2 Korintiërs 1

1 Van Paulus.
Ek is deur Christus Jesus as 'n apostel aangestel. My aanstelling dra ook God se goedkeuring weg. Timoteus, een van my helpers en ons broer in die Here, stuur groete vir julle.
Ek skryf aan almal van julle in die kerk in Korinte. Ja, en ook aan almal wat deel van God se kerk is in die res van die Romeinse provinsie Agaje.
2 God ons Vader en die Here Jesus Christus gee aan julle almal genade en vrede.
3  Aan God, die Vader van ons Here Jesus Christus, kom al die eer toe. As ons Vader oorstroom Hy ons met sy goedheid. As ons God troos Hy ons.4 Hy staan by ons en help ons in al ons krisisse. Daarom kan ons ander mense help en troos wanneer hulle swaarkry. Ons kan presies dieselfde troos met hulle deel as wat God met ons gedeel het.
5 Net soos Christus vroeër gely het, ly ons nou ook. Ons kry regtig baie swaar omdat ons sy volgelinge is. Maar gelukkig oorlaai Christus ons elke dag met sy goedheid en met sy troos.
6 Ek het al dikwels swaargekry omdat ek in Christus glo, maar Hy het my nog elke keer daardeur gehelp. Daarom kan ek julle nou troos wanneer julle swaarkry. Ek kan julle help om aan te hou glo. Wanneer ek God se troos ervaar, deel ek dit ook met julle terwyl julle dapper dieselfde soort lyding as ek ervaar. Natuurlik twyfel ek nie vir 'n enkele oomblik dat julle sal aanhou glo nie.7 Ek weet dat julle dieselfde lyding as ek ervaar. Maar ek weet ook dat julle dieselfde troos as ek van God ontvang.
8 Weet julle, ek het onlangs in Asië baie gely ter wille van my geloof. Dit was verskriklik. Ek is so erg mishandel dat ek dit later nie meer kon uithou nie.9 Dit het gevoel of 'n doodsvonnis oor my uitgespreek is. Maar ek het toe 'n baie belangrike les geleer. Ek het geleer om te bly vashou aan God wat selfs die dooies lewendig kan maak.10 Uiteindelik het Hy my uit daardie lewensgevaarlike situasie gered. Daarom weet ek met alles in my dat God my vorentoe weer sal red wanneer ek in gevaar verkeer. Hy sal my elke keer help wanneer ek in die nood is.
11 Bid asseblief vir ons. Daarsonder kan ons glad nie ons werk vir die Here doen nie. Julle gebede maak dat baie ander mense ook begin bid. Hulle sal vir God dankie sê omdat Hy ons met sy hemelse gawes toegerus het sodat ons die goeie nuus aan hulle kan bekendmaak. Op hierdie manier werk al julle gebede mee aan die uitdra van die evangelie.
12  Ek is trots daarop dat ek opreg optree teenoor almal, ook teenoor julle. God self stel my in staat om sonder vals motiewe op te tree. Hiervan is ek absoluut oortuig. Ek hou my nie met allerhande slimpraatjies besig nie. Nee, ek is heeltemal afhanklik van God se goedheid.
13 In my briewe skryf ek oor sake wat julle maklik kan verstaan. Daarom glo ek julle sal verstaan dat julle baie trots op my kan wees wanneer ons almal saam op die laaste dag voor die Here Jesus staan. Natuurlik sal ek op daardie dag ook baie trots op julle wees.14 Gelukkig verstaan julle darem nou al so 'n ietsie van hierdie goeie nuus.
15 Omdat ek so trots op julle is, het ek vroeër besluit om eerste na julle toe te kom voordat ek Masedonië toe gaan.16 Later op pad terug van daar af sou ek dan 'n tweede maal by julle kom oorbly het. So sou julle sommer twee keer deel kon hê in al die wonderlike hemelse geskenke wat God vir my gegee het. Boonop sou julle my tydens my tweede besoek kon help met al my voorbereidings vir my reis na Judea. Ongelukkig het hierdie planne toe nie so uitgewerk nie.
17 Miskien dink julle by julleself: "Daardie Paulus sê een ding, maar doen iets anders. Hy belowe hy kom ons besoek, maar dan daag hy nie op nie." Het ek sommer uit my eie hierdie besluite geneem, sonder om eers te vra wat God se wil is?18 Is ek 'n regte jabroer wat die een ding sê en 'n ander ding doen? Nee, glad nie. God weet ek praat die waarheid met julle.19 Julle weet ook dat ek julle nie bedrieg het toe ek en Silvanus en Timoteus vroeër daar by julle gewerk het nie. Ons het mos nie die een dag een ding gesê en die volgende dag iets anders kwytgeraak nie. Ons het net met julle oor Jesus Christus, die Seun van God, gepraat.20 Hy is die bewys dat God getrou is. Christus sê nooit een ding en doen dan iets anders nie. Hy maak al God se beloftes in die Bybel waar. Hierop kan ons almal net "ja en amen" sê, of hoe? En wanneer ons dit doen, word God se Naam grootgemaak.
21 God het ons almal saam stewig in Christus geanker. Hy is die fondament op wie ons lewe gebou is. God het ons ook met sy groot krag toegerus en ons eenkant gesit sodat ons Hom voltyds kan dien. Hy het boonop sy amptelike stempel op ons lewe geplaas as die bewys dat ons aan Hom behoort. Dit is die Heilige Gees.22 God het die Heilige Gees aan ons almal gegee as die deposito, die eerste betaling van sy kant af om ons te verseker dat sy nuwe wêreld op ons wag.
23  Kom ek sê reguit vir julle hoekom ek besluit het om nie Korinte toe te kom nie. Weet julle, ek wou julle 'n groot stuk hartseer spaar. Regtig! God weet dit. Julle geloof is in elk geval mos nie van my besoek afhanklik nie.24 Dit is regtig nie my werk om oor julle baas te speel deur vir julle voor te skryf presies hoe julle moet glo nie. Al wat ek wil doen, is om te help dat julle geloof 'n nog groter vreugde word.

Salutation

1 From Paul,t an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and Timothy our brother, to the church of God that is in Corinth,s with all the saints who are in all Achaia.t

2 Grace and peace to yout from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ!

Thanksgiving for God’s Comfort

3 Blessed ist the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort,4 who comforts us in all our troublest so that we may be able to comfort those experiencing any troublet with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.5 For just as the sufferingst of Christt overflowt toward us, so also our comfort through Christ overflows to you.t6 But if we are afflicted,t it is for your comfort and salvation; if we are comforted, it is for your comfort that you experience in your patient endurance of the same sufferings that we also suffer.7 And our hope for you is steadfast because we know that as you share int our sufferings, so also you will share int our comfort.8 For we do not want you to be unaware, brothers and sisters,t regarding the affliction that happened to us in the province of Asia,t that we were burdened excessively, beyond our strength, so that we despaired even of living.9 Indeed we felt as if the sentence of death had been passed against us,t so that we would not trust in ourselvest but in God who raises the dead.10 Het delivered us from so great a risk of death, and he will deliver us. We have set our hope on himt thats he will deliver us yet again,

11 as you also join in helping us by prayer, so that many people may give thanks to Godt on our behalf for the gracious gift given to us through the help of many.

Paul Defends His Changed Plans

12 For our reason for confidencet is this: the testimony of our conscience, that with pure motivesst and sincerity which are from Godt – not by human wisdomt but by the grace of God – we conducted ourselves in the world, and all the moret toward you.13 For we do not write you anything other than whatt you can read and also understand. But I hope that you will understand completelyt14 just as also you have partly understood us, that we are your source of pride just as you also are ourst in the day of the Lord Jesus.s15 And with this confidence I intended to come to you first so that you would get a second opportunity to see us,t16 and through your help to go on into Macedonia and then from Macedonia to come backt to you and be helped on our way into Judea by you.17 Therefore when I was planning to do this, I did not do so without thinking about what I was doing, did I?t Or do I make my planst according to mere human standardst so that I would be sayingt both “Yes, yes” and “No, no” at the same time?18 But as God is faithful, our message to you is not “Yes” and “No.”19 For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, the one who was proclaimed among you by us – by me and Silvanuss and Timothy – was not “Yes” and “No,” but it has always been “Yes” in him.20 For every one of God’s promises are “Yes” in him; therefore also through him the “Amen” is spoken, to the glory we give to God.21 But it is God who establishest us together with you in Christ and who anointed us,t

22 who also sealed us and gave us the Spirit in our hearts as a down payment.ts
23 Now I appeal to God as my witness,t that to sparet you I did not come again to Corinth.ss24 I do not mean that we rule over your faith, but we are workers with you for your joy, because by faith you stand firm.t
