II TIMÓTHEÜS 1

Opskrif en seëngroet.

1 PAULUS, ’n apostel van Jesus Christus tdeur die wil van God, ooreenkomstig tdie belofte van die lewe wat in Christus Jesus is,

2 aan tTimótheüs, tmy geliefde kind: Genade, barmhartigheid, vrede van God die Vader en Christus Jesus, onse Here!

Liefde van Paulus vir Timótheüs. Vermaning om standvastig te wees in die geloof en in die bediening.

3 EK dank God, wat ek tvan my voorouers af in t’n rein gewete dien, wanneer tek onophoudelik nag en dag aan jou in my gebede dink,

4  tterwyl ek verlang om jou te sien as ek aan jou trane dink, sodat ek met blydskap vervul kan word,

5 en as ek my herinner die tongeveinsde geloof wat in jou is, wat eers gewoon het in jou grootmoeder Loïs en in jou tmoeder Eunice, en wat — daarvan is ek oortuig — ook in jou is.

6 Om hierdie rede herinner ek jou daaraan om tdie genadegawe van God aan te wakker twat in jou is tdeur die oplegging van my hande.

7 Want God het ons nie ’n gees van vreesagtigheid gegee nie, maar tvan krag en liefde en tselfbeheersing.

8  tSkaam jou dan nie oor tdie getuienis van onse Here of oor my, sy gevangene nie, maar tly saam verdrukkinge vir die evangelie na die krag van God

9 wat ons gered en tgeroep het met ’n theilige roeping, tnie volgens ons werke nie, maar tvolgens sy eie voorneme en tgenade wat ons tvan ewigheid af in Christus Jesus geskenk is,

10 maar twat nou geopenbaar is deur die verskyning van ons Verlosser, Jesus Christus, twat die dood tot niet gemaak het en die lewe en die onverderflikheid aan die lig gebring het deur die evangelie,

11  twaarvoor ek aangestel is as prediker en apostel en leraar van die heidene.

12  tOm hierdie rede ly ek ook hierdie dinge; maar tek skaam my nie, twant ek weet in wie ek geglo het, en ek is oortuig dat Hy mag het om my pand te bewaar tot tdié dag toe.

13  tHou as voorbeeld van tgesonde woorde tdié wat jy van my gehoor het, tin die geloof en liefde wat in Christus Jesus is.

14 Bewaar jou goeie pand deur die Heilige Gees twat in ons woon.

15 Jy weet dit dat almal wat in Asië is, thulle van my afgekeer het, onder wie Figéllus en Hermógenes is.

16 Mag die Here aan tdie huis van Onesíforus barmhartigheid bewys, want hy het my dikwels verkwik en hom oor tmy kettings nie geskaam nie;

17 maar toe hy in Rome gekom het, het hy my baie ywerig gesoek en gevind.
18 Mag die Here hom skenk dat hy barmhartigheid mag verkry van die Here in tdié dag! En jy weet baie goed hoeveel dienste hy in Éfese bewys het.

2 Timothy 1

1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ through the will of God, according to the promise of the life which is in Christ Jesus,

2 to Timothy, my beloved child: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.
3 I thank God, whom I serve as my forefathers did, with a pure conscience. How unceasing is my memory of you in my petitions, night and day4 longing to see you, remembering your tears, that I may be filled with joy;

5 having been reminded of the sincere faith that is in you; which lived first in your grandmother Lois, and your mother Eunice, and, I am persuaded, in you also.
6 For this cause, I remind you that you should stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands.7 For God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control.8 Therefore don’t be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner; but endure hardship for the Good News according to the power of God,9 who saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given to us in Christ Jesus before times eternal,10 but has now been revealed by the appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus, who abolished death, and brought life and immortality to light through the Good News.11 For this, I was appointed as a preacher, an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles.

12 For this cause I also suffer these things.
Yet I am not ashamed, for I know him whom I have believed, and I am persuaded that he is able to guard that which I have committed to him against that day.
13 Hold the pattern of sound words which you have heard from me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.

14 That good thing which was committed to you, guard through the Holy Spirit who dwells in us.
15 This you know, that all who are in Asia turned away from me; of whom are Phygelus and Hermogenes.16 May the Lord grant mercy to the house of Onesiphorus, for he often refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chain,17 but when he was in Rome, he sought me diligently, and found me

18 (the Lord grant to him to find the Lord’s mercy in that day); and in how many things he served at Ephesus, you know very well.
