1 Und Salomo gedachte, dem Namen Jehovas ein Haus zu bauen und ein Haus für sein Königtum.2 Und Salomo zählte siebzigtausend Lastträger ab, und achtzigtausend Steinhauer im Gebirge, und dreitausend sechshundert Aufseher über dieselben.3 Und Salomo sandte zu Huram, dem König von Tyrus, und ließ ihm sagen: So wie du meinem Vater David getan und ihm Zedern gesandt hast, daß er sich ein Haus baue, um darin zu wohnen, so tue auch mir.4 Siehe, ich will dem Namen Jehovas, meines Gottes, ein Haus bauen, um es ihm zu heiligen, wohlriechendes Räucherwerk vor ihm zu räuchern, und um das beständige Schichtbrot zuzurichten und Brandopfer morgens und abends zu opfern, an den Sabbathen und an den Neumonden und an den Festen Jehovas, unseres Gottes; ewiglich liegt dies Israel ob.5 Und das Haus, das ich bauen will, soll groß sein; denn unser Gott ist größer als alle Götter.6 Aber wer vermöchte ihm ein Haus zu bauen? Denn die Himmel und der Himmel Himmel können ihn nicht fassen. Und wer bin ich, daß ich ihm ein Haus bauen sollte, es sei denn, um vor ihm zu räuchern?7 Und nun sende mir einen Mann, der zu arbeiten versteht in Gold und in Silber, und in Erz und in Eisen, und in rotem Purpur und Karmesin und blauem Purpur, und kundig ist, Schnitzarbeit zu machen, nebst den Kunstverständigen, die bei mir in Juda und in Jerusalem sind, die mein Vater David bestellt hat.8 Und sende mir Zedern-,Zypressen-und Sandelholz vom Libanon; denn ich weiß, daß deine Knechte das Holz des Libanon zu hauen verstehen; und siehe, meine Knechte sollen mit deinen Knechten sein.9 Und man möge mir Holz bereiten in Menge; denn das Haus, das ich bauen will, soll groß und außerordentlich sein.10 Und siehe, ich werde deinen Knechten, den Holzhauern, die das Holz fällen, ausgeschlagenen Weizen geben, zwanzigtausend Kor, und zwanzigtausend Kor Gerste, und zwanzigtausend Bath Wein, und zwanzigtausend Bath Öl.11 Und Huram, der König von Tyrus, antwortete schriftlich und sandte an Salomo folgende Botschaft: Weil Jehova sein Volk liebt, hat er dich zum König über sie gesetzt.12 Und Huram sprach: Gepriesen sei Jehova, der Gott Israels, der Himmel und Erde gemacht hat, daß er dem König David einen weisen Sohn gegeben, voll Einsicht und Verstand, der Jehova ein Haus bauen will und ein Haus für sein Königtum!13 Und nun sende ich einen kunstverständigen, einsichtsvollen Mann, Huram-Abi,14 den Sohn eines Weibes von den Töchtern Dans, und dessen Vater ein Tyrer war, der zu arbeiten weiß in Gold und Silber, in Erz, in Eisen, in Steinen und in Holz, in rotem Purpur, in blauem Purpur und in Byssus und in Karmesin, und allerlei Schnitzarbeit zu machen, und allerlei Kunstwerk zu ersinnen, das ihm aufgegeben wird, nebst deinen Kunstverständigen und den Kunstverständigen meines Herrn David, deines Vaters.15 Und nun, den Weizen und die Gerste, das Öl und den Wein, wovon mein Herr gesprochen hat, möge er seinen Knechten senden.16 Wir aber werden Holz hauen vom Libanon nach all deinem Bedarf, und werden es dir als Flöße auf dem Meere nach Japho bringen; und du magst es nach Jerusalem hinaufschaffen.17 Und Salomo zählte alle Fremdlinge, die im Lande Israel waren, nach der Zählung, welche sein Vater David von ihnen gemacht hatte; und es fanden sich hundertdreiundfünfzigtausend sechshundert.18 Und er machte aus ihnen siebzigtausend zu Lastträgern, und achtzigtausend zu Steinhauern im Gebirge, und dreitausend sechshundert zu Aufsehern, um das Volk zur Arbeit anzuhalten.

Solomon Gathers Building Materials for the Temple

1 s Solomon ordered a temple to be built to honor the Lord, as well as a royal palace for himself.t

2 Solomon hadt 70,000 common laborerst and 80,000 stonecutterst in the hills, in addition to 3,600 supervisors.st
3 Solomon sent a message to King Huramt of Tyre:s “Help met as you did my father David, when you sent him cedar logst for the construction of his palace.t4 Look, I am ready to build a temple to honort the Lord my God and to dedicate it to him in order to burn fragrant incense before him, to set out the bread that is regularly displayed,t and to offer burnt sacrifices each morning and evening, and on Sabbaths, new moon festivals, and at other times appointed by the Lord our God. This is something Israel must do on a permanent basis.t5 I will build a great temple, for our God is greater than all gods.

6 Of course, who can really build a temple for him, since the skyt and the highest heavens cannot contain him? Who am I that I should build him a temple! It will really be only a place to offer sacrifices before him.t
7 “Now send me a man who is skilled in working with gold, silver, bronze, and iron, as well as purple, crimson, and violet colored fabrics, and who knows how to engrave. He will work with my skilled craftsmen here in Jerusalems and Judah, whom my father David provided.8 Send me cedars, evergreens, and algumt trees from Lebanon, for I know your servants are adeptt at cutting down trees in Lebanon. My servants will work with your servants9 to supply me with large quantities of timber, for I am building a great, magnificent temple.

10 Look, I will pay your servants who cut the timber 20,000 korss of ground wheat, 20,000 kors of barley, 120,000 gallonst of wine, and 120,000 gallons of olive oil.”
11 King Huramt of Tyre sent this letter to Solomon: “Because the Lord loves his people, he has made you their king.”12 Huram also said, “Worthy of praise is the Lord God of Israel, who made the sky and the earth! He has given David a wise son who has discernment and insight and will build a temple for the Lord, as well as a royal palace for himself.t13 Now I am sending you Huram Abi,s a skilled and capable man,14 whose mother is a Danite and whose father is a Tyrian.t He knows how to work with gold, silver, bronze, iron, stones, and wood, as well as purple, violet, white, and crimson fabrics. He knows how to do all kinds of engraving and understands any design given to him. He will work with your skilled craftsmen and the skilled craftsmen of my lord David your father.15 Now let my lord send to his servants the wheat, barley, olive oil, and wine he has promised;

16 we will get all the timber you need from Lebanont and bring itt in raft-like bundlest by sea to Joppa. You can then haul it on up to Jerusalem.”
17 Solomon took a censust of all the male resident foreigners in the land of Israel, after the census his father David had taken. There were 153,600 in all.

18 He designatedt 70,000 as common laborers,t 80,000 as stonecutterst in the hills, and 3,600 as supervisors to make sure the people completed the work.t
