1 Paulus, Silvanus og Timoteus hilser menigheten i Tessalonika, som har sitt liv i Gud, vår Far, og Herren Jesus Kristus. t
2 Nåde være med dere og fred fra Gud Fader og Herren Jesus Kristus!tDommen ved Herrens gjenkomst
3 Vi må alltid takke Gud for dere, brødre. Det er bare hva rett er, for troen vokser stadig hos dere, og den innbyrdes kjærlighet blir større hos hver og en av dere. t 4 Derfor kan vi med stolthet tale om dere i de andre Guds menigheter på grunn av den utholdenhet og tro dere viser midt i alle de forfølgelser og trengsler dere må tåle. t 5 Dette er et varsel om Guds rettferdige dom. Når den kommer, skal dere finnes verdige til å få Guds rike, som dere nå lider for. t 6 For dette er rettferdig i Guds øyne: Dem som volder dere trengsler, skal han gi trengsler til gjengjeld, 7 og dere som lider trengsler, skal han gi lindring sammen med oss. Slik skal det gå til når Herren Jesus åpenbarer seg fra himmelen sammen med sine engler i makt og velde. t 8 Han kommer med flammende ild og fører straff over dem som ikke kjenner Gud og som ikke er lydige mot vår Herre Jesu evangelium. t 9 Deres straff blir en evig fortapelse borte fra Herrens ansikt og fra hans herlighet og makt, t
10 den dag han kommer for å bli lovprist blant sine hellige og bli hyllet blant alle som tror. Og dere har trodd det vitnesbyrd vi brakte dere.t
11 Derfor ber vi alltid for dere at vår Gud må gjøre dere verdige til det kall dere har fått, gi dere en hel og full vilje til det gode og med sin makt fullføre troens gjerning hos dere. 12 Da skal vår Herre Jesu navn bli æret hos dere, og dere skal få del i hans ære, i kraft av vår Guds og Herren Jesu Kristi nåde.t

Thanksgiving
3 We ought to thank God always for you, brothers and sisters,t and rightly so,t because your faith flourishes more and more and the love of each one of you all for one another is ever greater.
4 As a result we ourselves boast about you in the churches of God for your perseverance and faith in all the persecutions and afflictions you are enduring.
Encouragement in Persecution
5 This is evidence of God’s righteous judgment, to make you worthyt of the kingdom of God, for which in fact you are suffering.6 For it is rightt for God to repay with affliction those who afflict you,7 and to you who are being afflicted to give rest together with us when the Lord Jesus is revealedt from heaven with his mighty angels.t8 With flaming fire he will mete outtpunishment on those who do not know Gods and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.9 Theyt will undergo the penalty of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his strength,ts10 when he comes to be glorified among his saints and admiredt on that day among all who have believed – and you did in fact believe our testimony.t11 And in this regard we pray for you always, that our God will make you worthy of his callingt and fulfill by his power your every desire for goodness and every work of faith,
12 that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according tot the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.
