Indirizzo e saluti

1 Paolo, apostolo di Cristo Gesú per volontà di Dio, secondo la promessa della vita che è in Cristo Gesú,

2 a Timoteo, mio caro figlio, grazia, misericordia, pace da Dio Padre e da Cristo Gesú nostro Signore.

Esortazione rivolta a Timoteo

3 Ringrazio Dio, che servo come già i miei antenati con pura coscienza, ricordandomi regolarmente di te nelle mie preghiere giorno e notte;4 ripenso alle tue lacrime e desidero intensamente vederti per essere riempito di gioia.

5 Ricordo infatti la fede sincera che è in te, la quale abitò prima in tua nonna Loide e in tua madre Eunice, e, sono convinto, abita pure in te.
6 Per questo motivo ti ricordo di ravvivare il dono di Dio che è in te mediante l'imposizione delle mie mani.7 Dio infatti ci ha dato uno spirito non di timidezza, ma di forza, d'amore e di autocontrollo.8 Non aver dunque vergogna della testimonianza del nostro Signore, né di me, suo carcerato; ma soffri anche tu per il vangelo, sorretto dalla potenza di Dio.9 Egli ci ha salvati e ci ha rivolto una santa chiamata, non a motivo delle nostre opere, ma secondo il suo proposito e la grazia che ci è stata fatta in Cristo Gesú fin dall'eternità,10 ma che è stata ora manifestata con l'apparizione del Salvatore nostro Cristo Gesú, il quale ha distrutto la morte e ha messo in luce la vita e l'immortalità mediante il vangelo,11 in vista del quale io sono stato costituito araldo, apostolo e dottore.

12 È anche per questo motivo che soffro queste cose; ma non me ne vergogno, perché so in chi ho creduto, e sono convinto che egli ha il potere di custodire il mio deposito fino a quel giorno.
13 Prendi come modello le sane parole che hai udite da me con la fede e l'amore che si hanno in Cristo Gesú.

14 Custodisci il buon deposito per mezzo dello Spirito Santo che abita in noi.
15 Tu sai questo: che tutti quelli che sono in Asia mi hanno abbandonato, tra i quali Figello ed Ermogene.16 Conceda il Signore misericordia alla famiglia di Onesiforo, perché egli mi ha molte volte confortato e non si è vergognato della mia catena;17 anzi, quando è venuto a Roma, mi ha cercato con premura e mi ha trovato.

18 Gli conceda il Signore di trovare misericordia presso di lui in quel giorno. Tu sai pure molto bene quanti servizi mi abbia reso a Efeso.

2 TIMOTHY 1

1 From Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus.
God himself chose me to be an apostle, and he gave me the promised life that Jesus Christ makes possible.

2  t Timothy, you are like a dear child to me. I pray that God our Father and our Lord Christ Jesus will be kind and merciful to you and will bless you with peace!

Do Not Be Ashamed //of the Lord

7 God's Spiritt doesn't make cowards out of us. The Spirit gives us power, love, and self-control.

8 Don't be ashamed to speak for our Lord. And don't be ashamed of me, just because I am in jail for serving him. Use the power that comes from God and join with me in suffering for telling the good news.

9 God saved us and chose us
to be his holy people.
We did nothing
to deserve this,
but God planned it
because he is so kind.
Even before time began
God planned for Christ Jesus
to show kindness to us.

10 Now Christ Jesus has come
to offer us God's gift
of undeserved grace.
Christ our Savior defeated death
and brought us
the good news.
It shines like a light
and offers life
that never ends.
11  t My work is to be a preacher, an apostle, and a teacher.t 12 This is why I am suffering now. But I am not ashamed! I know the one I have faith in, and I am sure he can guard until the last day what he has trusted me with.t 13 Now follow the example of the correct teaching I gave you, and let the faith and love of Christ Jesus be your model.

14 You have been trusted with a wonderful treasure. Guard it with the help of the Holy Spirit, who lives within us.

15 You know that everyone in Asia has turned against me, especially Phygelus and Hermogenes.
16 I pray that the Lord will be kind to the family of Onesiphorus. He often cheered me up and wasn't ashamed of me when I was put in jail. 17 Then after he arrived in Rome, he searched everywhere until he found me. 18 I pray that the Lord Jesus will ask God to show mercy to Onesiphorus on the day of judgment. You know how much he helped me in Ephesus.
