTEO 6

1 Los miembros de la iglesia que sean esclavos t deben respetar en todo a sus amos, para que nadie hable mal de Dios ni de las enseñanzas cristianas.

2 Y los que tengan amos cristianos no deben dejar de obedecerlos sólo porque ambos son cristianos. Al contrario, deben hacer bien su trabajo, y aún mejor, pues lo están haciendo para alguien a quien aprecian y que también confía en Dios.
A los miembros de la iglesia, y a sus líderes, enséñales que deben obedecer lo que te voy a decir:

Las falsas enseñanzas y el dinero

3 Si alguien enseña algo que no va de acuerdo con las enseñanzas de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, ni con la verdadera religión cristiana,4 es un orgulloso que no sabe nada, y que tiene la mala costumbre de discutir sobre el significado de ciertas palabras. Con esto sólo causa envidias, enojos, insultos, desconfianza5 y peleas en todo momento. Los que hacen eso no son capaces de pensar bien ni conocen la verdad; piensan que, por medio de la religión, pueden ganar mucho dinero.6 Por supuesto, la religión cristiana hace que nuestra vida sea mucho mejor, pero sólo cuando uno está contento con lo que tiene.7 Porque, cuando nacimos no trajimos nada al mundo, y cuando muramos tampoco podremos llevarnos nada.8 Así que debemos estar contentos de que tenemos ropa y comida.9 Pero los que sólo piensan en ser ricos caen en las trampas de Satanás. Son tentados a hacer cosas tontas y perjudiciales, que terminan por destruirlos totalmente.

10 Porque todos los males comienzan cuando sólo se piensa en el dinero. Por el deseo de amontonarlo, muchos se olvidaron de obedecer a Dios y acabaron por tener muchos problemas y sufrimientos.

Recomendaciones y despedida

11 Pero tú, Timoteo, estás al servicio de Dios. Por eso, aléjate de todo lo malo. Trata siempre de obedecer a Dios y de ser un buen discípulo de Jesucristo. No dejes de confiar en él, y ama a todos los hermanos de la iglesia. Cuando enfrentes dificultades, ten paciencia y sé amable con los demás.

12 Imita al deportista, que se esfuerza por ganar la competencia: haz todo lo posible por ser un buen discípulo de Jesucristo, y recibirás el premio de la vida eterna. Dios te llamó y te prometió esa vida cuando, delante de mucha gente, anunciaste que habías confiado en Dios.
13 Delante de Dios, que creó todo lo que existe, y delante de Jesucristo, que ante Pilato dio buen testimonio de su confianza en Dios,14 te pido que obedezcas todo lo que te ordeno, para que nadie pueda acusarte de nada. Haz esto hasta que vuelva nuestro Señor Jesucristo,

15 quien vendrá en el momento oportuno, cuando nuestro maravilloso Dios así lo quiera. Porque Dios es el único que gobierna sobre todos; Dios es el más grande de los reyes y el más poderoso de los gobernantes.

16 Dios es el único que vive para siempre, y vive en una luz tan brillante que nadie puede acercarse a él. Nadie lo ha visto ni puede verlo. ¡El honor y el poder son de él para siempre! Amén.
17 Adviérteles a los ricos de este mundo que no sean orgullosos ni confíen en sus riquezas, porque es muy fácil perder todo lo que se tiene. Al contrario, diles que confíen en Dios, pues él es bueno, y nos da todo lo que necesitamos para que lo disfrutemos.18 Mándales que hagan el bien, que se hagan ricos en buenas acciones. Recuérdales que deben dar y compartir lo que tienen.

19 Así tendrán un tesoro que, en el futuro, seguramente les permitirá disfrutar de la vida eterna.
20 Timoteo, ¡trata de hacer bien tu trabajo! No prestes atención a lo que dicen los que no creen en Cristo, ni a los que critican nuestras enseñanzas y afirman tener la verdad.

21 Por hacerles caso, algunos ya han dejado de confiar en Dios.
Yo le pido a Dios que a ustedes los llene de su amor.

1 Timothy 6

1 Let as many as are servants under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honor, that the name of God and the doctrine be not blasphemed.2 And they that have believing masters, let them not despise them, because they are brethren; but let them serve them the rather, because they that partake of the benefit are believing and beloved. These things teach and exhort.3 If any man teacheth a different doctrine, and consenteth not to sound words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness;4 he is puffed up, knowing nothing, but doting about questionings and disputes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings,5 wranglings of men corrupted in mind and bereft of the truth, supposing that godliness is a way of gain.6 But godliness with contentment is great gain:7 for we brought nothing into the world, for neither can we carry anything out;8 but having food and covering we shall be therewith content.9 But they that are minded to be rich fall into a temptation and a snare and many foolish and hurtful lusts, such as drown men in destruction and perdition.10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil: which some reaching after have been led astray from the faith, and have pierced themselves through with many sorrows.11 But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.12 Fight the good fight of the faith, lay hold on the life eternal, whereunto thou wast called, and didst confess the good confession in the sight of many witnesses.13 I charge thee in the sight of God, who giveth life to all things, and of Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed the good confession;14 that thou keep the commandment, without spot, without reproach, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ:15 which in its own times he shall show, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords;16 who only hath immortality, dwelling in light unapproachable; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honor and power eternal. Amen.17 Charge them that are rich in this present world, that they be not highminded, nor have their hope set on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;18 that they do good, that they be rich in good works, that they be ready to distribute, willing to communicate;19 laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on the life which is life indeed.20 O Timothy, guard that which is committed unto thee, turning away from the profane babblings and oppositions of the knowledge which is falsely so called;21 which some professing have erred concerning the faith.
