2 Pedro 1

Saludo

1 Yo, Simón Pedro, siervo y apóstol de Jesucristo, envío un saludo a ustedes, que por la justicia de nuestro Dios y Salvador Jesucristo han alcanzado una fe tan preciosa como la nuestra.2 Que la gracia y la paz les sea multiplicada por medio del conocimiento de Dios y de nuestro Señor Jesús.

Partícipes de la naturaleza divina

3 Todas las cosas que pertenecen a la vida y a la piedad nos han sido dadas por su divino poder, mediante el conocimiento de aquel que nos llamó por su gloria y excelencia.4 Por medio de ellas nos ha dado preciosas y grandísimas promesas, para que por ellas ustedes lleguen a ser partícipes de la naturaleza divina, puesto que han huido de la corrupción que hay en el mundo por causa de los malos deseos.5 Por eso, ustedes deben esforzarse por añadir virtud a su fe, conocimiento a su virtud,6 dominio propio al conocimiento; paciencia al dominio propio, piedad a la paciencia,7 afecto fraternal a la piedad, y amor al afecto fraternal.8 Si todo esto abunda en ustedes, serán muy útiles y productivos en el conocimiento de nuestro Señor Jesucristo.9 Quien no tiene todo esto es corto de vista, o ciego, y ha olvidado que sus antiguos pecados fueron limpiados.10 Por eso, hermanos, procuren fortalecer su llamado y elección. Si hacen esto, jamás caerán.11 De esta manera se les abrirán de par en par las puertas del reino eterno de nuestro Señor y Salvador Jesucristo.

12 Por esta razón siempre habré de recordarles estas cosas, aun cuando ya las sepan y estén firmemente afianzados en la verdad que han recibido.13 Mientras yo tenga vida, es mi obligación animarlos y recordarles todo esto,14 pues sé que pronto tendré que abandonar este cuerpo, tal y como nuestro Señor Jesucristo me lo ha hecho saber.15 También debo esforzarme para que después de mi partida ustedes puedan tener siempre presentes todas estas cosas.

Testigos presenciales de la gloria de Cristo

16 Porque, cuando les hicimos saber que nuestro Señor Jesucristo vendrá con todo su poder, no lo hicimos siguiendo fábulas artificiosas, sino como quienes han visto su majestad con sus propios ojos.17 Pues cuando él recibió de Dios Padre la honra y la gloria, desde la magnífica gloria le fue enviada una voz que decía: «Éste es mi Hijo amado, en quien me complazco.»18 Y nosotros oímos esa voz que venía del cielo, mientras estábamos con él en el monte santo.t19 Además, contamos con la muy confiable palabra profética, a la cual ustedes hacen bien en atender, que es como una antorcha que alumbra en la oscuridad, hasta que aclare el día y el lucero de la mañana salga en el corazón de ustedes.20 Pero antes que nada deben entender esto: Ninguna profecía de la Escritura es de interpretación privada,21 porque la profecía nunca estuvo bajo el control de la voluntad humana, sino que los santos hombres de Dios hablaron bajo el control del Espíritu Santo.

2 I pray that God will be kind to you and will let you live in perfect peace! May you keep learning more and more about God and our Lord Jesus.

Living as the Lord's //Followers

4 God made great and marvelous promises, so his nature would become part of us. Then we could escape our evil desires and the corrupt influences of this world.
5 Do your best to improve your faith by adding goodness, understanding, 6 self-control, patience, devotion to God, 7 concern for others, and love. 8 If you keep growing in this way, it will show that what you know about our Lord Jesus Christ has made your lives useful and meaningful.

9 But if you don't grow, you are like someone who is nearsighted or blind, and you have forgotten that your past sins are forgiven.
10 My friends, you must do all you can to show God has really chosen and selected you. If you keep on doing this, you won't stumble and fall.

11 Then our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will give you a glorious welcome into his kingdom that will last forever.
12 You are holding firmly to the truth you were given. But I am still going to remind you of these things. 13 In fact, I think I should keep on reminding you until I leave this body. 14 And our Lord Jesus Christ has already told me that I will soon leave it behind.

15 This is why I am doing my best to make sure that each of you remembers all of this after I am gone.

The Message about the Glory //of Christ

18 We were there with Jesus on the holy mountain and heard this voice speak from heaven.
19 All of this makes us even more certain that what the prophets said is true. So you should pay close attention to their message, as you would to a lamp shining in some dark place. You must keep on paying attention until daylight comes and the morning star rises in your hearts. 20 But you need to realize that no one alone can understand any of the prophecies in the Scriptures. 21 The prophets did not think these things up on their own, but they were guided by the Spirit of God.
