2 Korintiërs 10

Paulus sê hoekom die mense in Korinte hom moet glo

1 Ek weet julle dink dat wanneer ek by julle is, dan raas ek nie met julle nie, maar wanneer ek weg is, dan is ek kwaai met julle. Nou vra ek, Paulus, baie mooi vir julle, en ek vra dit omdat Christus ’n sagte hart het en omdat Hy goed is. 2 Ek vra: Wanneer ek weer na julle toe kom, dan moet julle nie dinge doen wat my baie kwaai laat word nie. Want ek sal kwaai wees met die mense wat dink dat ons soos twêreldse mense lewe. 3 Ja, ons lewe op die aarde, maar wanneer ons veg teen tdie duiwel, dan doen ons dit nie soos wêreldse mense nie. 4 Nee, ons veg met wapens, maar dit is nie wapens van die wêreld nie. Hierdie wapens het baie krag omdat dit God se wapens is, ons kan die vyand se sterk mure afbreek met daardie wapens. Ons breek die vyand se slim woorde af. 5 Mense dink dinge wat keer sodat hulle nie vir God kan leer ken nie, en hulle is trots wanneer hulle so dink. Maar ons breek alles af wat hulle dink. Ja, ons maak tgevangenes van alles wat mense dink sodat die mense gehoorsaam kan wees aan Christus.

6 Ons wil almal straf wat nie gehoorsaam is aan Christus nie. Maar ons sal dit eers doen wanneer julle heeltemal gehoorsaam is aan Christus.
7 Julle moet goed dink hieroor. As een van julle seker is dat hy aan Christus behoort, dan moet hy onthou dat ons ook, soos hy, aan Christus behoort. 8 Die Here het gesê ons moet julle geloof sterk maak, Hy het nie gesê ons moet julle laat ophou glo nie. Julle dink miskien dat ek te veel spog oor wat die Here gesê het ons mag doen. Maar dit is regtig so, die Here hét vir ons gesê ons moet julle geloof sterk maak. En ek is nie skaam daaroor nie.

9 Julle moenie dink dat ek probeer om julle bang te maak in my briewe nie.
10 Want miskien is daar mense wat sê: “Paulus se briewe is baie ernstig en kwaai, maar wanneer hy self hier by ons is, dan lyk hy nie so kwaai nie en dan praat hy nie soos ’n tapostel moet praat nie.”

11 Mense wat so sê, moet weet: Wanneer ons nie by julle is nie, dan skryf ons in ons briewe wat ons sal doen, en ons sál dit doen wanneer ons by julle is, ons sal party mense straf.
12 Ons sal nooit dink dat ons so goed is soos party mense in die gemeente nie, mense wat wil hê dat ons vir hulle moet glo. Hierdie mense kyk net na hulleself en dan dink hulle dat hulle goed is. En daarom verstaan hulle niks. 13 Maar ons sal nie spog oor iets waaroor ons nie mag spog nie. Ons sal net spog oor wat God vir ons gesê het om te doen, en dit is om ook by julle te werk in Korinte. 14 Ek spog nie wanneer ek sê dat ons tot by julle gekom het nie. Ons hét by julle gekom en ons hét die goeie boodskap van Christus gebring. 15 Ons spog nie oor werk wat ander mense gedoen het nie, ons spog nie oor werk wat ons nie self gedoen het nie. Ons hoop en weet dat julle geloof sterker sal word, en dat ons dan nog meer en meer sal werk in julle stad, die stad waar God gesê het ons moet werk.

16 Ons wil die goeie boodskap graag ook op ander plekke bring, plekke verder as Korinte. Maar ons wil nie spog oor die goeie werk wat ander mense al klaar daar gedoen het nie.

17  tAs ’n mens wil spog,
dan moet hy oor die Here spog.
18 Want die Here aanvaar nie mense wat self sê dat ons hulle moet glo nie. Die Here sê vir ons wie ons moet glo, en Hy aanvaar net daardie mense.

Paul Speaks Up for Himself

1 Christ is gentle and free of pride. So I make my appeal to you. I, Paul, am the one you call shy when I am face to face with you. But when I am away from you, you call me bold.2 I beg you that when I come I won't have to be as bold as I expect to be toward some people. They think that I live the way the people of this world live.
3 I do live in the world. But I don't fight my battles the way the people of the world do.4 The weapons I fight with are not the weapons the world uses. In fact, it is just the opposite. My weapons have the power of God to destroy the camps of the enemy.
5 I destroy every claim and every reason that keeps people from knowing God. I keep every thought under control in order to make it obey Christ.6 Until you have obeyed completely, I will be ready to punish you every time you don't obey.
7 You are looking only at what appears on the surface of things. Suppose you are sure you belong to Christ. Then you should consider again that I belong to Christ just as much as you do.
8 Do I brag too much about the authority the Lord gave me? If I do, it's because I want to build you up, not pull you down. And I'm not ashamed of that kind of bragging.
9 Don't think that I'm trying to scare you with my letters.10 Some say, "His letters sound important. They are powerful. But in person he doesn't seem like much. And what he says doesn't amount to anything."11 People like that have a lot to learn. What I say in my letters when I'm away from you, I will do in my actions when I'm with you.
12 I don't dare to compare myself with those who praise themselves. I'm not that kind of person. They measure themselves by themselves. They compare themselves with themselves. When they do that, they are not wise.
13 But I won't brag more than I should. Instead, I will brag only about what I have done in the area God has given me. It is an area that reaches all the way to you.14 I am not going too far in my bragging. I would be going too far if I hadn't come to where you live. But I did get there with the good news about Christ.
15 And I won't brag about work done by others. If I did, I would be bragging more than I should. As your faith continues to grow, I hope that my work among you will greatly increase.16 Then I will be able to preach the good news in the areas beyond you. I don't want to brag about work already done in someone else's territory.
17 But, "The one who brags should brag about what the Lord has done." (Jeremiah 9:24)18 Those who praise themselves are not accepted. Those the Lord praises are accepted.
