Hälsningar

1 Från ledaren Johannes, till min käre vän Gaius, som jag älskar med uppriktig kärlek.2 Käre vän, jag hoppas att allt står väl till med dig och att din kropp är lika frisk som din själ, för att din själ är frisk det vet jag.3 Jag blev mycket glad när jag hörde från några församlingsmedlemmar som hälsat på dig, att du troget håller fast vid det sanna budskapet om Jesus och lever efter det.

4 Inget gör mig gladare än att höra att mina barn följer det sanna budskapet.

Beröm och tillrättavisning

5 Käre vän, du visar dig trogen när du tar hand om de troende bröder som är på genomresa, ja, även sådana som du inte känner.6 De har berättat om din kärlek för alla i församlingen här. Du har också visat att du är värd att kallas Guds tjänare, eftersom du har gett dem vad de behövde för sin fortsatta resa.7 Det är ju för att sprida budskapet om Jesus som de har gett sig ut,t och de tar inte emot något från de människor de kommer till.t

8 Därför bör vi stödja dem, och på det sättet hjälpa till att sprida det sanna budskapet om Jesus.
9 Jag skickade ett brev till er församling om detta, men Diotrefes, som vill ta över ledningen där, vägrar att ha med oss att göra.

10 När jag kommer, ska jag därför ta upp hans sätt att sprida onda rykten om oss. Men han nöjer sig inte bara med detta, han vägrar också att ta emot de kringresande bröderna, och om någon annan vill ta emot dem, så hindrar han dem och utesluter dem ur församlingen.

11 Käre vän, låt dig inte påverkas av det onda, utan fortsätt att göra det som är gott. Den som gör det goda tillhör Gud, men den som gör det onda har aldrig förstått vem Gud är.

12 Alla berömmer Demetrios, och det är helt rätt, eftersom han handlar enligt det sanna budskapet om Jesus. Också vi berömmer honom, och du vet att vi talar sanning.

Avslutning

13 Jag har mycket att säga till dig, men jag vill inte göra det i ett brev.

14 Jag hoppas att snart få träffa dig, så att vi kan talas vid personligen.

15 Jag önskar dig frid ifrån Gud! De andra i församlingen hälsar till dig. Ge en personlig hälsning från mig till var och en av våra vänner.

3 John 1

Introduction and Thanksgiving

1 Fromt the elder,ts to Gaiuss my dear brother, whom I love in truth.t2 Dear friend, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, just as it is well with your soul.ts

3 For I rejoiced greatly when the brothers came and testified to your truth, just as you are living according to the truth.s

4 I have no greater joy than this: to heart that my children are living according to the truth.t

The Charge to Gaius

5 Dear friend,t you demonstrate faithfulnessts by whatever you do for the brothers (even though they are strangers).6 Theyt have testified to your love before the church.s You will do well to send them on their way in a manner worthy of God.s7 For they have gone forths on behalf of “The Name,”s accepting nothing from the pagans.ts

8 Therefore wes ought to support such people, so that we become coworkers in cooperation with the truth.t

Diotrephes the Troublemaker

9 I wrote something to the church,s but Diotrephes,s who loves to be first among them, does not acknowledge us.t10 Therefore, if I come,t I will call attention to the deeds he is doings – the bringing of unjustified charges against us with evil words! And not being content with that, he not only refuses to welcome the brothers himself, but hinders the people who want to do so and throws them out of the church!

11 Dear friend, do not imitate what is bad but what is good.s The one who does good is of God; the one who does what is bad has not seen God.s

Worthy Demetrius

12 Demetriuss has been testified to by all, even by the truth itself. We also testify to him,t and you know that our testimony is true.

Conclusion

13 I have many things to write to you, but I do not wish to write to you witht pen and ink.ts14 But I hope to see you right away, and we will speak face to face.t
