Deuxième lettre aux Corinthiens 5
1 Nous savons, en effet, que si la tente dans laquelle nous vivons – c’est-à-dire notre corps terrestre – est détruite, Dieu nous réserve une habitation dans les cieux, une demeure non faite par les hommes, qui durera toujours. 2 Et nous gémissons maintenantt, car notre désir est grand d’être recouverts de notre habitation céleste ; 3 en effet, nous serons vêtus et non pas nust. 4 Oui, aussi longtemps que nous vivons dans cette tente terrestre, nous gémissons comme sous un fardeau. Ce n’est pas que nous voudrions être débarrassés de notre corps terrestre, mais nous souhaitons être revêtus du corps céleste, afin que ce qui est mortel soit absorbé par la vie.
5 C’est Dieu lui-même qui nous a destinés à cela, et il nous a accordé son Esprit comme garantie des biens qu’il nous réserve.
6 Nous sommes donc toujours pleins de courage. Nous savons que tant que nous demeurons dans ce corps, nous sommes loin de la demeure du Seigneur 7 – nous marchons en effet par la foi et non par la vue –. 8 Nous sommes pleins de courage et nous préférerions quitter ce corps pour aller demeurer auprès du Seigneur. 9 Mais nous désirons avant tout lui plaire, que nous demeurions dans ce corps ou que nous le quittions.
10 Car nous devons tous comparaître devant le Christ pour être jugés par lui ; alors chacun recevra ce qui lui revient, selon ce qu’il aura fait en bien ou en mal durant sa vie terrestret.Réconciliés avec Dieu par le Christ
11 Nous savons ce que signifie respecter le Seigneur et nous cherchons donc à convaincre les hommes. Dieu nous connaît parfaitement et j’espère que, au fond de vous-mêmes, vous me connaissez aussi. 12 Nous ne voulons pas de nouveau nous recommander nous-mêmes auprès de vous, mais nous désirons vous donner l’occasion d’être fiers de nous ; ainsi, vous aurez de quoi répondre à ceux qui se vantent de détails extérieurs et non de ce qui est dans le cœur. 13 S’il est vrai que nous sommes insensés, c’est pour Dieu que nous le sommes ; mais si nous sommes dans notre bon sens, c’est pour vous. 14 En effet, l’amour du Christ nous domine, nous qui avons la certitude qu’un seul est mort pour tous et, donc, que tous ont part à sa mort.
15 Il est mort pour tous afin que ceux qui vivent ne vivent plus pour eux-mêmes, mais pour celui qui est mort et revenu à la vie pour eux.
16 Voilà pourquoi nous ne considérons plus personne d’une manière purement humaine. Même si, autrefois, nous avons considéré le Christ d’une manière humaine, maintenant nous ne le considérons plus ainsi. 17 Dès que quelqu’un est uni au Christ, il est un être nouveau : ce qui est ancien a disparu, ce qui est nouveau est là. 18 Tout cela vient de Dieu, qui nous a réconciliés avec lui par le Christ et qui nous a confié la tâche d’amener d’autres hommes à la réconciliation avec lui.
19 Car, par le Christ, Dieu agissait pour réconcilier tous les humains avec luit, sans tenir compte de leurs fautes. Et il nous a chargés d’annoncer cette œuvre de réconciliation.
20 Nous sommes donc des ambassadeurs envoyés par le Christ, et c’est comme si Dieu lui-même vous adressait un appel par nous : nous vous en supplions, au nom du Christ, laissez-vous réconcilier avec Dieu. 21 Le Christ était sans péché, mais Dieu l’a chargé de notre péché, afin que, par lui, nous ayons part à l’œuvre salutaire de Dieu.
2 Corinthians 5
1 For we know that if the earthly house of our tabernacle be dissolved, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal, in the heavens.2 For verily in this we groan, longing to be clothed upon with our habitation which is from heaven:3 if so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked.4 For indeed we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened; not for that we would be unclothed, but that we would be clothed upon, that what is mortal may be swallowed up of life.5 Now he that wrought us for this very thing is God, who gave unto us the earnest of the Spirit.6 Being therefore always of good courage, and knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord7 (for we walk by faith, not by sight);8 we are of good courage, I say, and are willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be at home with the Lord.9 Wherefore also we make it our aim, whether at home or absent, to be well-pleasing unto him.10 For we must all be made manifest before the judgment-seat of Christ; that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he hath done, whether it be good or bad.11 Knowing therefore the fear of the Lord, we persuade men, but we are made manifest unto God; and I hope that we are made manifest also in your consciences.12 We are not again commending ourselves unto you, but speak as giving you occasion of glorying on our behalf, that ye may have wherewith to answer them that glory in appearance, and not in heart.13 For whether we are beside ourselves, it is unto God; or whether we are of sober mind, it is unto you.14 For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that one died for all, therefore all died;15 and he died for all, that they that live should no longer live unto themselves, but unto him who for their sakes died and rose again.16 Wherefore we henceforth know no man after the flesh: even though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now we know him so no more.17 Wherefore if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature: the old things are passed away; behold, they are become new.18 But all things are of God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ, and gave unto us the ministry of reconciliation;19 to wit, that God was in Christ reconciling the world unto himself, not reckoning unto them their trespasses, and having committed unto us the word of reconciliation.20 We are ambassadors therefore on behalf of Christ, as though God were entreating by us: we beseech you on behalf of Christ, be ye reconciled to God.21 Him who knew no sin he made to be sin on our behalf; that we might become the righteousness of God in him.
