1 Paulus og Silvanus og Timotheus til de Thessalonikers Menighed, i Gud vor Fader den Herre Jesus Christus:2 Naade være med Eder og Fred fra Gud vor Fader og den Herre Jesus Christus!3 Vi ere Skyldige altid at takke Gud vor Eder, Brødre! som tilbørligt er, fordi Eders Tro voxer kraftigen, og Kjærligheden formeres hos enhver af Eder alle mod hverandre,4 saa at vi selv rose os af Eder i Guds Menigheder formedelst Eders Taalmodighed og tro under alle Eders Forfølgelser og Trængsler, som i Fordrage,5 et Beviis paa Guds retfærdige Dom: at I skulle agtes værdige til Guds Rige, for hvilket I og lide;6 efterdi det er retfærdigt for Gud at gengjælde dem Trængsel, som trænge Eder,7 men Eder, som trænges, Ro med os, i den Herres Jesu Aabenbarelse af Himmelen med sin Magts Engle,8 men Ildslue, naar han bringer Hevn over dem, som ikke kjende Gud, og over dem, som ikke er vor Herres Jesu Christi Evangelium lydige;9 hvilke skulle lide Straf, en evig Fortabelse fra Herrens Ansigt og fra hans Magts Herlighed,10 naar han kommer paa hiin Dag, at herliggjøres i sine Hellige beundres i dem, som troe; thi vort Vidnesbyrd er blevet troet hos Eder.11 Derfor bede vi ogsaa altid for Eder, at vor Gud vil agte Eder sit Kald værdige med Kraft fuldkomme al ham velbehagelig Godhed og Troens Gjerning,12 paa det vor Herres Jesu Christi Navn maa herliggjøres i Eder, og I udi ham, efter vor Guds og den Herrens Jesu Christi Naade.

Thanksgiving
3 We ought to thank God always for you, brothers and sisters,t and rightly so,t because your faith flourishes more and more and the love of each one of you all for one another is ever greater.
4 As a result we ourselves boast about you in the churches of God for your perseverance and faith in all the persecutions and afflictions you are enduring.
Encouragement in Persecution
5 This is evidence of God’s righteous judgment, to make you worthyt of the kingdom of God, for which in fact you are suffering.6 For it is rightt for God to repay with affliction those who afflict you,7 and to you who are being afflicted to give rest together with us when the Lord Jesus is revealedt from heaven with his mighty angels.t8 With flaming fire he will mete outtpunishment on those who do not know Gods and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.9 Theyt will undergo the penalty of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his strength,ts10 when he comes to be glorified among his saints and admiredt on that day among all who have believed – and you did in fact believe our testimony.t11 And in this regard we pray for you always, that our God will make you worthy of his callingt and fulfill by his power your every desire for goodness and every work of faith,
12 that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according tot the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.
