1 Timoteo 6

1 Todos los que sean esclavos deben mostrar completo respeto a sus amos para que no se hable mal del nombre de Dios ni de nuestra enseñanza.

2 Los que tienen amos que son creyentes no deben tenerles menos respeto por ser hermanos en la fe. Al contrario, sírvanlos aun mejor porque los que reciben sus servicios son creyentes y hermanos queridos.

Enseñanzas falsas y verdadera riqueza

3 Algunos enseñan ideas extrañas que no están de acuerdo con la verdadera enseñanza de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, la cual conduce a una vida recta, dedicada a Dios.4 Esos maestros se enorgullecen de lo que saben, pero realmente no saben nada. Están obsesionados con cuestiones y discusiones que resultan en envidias, conflictos, insultos, malas sospechas y5 peleas constantes. Tienen una mente perversa, terminan alejados de la verdad y piensan que la vida dedicada a Dios es una manera de ganar dinero.6 Es verdad que dedicarse a Dios es una manera de ganar mucho, pero en el sentido de vivir contento cada uno con lo que tiene.7 Cuando llegamos al mundo, no traíamos nada y cuando morimos no nos podemos llevar nada.8 Por eso, si tenemos alimentos y ropa, podemos darnos por satisfechos.9 Los que quieren ser ricos caen en la trampa de la tentación. Empiezan a tener deseos descabellados que los perjudican. Eso los hunde en la ruina total.

10 El amor por el dinero causa toda clase de males. Por querer tener más y más dinero, algunos se han desviado de la fe y se han causado gran sufrimiento.

Lo que debes hacer

11 Eres un hombre de Dios, así que evita todo eso. Esfuérzate por seguir una vida de rectitud, dedicarte a Dios y tener fe, amor, constancia y humildad.12 Mantener la fe es como una competencia. Haz todo lo posible por ganar la carrera y obtener la vida eterna. Dios te llamó para tener esa vida cuando declaraste la gran verdad de tu fet ante mucha gente.13 Te ordeno delante de Dios, quien le da vida a todo, y de Jesucristo, quien declaró esa misma verdad cuando dio testimonio ante Poncio Pilatot,14 que hagas todo exactamente como se te ha pedido y de manera que nadie pueda criticar. Continúa así hasta que nuestro Señor Jesucristo regrese.15 A su debido tiempo, Dios hará que él regrese. Bendito sea Dios, el único que tiene completa autoridad. Es el Rey de reyes y el Señor de Señores.

16 Dios es el único que no muere; vive en una luz tan brillante que nadie se le puede acercar. Nadie ha visto a Dios y nadie puede verlo. ¡A él sea el honor y poder por toda la eternidad! Así sea.t
17 Ordena a los que se hacen ricos con las cosas del mundo que no se llenen de orgullo. Diles que pongan su esperanza en Dios, no en el dinero, porque el dinero no es seguro. En cambio, Dios nos da todo en abundancia para disfrutarlo.18 Diles que hagan el bien, que se hagan ricos en buenas obras, que den con alegría y que estén dispuestos a compartir.

19 Si así lo hacen, estarán acumulando un tesoro en el cielo, que será una base firme para el futuro. Entonces podrán tener la verdadera vida.
20 Timoteo, mantente firme en lo que Dios te ha confiado. Evita a los que hablan tonterías que no vienen de Dios y que contradicen la verdad con un conocimiento que aparenta ser cierto, pero no lo es.

21 Al aceptar ese «conocimiento», algunos se han desviado de la fe.
Que Dios los bendiga en abundancia.

Instructions to Those Who Minister

1 All who are under the yoke as slaves are to regard their own masters as worthy of all honor so that the name of God and our doctrine will not be spoken against.2 Those who have believers as their masters must not be disrespectful to them because they are brethren, but must serve them all the more, because those who partake of the benefit are believers and beloved. Teach and preach these principles.

3 If anyone advocates a different doctrine and does not agree with sound words, those of our Lord Jesus Christ, and with the doctrine conforming to godliness,4 he is conceited and understands nothing; but he has a morbid interest in controversial questions and disputes about words, out of which arise envy, strife, abusive language, evil suspicions,5 and constant friction between men of depraved mind and deprived of the truth, who suppose that godliness is a means of gain.6 But godliness actually is a means of great gain when accompanied by contentment.7 For we have brought nothing into the world, so we cannot take anything out of it either.8 If we have food and covering, with these we shall be content.9 But those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a snare and many foolish and harmful desires which plunge men into ruin and destruction.10 For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

11 But flee from these things, you man of God, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, perseverance and gentleness.12 Fight the good fight of faith; take hold of the eternal life to which you were called, and you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.13 I charge you in the presence of God, who gives life to all things, and of Christ Jesus, who testified the good confession before Pontius Pilate,14 that you keep the commandment without stain or reproach until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ,15 which He will bring about at the proper time-He who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords,16 who alone possesses immortality and dwells in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen or can see. To Him be honor and eternal dominion! Amen.

17 Instruct those who are rich in this present world not to be conceited or to fix their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly supplies us with all things to enjoy.18  Instruct them to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share,19 storing up for themselves the treasure of a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is life indeed.

20 O Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to you, avoiding worldly and empty chatter and the opposing arguments of what is falsely called "knowledge"-

21 which some have professed and thus gone astray from the faith.
