Los falsos maestros

1 Hubo también falsos profetas entre el pueblo de Israel; y así habrá falsos maestros entre ustedes. Ellos enseñarán con disimulo sus dañinas ideas, negando de ese modo al propio Señor que los redimió; esto les atraerá una rápida condenación.2 Muchos los seguirán en su vida viciosa, y por causa de ellos se hablará mal del camino de la verdad.3 En su ambición de dinero, los explotarán a ustedes con falsas enseñanzas; pero la condenación los espera a ellos sin remedio, pues desde hace mucho tiempo están sentenciados.4 Dios no perdonó a los ángeles que pecaron, sino que los arrojó al infierno y los dejó en tinieblas, encadenados y guardados para el juicio.5 Ni tampoco perdonó Dios al mundo antiguo, sino que mandó el diluvio sobre aquellos hombres malos, y salvó solamente a Noé, que predicó una vida de rectitud, y a otras siete personas.6 Dios también condenó a la destrucción a las ciudades de Sodoma y Gomorra, quemándolas hasta dejarlas hechas cenizas, para que sirvieran de ejemplo de lo que habría de suceder a los malvados.7 Pero libró a Lot, un hombre justo a quien afligía la vida viciosa de aquellos malvados.8 Este hombre justo que vivía entre ellos, sufría en su buen corazón a causa de las maldades que día tras día tenía que ver y oír.9 El Señor sabe librar de la prueba a los que viven entregados a él, y sabe tener a los malos bajo castigo para el día del juicio.10 El Señor castigará sobre todo a los que siguen deseos impuros y desprecian su autoridad. Son tercos y atrevidos, y no tienen miedo de insultar a los poderes superiores;11 en cambio, los ángeles, aunque tienen más fuerza y autoridad, no se atreven, de parte del Señor, a condenar con insultos a esos poderes.12 Esos hombres son como los animales: no tienen entendimiento, viven sólo por instinto y nacen para que los atrapen y los maten. Hablan mal de cosas que no entienden; pero morirán de la misma manera que los animales,13 sufriendo por lo que han hecho sufrir a otros. Se creen felices entregándose al libertinaje en pleno día. ¡Son una vergüenza y un escándalo cuando los acompañan a ustedes en sus fiestas, divirtiéndose con sus placeres engañosos!14 No pueden ver a una mujer sin desearla; no se cansan de pecar. Seducen a las almas débiles; son expertos en la avaricia; son gente maldita.15 Andan perdidos, porque se han desviado del camino recto. Siguen el ejemplo del profeta Balaam, hijo de Bosor, que quiso ganar dinero haciendo el mal16 y fue reprendido por su pecado: una asna muda le habló con voz humana y no lo dejó seguir con su locura.17 Esos maestros son como pozos sin agua, como nubes llevadas por el viento; están condenados a pasar la eternidad en la más negra oscuridad.18 Dicen cosas altisonantes y vacías, y con vicios y deseos humanos seducen a quienes a duras penas logran escapar de los que viven en el error.19 Les prometen libertad, siendo ellos mismos esclavos de la corrupción; porque todo hombre es esclavo de aquello que lo ha dominado.20 Pues los que han conocido a nuestro Señor y Salvador Jesucristo, y han escapado así de las impurezas del mundo, si se dejan enredar otra vez en esas cosas y son dominados por ellas, quedan peor que antes.21 Hubiera sido mejor para ellos no haber conocido el camino recto que, después de haberlo conocido, apartarse del santo mandamiento que les fue dado.22 Pero en ellos se ha cumplido la verdad de aquel dicho: «El perro vuelve a su vómito», y también lo de «La puerca recién bañada vuelve a revolcarse en el lodo.»

1 But there arose false prophets also among the people, as among you also there shall be false teachers, who shall privily bring in destructive heresies, denying even the Master that bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction.2 And many shall follow their lascivious doings; by reason of whom the way of the truth shall be evil spoken of.3 And in covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose sentence now from of old lingereth not, and their destruction slumbereth not.4 For if God spared not angels when they sinned, but cast them down to hell, and committed them to pits of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;5 and spared not the ancient world, but preserved Noah with seven others, a preacher of righteousness, when he brought a flood upon the world of the ungodly;6 and turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, having made them an example unto those that should live ungodly;7 and delivered righteous Lot, sore distressed by the lascivious life of the wicked8 (for that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their lawless deeds):9 the Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptation, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment unto the day of judgment;10 but chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of defilement, and despise dominion. Daring, self-willed, they tremble not to rail at dignities:11 whereas angels, though greater in might and power, bring not a railing judgment against them before the Lord.12 But these, as creatures without reason, born mere animals to be taken and destroyed, railing in matters whereof they are ignorant, shall in their destroying surely be destroyed,13 suffering wrong as the hire of wrong-doing; men that count it pleasure to revel in the day-time, spots and blemishes, revelling in their deceivings while they feast with you;14 having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; enticing unstedfast souls; having a heart exercised in covetousness; children of cursing;15 forsaking the right way, they went astray, having followed the way of Balaam the son of Beor, who loved the hire of wrong-doing;16 but he was rebuked for his own transgression: a dumb ass spake with man’s voice and stayed the madness of the prophet.17 These are springs without water, and mists driven by a storm; for whom the blackness of darkness hath been reserved.18 For, uttering great swelling words of vanity, they entice in the lusts of the flesh, by lasciviousness, those who are just escaping from them that live in error;19 promising them liberty, while they themselves are bondservants of corruption; for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he also brought into bondage.20 For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein and overcome, the last state is become worse with them than the first.21 For it were better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after knowing it, to turn back from the holy commandment delivered unto them.22 It has happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog turning to his own vomit again, and the sow that had washed to wallowing in the mire.
