1 Infatti, noi sappiamo che, quando questa tenda in cui abitiamo adesso sarà disfatta, intendo dire quando moriremo e lasceremo questo corpo, in cielo avremo un corpo nuovo e meraviglioso, una casa che sarà nostra per sempre, fatta per noi da Dio stesso, e non da mano d’uomo.2 In questa tenda, che è il nostro corpo, ci lamentiamo, desiderando con tutto noi stessi di avere quella casa del cielo, un corpo nuovo che indosseremo proprio come un vestito nuovo.3 Sempre che, quando Cristo tornerà, ci trovi ancora vestiti del nostro corpo, e non nudi.4 In questo corpo umano ci lamentiamo, oppressi da un grande peso, ma non per questo ci attira l’idea di morire e rimanere senza corpo. Vogliamo, invece, avere un altro corpo nuovo con cui rivestirci, in modo che quanto c’è di mortale in noi sia assorbito dalla vita eterna.5 Dio ci ha preparati per questo e, come anticipo di tutto ciò, ci ha dato il suo Spirito Santo.6 Quindi aspettiamo sempre con fiducia, consapevoli del fatto che ogni momento che passiamo in questo corpo umano, è tempo trascorso lontano dal Signore.7 E per fede sappiamo che queste cose sono vere, non perché le abbiamo viste.8 Però abbiamo fiducia, e non abbiamo paura di morire, anzi, ne siamo contenti, perché così saremo vicini al Signore.9 Perciò, il nostro scopo è di fare sempre ciò che piace a Dio, non importa dove siamo, sia in questo corpo, che lontano da questo corpo, col Signore in cielo.10 Perché tutti noi dobbiamo presentarci davanti al tribunale di Cristo per essere giudicati; e ciascuno di noi riceverà ciò che si merita, secondo il bene o il male che ha fatto nella sua vita.

Ambasciatori di Cristo.

11 Per questo profondo timore di Dio, che è sempre presente in noi, ci diamo tanto da fare per convincere gli altri. Dio che ci conosce a fondo sa che siamo sinceri, e spero che anche voi ne siate convinti nel profondo della vostra coscienza.12 Non pensate che questo sia un modo per crescere d’importanza ai vostri occhi; vi offriamo, invece, l’occasione di essere fieri di noi e di poter rispondere come si deve a quei vostri predicatori che si vantano tanto delle apparenze, ma non si preoccupano della sostanza.13-14 Ci comportiamo forse come dei pazzi (a parlare così di noi stessi)? In tal caso, è per portare gloria a Dio. Se, invece, ci comportiamo da persone sagge, lo facciamo a vostro vantaggio. Qualsiasi cosa facciamo, non è davvero per il nostro interesse, ma perché adesso ci guida l’amore di Cristo. Poiché crediamo che Cristo è morto per tutti noi, dobbiamo anche credere che noi siamo morti rispetto alla vecchia vita che prima conducevamo.15 Gesù morì per tutti in modo che tutti quelli che vivono, dopo aver ricevuto da lui la vita eterna, non vivano più per se stessi, per il proprio piacere, ma consacrino la loro vita per piacere a Cristo, che è morto e risorto per loro.16 Perciò, d’ora innanzi, smettiamola di valutare gli altri con la mentalità di questo mondo o secondo le apparenze. E se qualche volta, per sbaglio, abbiamo considerato Cristo in questo modo, da un punto di vista umano intendo, ora però non è più così!17 Se uno diventa cristiano, diventa una nuova creatura; le cose vecchie sono passate: tutto è diventato nuovo!18 E questo viene da Dio, che ci ha riconciliati con se stesso, grazie a ciò che ha fatto Gesù Cristo. Non solo, ma ha dato a noi il privilegio d’invitare tutti a far pace con lui.19 Infatti, Dio ha riconciliato con sé il mondo per mezzo di Cristo, senza addebitare agli uomini i loro peccati. Questo dunque è il meraviglioso messaggio che ci ha dato da comunicare agli altri!20 Quindi, noi siamo ambasciatori di Cristo, ed è come se Dio si servisse di noi per parlarvi. Vi supplichiamo, come se fosse Cristo stesso a supplicarvi, accettate l’amore che egli vi offre, fate pace con Dio!21 Dio ha riversato su Cristo i nostri peccati, su di lui che non ha mai peccato, affinché, per mezzo suo, diventassimo giusti.

2 Corinthians 5

1 For we know that if the earthly house of our tabernacle be dissolved, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal, in the heavens.2 For verily in this we groan, longing to be clothed upon with our habitation which is from heaven:3 if so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked.4 For indeed we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened; not for that we would be unclothed, but that we would be clothed upon, that what is mortal may be swallowed up of life.5 Now he that wrought us for this very thing is God, who gave unto us the earnest of the Spirit.6 Being therefore always of good courage, and knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord7 (for we walk by faith, not by sight);8 we are of good courage, I say, and are willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be at home with the Lord.9 Wherefore also we make it our aim, whether at home or absent, to be well-pleasing unto him.10 For we must all be made manifest before the judgment-seat of Christ; that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he hath done, whether it be good or bad.11 Knowing therefore the fear of the Lord, we persuade men, but we are made manifest unto God; and I hope that we are made manifest also in your consciences.12 We are not again commending ourselves unto you, but speak as giving you occasion of glorying on our behalf, that ye may have wherewith to answer them that glory in appearance, and not in heart.13 For whether we are beside ourselves, it is unto God; or whether we are of sober mind, it is unto you.14 For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that one died for all, therefore all died;15 and he died for all, that they that live should no longer live unto themselves, but unto him who for their sakes died and rose again.16 Wherefore we henceforth know no man after the flesh: even though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now we know him so no more.17 Wherefore if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature: the old things are passed away; behold, they are become new.18 But all things are of God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ, and gave unto us the ministry of reconciliation;19 to wit, that God was in Christ reconciling the world unto himself, not reckoning unto them their trespasses, and having committed unto us the word of reconciliation.20 We are ambassadors therefore on behalf of Christ, as though God were entreating by us: we beseech you on behalf of Christ, be ye reconciled to God.21 Him who knew no sin he made to be sin on our behalf; that we might become the righteousness of God in him.
