Ci aspettano momenti difficili…

1 Ora, sappi questo, Timòteo, che negli ultimi giorni ci saranno tempi difficili.2 Perché gli uomini saranno egoisti, presi dal denaro, vanitosi, arroganti, bestemmiatori, ribelli ai genitori, ingrati, senza religione,3 né sentimenti, sleali e maldicenti. Senza limiti ai piaceri, saranno crudeli, spietati e nemici del bene.4 Tradiranno i propri amici e litigheranno per un nonnulla; pieni d’orgoglio, a Dio preferiranno i piaceri della vita.5 Andranno, sì, in chiesa, ma in realtà non crederanno a niente di ciò che ascoltano. Stai lontano da gente del genere!6 Ce ne sono fra loro di quelli che s’intrufolano nelle case per circuire certe stupide donnette cariche di peccati e in balia di ogni sorta di passioni, per insegnare loro delle nuove dottrine.7 Donne di quello stampo sono sempre pronte a imparare, ma non arrivano mai alla verità.8 Questi « maestri » si oppongono alla verità, come i maghi egiziani Iannes e Iambres si opposero a Mosè. Sono uomini dalla mente bacata e non valgono niente in materia di fede.9 Ma non andranno molto lontano, perché un giorno la loro falsità sarà nota a tutti, come avvenne nel caso di Iannes e Iambres.10 Tu, invece, hai seguito da vicino il mio insegnamento, il mio modo di vivere, i miei progetti, la mia fede, la mia pazienza, il mio amore,11 la mia costanza, le persecuzioni e le sofferenze che mi toccarono ad Antiochia, Icònio e Listra. Sai bene quali persecuzioni ho dovuto sopportare, ma il Signore m’ha liberato da tutte!12 Si sa, tutti quelli che vogliono rimanere fedeli a Dio, uniti a Gesù Cristo, vivendo in modo pio, saranno perseguitati.13 Ma i malvagi e gl’impostori andranno di male in peggio, perché sono allo stesso tempo imbroglioni e imbrogliati.14 Tu, invece, rimani fedele a ciò che hai imparato. Sai bene che sono tutte cose vere, perché puoi fidarti di noi che te le abbiamo insegnate.15 Fin da bambino conosci le Sacre Scritture che possono darti quella saggezza che, per mezzo della fede in Gesù Cristo, porta alla salvezza.16 Tutto ciò che è scritto nella Bibbia è stato ispirato da Dio e serve ad insegnarci la verità, ci convince, ci corregge e ci aiuta a fare ciò che è giusto.17 In questo modo il credente viene perfezionato e preparato a fare opere buone.

2 Timothy 3

1 But know this, that in the last days grievous times shall come.2 For men shall be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, haughty, railers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,3 without natural affection, implacable, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, no lovers of good,4 traitors, headstrong, puffed up, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God;5 holding a form of godliness, but having denied the power therefore. From these also turn away.6 For of these are they that creep into houses, and take captive silly women laden with sins, led away by divers lusts,7 ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.8 And even as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also withstand the truth. Men corrupted in mind, reprobate concerning the faith.9 But they shall proceed no further. For their folly shall be evident unto all men, as theirs also came to be.10 But thou didst follow my teaching, conduct, purpose, faith, longsuffering, love, patience,11 persecutions, sufferings. What things befell me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured. And out of them all the Lord delivered me.12 Yea, and all that would live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.13 But evil men and impostors shall wax worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived.14 But abide thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them.15 And that from a babe thou hast known the sacred writings which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.16 Every scripture inspired of God is also profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for instruction which is in righteousness.17 That the man of God may be complete, furnished completely unto every good work.
