Deuxième lettre à Timothée 1
Salutation
1 De la part de Paul, apôtre de Jésus-Christ par la volonté de Dieu, chargé d’annoncer la vie qui nous est promise grâce à Jésus-Christ.
2 A Timothéet, mon cher fils : Que Dieu le Père et Jésus-Christ notre Seigneur t’accordent la grâce, le pardon et la paix.Reconnaissance et encouragement à la fidélité
3 Je remercie Dieu, que je sers avec une conscience pure comme mes ancêtres l’ont faitt. Je le remercie lorsque, sans cesse, jour et nuit, je pense à toi dans mes prières. 4 Je me rappelle tes larmest, et je désire beaucoup te revoir afin d’être rempli de joie. 5 Je garde le souvenir de la foi sincère qui est la tienne, cette foi qui anima ta grand-mère Loïs et ta mère Eunice avant toi. Je suis persuadé qu’elle est présente en toi aussi. 6 C’est pourquoi, je te le rappelle : maintiens en vie le don que Dieu t’a accordé quand j’ai posé les mains sur toi.
7 Car l’Esprit que Dieu nous a donné ne nous rend pas timides ; au contraire, cet Esprit nous remplit de force, d’amour et de maîtrise de soi.
8 N’aie donc pas honte de rendre témoignage à notre Seigneur ; n’aie pas honte non plus de moi, prisonnier pour luit. Au contraire, accepte de souffrir avec moi pour la Bonne Nouvelle, en comptant sur la force que Dieu donne. 9 C’est lui qui nous a sauvés et nous a appelés à être son peuple, non à cause de nos bonnes actions, mais à cause de son propre plan et de sa grâce. Il nous a accordé cette grâce par Jésus-Christ avant tous les temps,
10 mais il nous l’a manifestée maintenant par l’apparition de notre Sauveur Jésus-Christ. C’est lui qui a mis fin au pouvoir de la mort et qui, par la Bonne Nouvelle, a révélé la vie immortelle.
11 Dieu m’a chargé de proclamer cette Bonne Nouvelle en tant qu’apôtre et enseignantt,
12 et c’est pour cela que je subis ces souffrances. Mais je suis sans crainte, car je sais en qui j’ai mis ma confiance et je suis convaincu qu’il a le pouvoir de garder jusqu’au jour du Jugement ce qu’il m’a confiét.
13 Prends comme modèle les paroles véritables que je t’ai communiquées, tiens bon dans la foi et l’amour que nous avons dans la communion avec Jésus-Christ.
14 Garde les bonnes instructions qui t’ont été confiées, avec l’aide du Saint-Esprit qui habite en nous.
15 Comme tu le sais, tous ceux de la province d’Asie m’ont abandonné, entre autres Phygèle et Hermogène. 16 Que le Seigneur traite avec bonté la famille d’Onésiphore, car il m’a souvent réconforté. Il n’a pas eu honte de moi qui suis en prison ; 17 au contraire, dès son arrivée à Rome, il m’a cherché avec zèle jusqu’à ce qu’il m’ait trouvé. 18 Que le Seigneur le fasse bénéficier de la bonté de Dieut au jour du Jugement. Tu connais très bien aussi tous les services qu’il m’a rendus à Éphèse.
2 Timothy 1
1 Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus through the will of God, according to the promise of the life which is in Christ Jesus,2 to Timothy, my beloved child: Grace, mercy, peace, from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.3 I thank God, whom I serve from my forefathers in a pure conscience, how unceasing is my remembrance of thee in my supplications, night and day4 longing to see thee, remembering thy tears, that I may be filled with joy;5 having been reminded of the unfeigned faith that is in thee; which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and, I am persuaded, in thee also.6 For which cause I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee through the laying on of my hands.7 For God gave us not a spirit of fearfulness; but of power and love and discipline.8 Be not ashamed therefore of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but suffer hardship with the gospel according to the power of God;9 who saved us, and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before times eternal,10 but hath now been manifested by the appearing of our Saviour Christ Jesus, who abolished death, and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel,11 whereunto I was appointed a preacher, and an apostle, and a teacher.12 For which cause I suffer also these things: yet I am not ashamed; for I know him whom I have believed, and I am persuaded that he is able to guard that which I have committed unto him against that day.13 Hold the pattern of sound words which thou hast heard from me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.14 That good thing which was committed unto thee guard through the Holy Spirit which dwelleth in us.15 This thou knowest, that all that are in Asia turned away from me; of whom are Phygelus and Hermogenes.16 The Lord grant mercy unto the house of Onesiphorus: for he oft refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chain;17 but, when he was in Rome, he sought me diligently, and found me18 (the Lord grant unto him to find mercy of the Lord in that day); and in how many things he ministered at Ephesus, thou knowest very well.
