Troisième lettre de Jean 1
Salutation
1 Moi, l’ancien, j’écris à Gaïus, cet ami très cher que j’aime vraiment.
2 Ami très cher, je souhaite que tu te portes bien à tous points de vue. Ta vie chrétienne est bonne, je souhaite que ta santé soit aussi bonne.Gaïus vit dans la vérité
3 J’ai été très heureux quand des frères sont arrivés. En effet, ils ont rendu témoignage à la vérité qui est en toi : oui, tu vis dans la vérité.
4 Ma plus grande joie, c’est d’apprendre que mes enfants vivent dans la vérité.
5 Ami très cher, tu prends soin des chrétiens, et pourtant, ce sont des étrangers. Quand tu fais cela, tu agis comme un croyant. 6 Devant la communauté, ils ont rendu témoignage à ton amour. Aide-les dans leur voyage d’une façon qui plaise à Dieu. 7 En effet, c’est pour le nom du Christ qu’ils ont pris la route, et ils n’ont rien demandé à ceux qui ne connaissent pas Dieu.
8 Alors nous, nous devons aider ces frères et ces sœurs, pour travailler avec eux au service de la vérité.Les problèmes de la communauté
9 J’ai écrit une petite lettre à la communauté, mais Diotrèphe, qui aime passer devant les autres, n’accepte pas notre autorité.
10 C’est pourquoi, quand je viendrai, je parlerai de ce qu’il fait, de tout le mal qu’il dit contre nous. Et cela ne lui suffit pas : il refuse de recevoir les autres chrétiens. Et quand certains veulent les recevoir, il les empêche de le faire et il les chasse de la communauté.
11 Ami très cher, n’imite pas ce qui est mal, mais imite ce qui est bien. Celui qui fait le bien appartient à Dieu, celui qui fait le mal ne connaît pas Dieu.
12 Tout le monde rend un bon témoignage à Démétrius, la vérité elle-même parle pour lui. Nous aussi, nous lui rendons témoignage, et tu sais que notre témoignage est vrai.Salutations
13 J’ai beaucoup de choses à te dire, mais je ne veux pas le faire avec une plume et de l’encre.
14 J’espère te revoir bientôt, et nous parlerons face à face.

To my dear friend Gaius.
I love you because we follow the truth, 2 dear friend, and I pray all goes well for you. I hope you are as strong in body, as I know you are in spirit. 3 It makes me very happy when the Lord's followers come by and speak openly of how you obey the truth.
4 Nothing brings me greater happiness than to hear that my childrent are obeying the truth.Working Together
5 Dear friend, you have always been faithful in helping other followers of the Lord, even the ones you didn't know before. 6 They have told the church about your love. They say you were good enough to welcome them and to send them on their mission in a way God's servants deserve. 7 When they left to tell others about the Lord, they decided not to accept help from anyone who wasn't a follower.
8 We must support people like them, so we can take part in what they are doing to spread the truth.
9 I wrote to the church. But Diotrephes likes to be the number-one leader, and he won't pay any attention to us.
10 So if I come, I will remind him of how he has been attacking us with gossip. Not only has he been doing this, but he refuses to welcome any of the Lord's followers who come by. And when other church members want to welcome them, he puts them out of the church.
11 Dear friend, don't imitate the evil deeds of others, but follow the example of people who do kind deeds. They are God's children, but those who are always doing evil have never seen God.
12 Everyone speaks well of Demetrius, and so does the true message that he teaches. I also speak well of him, and you know what I say is true.Final Greetings
13 I have much more to say to you, but I don't want to write it with pen and ink.
14 I hope to see you soon, and then we can talk in person.
