III. NUEVA DEFENSA DE PABLO (10.1–13.10)
Respuesta a la acusación de doblez
1 Yo, Pablo, os ruego, por la ternura y la bondad de Cristo. Se dice que cuando estoy entre vosotros soy muy tímido, y muy atrevido cuando estoy lejos.t 2 Pues bien, os ruego que cuando vaya a veros no me obliguéis a ser atrevido con quienes nos acusan de hacer las cosas por motivos puramente humanos. ¡Estoy dispuesto a enfrentarme con ellos!t 3 Es cierto que somos humanos, pero no luchamos como los hombres de este mundo. 4 Las armas que usamos no son las del mundo, sino que son poder de Dios capaz de destruir fortalezas. Y así destruimos las acusacionest 5 y toda altanería que pretenda impedir que se conozca a Dios. Todo pensamiento humano lo sometemos a Cristo, para que le obedezca,
6 y estamos dispuestos a castigar toda desobediencia, una vez que vosotros obedezcáis cabalmente.
7 Fijaos en lo que es evidente.t Si alguno está seguro de ser de Cristo, debe tener presente que también nosotros somos de Cristo. 8 Y aunque yo insista un poco más de la cuenta en nuestra autoridad, no tengo por qué avergonzarme, pues el Señor nos dio la autoridad para haceros crecer espiritualmente y no para destruiros.t 9 No quiero que parezca que trato de asustaros con mis cartas. 10 Hay quien dice que mis cartas son duras y fuertes, pero que en persona no impresiono a nadie ni impongo respeto al hablar.t
11 Pero el que esto dice debe saber también que, tal como somos con palabras y por carta estando lejos de vosotros, así seremos también con hechos cuando estemos entre vosotros.Respuesta a la acusación de altanería
12 Ciertamente, no nos atrevemos a igualarnos o a compararnos con esos que se alaban a sí mismos.t Pero ellos cometen una tontería al medirse con su propia medida y al compararse unos con otros. 13 Nosotros no vamos a gloriarnos más allá de ciertos límites. Dios es quien señaló los límites de nuestro campo de trabajo y quien nos permitió llegar hasta vosotros en Corinto. 14 Por eso, no nos estamos saliendo de nuestros límites, como sería el caso si no hubiéramos estado antes entre vosotros. Nosotros fuimos los primeros en llevaros la buena noticia acerca de Cristo.t 15 Y no presumimos con trabajos hechos por otros y saliéndonos de nuestros límites. Al contrario, esperamos poder trabajar más entre vosotros conforme vayáis teniendo más fe, aunque siempre dentro de esos límites nuestros.
16 También esperamos extendernos y anunciar el evangelio en otros lugares más allá de Corinto; pero sin meternos en campo ajeno, para no gloriarnos de trabajos hechos por otros.t
17 Quien quiera gloriarse, que se gloríe del Señor.t 18 Porque el hombre digno de aprobación no es el que se alaba a sí mismo, sino aquel a quien el Señor alaba.t
2 Corinthians 10
Paul’s Authority from the Lord
1 Now I, Paul, appeal to yout personallyt by the meekness and gentlenesst of Christ (I who am meekt when present amongt you, but am full of couraget toward you when away!) –2 now I ask that when I am present I may not have to be bold with the confidence that (I expect) I will dare to use against some who consider us to be behavingt according to human standards.t3 For though we livet as human beings,t we do not wage war according to human standards,t4 for the weapons of our warfare are not human weapons,t but are made powerful by Godt for tearing down strongholds.s We tear down argumentst5 and every arrogant obstaclet that is raised up against the knowledge of God, and we take every thought captive to make it obeyt Christ.6 We are also ready to punish every act of disobedience,t whenever your obedience is complete.7 You are looking at outward appearances.t If anyone is confident that he belongs to Christ, he should reflect on this again: Just as he himself belongs to Christ, so too do we.8 For if I boast somewhat more about our authority that the Lord gave ust for building you up and not for tearing you down, I will not be ashamed of doing so.t9 I do not want to seem as though I am trying to terrify you with my letters,10 because some say, “His letters are weighty and forceful, but his physical presence is weakt and his speech is of no account.”t
11 Let such a person consider this: What we sayt by letters when we are absent, we also are in actions when we are present.
Paul’s Mission
12 For we would not dare to classify or compare ourselves with some of those who recommend themselves. But when they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they are without understanding.t13 But we will not boast beyond certain limits,t but will confine our boastingt according to the limits of the work to which God has appointed us,t that reaches even as far as you.14 For we were not overextending ourselves, as though we did not reach as far as you, because we were the first to reach as far as you with the gospel about Christ.t15 Nor do we boast beyond certain limitst in the workt done by others, but we hopet that as your faith continues to grow, our work may be greatly expandedt among you according to our limits,t16 so that we may preach the gospel in the regions that lie beyond you, and not boast of work already done in another person’s area.17 But the one who boasts must boast in the Lord.ts
18 For it is not the person who commends himself who is approved, but the person the Lord commends.
