Saludo

1 Del líder y encargado de la iglesia a mi querido amigo Gayo:

2 Amado hermano, le pido a Dios que te encuentres muy bien, y también le pido que te vaya bien en todo lo que hagas, y que tengas buena salud.

La buena conducta de Gayo

3 Algunos miembros de la iglesia vinieron y me contaron que sigues confiando en la verdad que Jesucristo nos enseñó. Eso me dio mucho gusto.

4 Nada me alegra más que saber que mis hijos t obedecen siempre a la verdad que Dios nos ha enseñado.
5 Querido hermano, tú te portas muy bien cuando ayudas a los otros seguidores de Cristo , especialmente a los que llegan de otros lugares.6 Ellos le han contado a toda la iglesia cuánto los amas. Por favor, ayúdalos en todo lo que necesiten para continuar su viaje. Hazlo de tal modo que resulte agradable a Dios.7 Ellos han comenzado a anunciar el mensaje de Jesucristo, y no han aceptado ninguna ayuda de los que no creen en Dios.

8 Por eso, debemos ayudarlos en este trabajo que han empezado, y también debemos hacernos cargo de ellos.

Diótrefes y Demetrio

9 Yo escribí una carta a la iglesia , pero Diótrefes no acepta mi autoridad, pues le gusta mandar.

10 Por eso, cuando yo vaya a visitarlos, le llamaré la atención, porque anda hablando mal de nosotros. Y no sólo eso, sino que tampoco recibe a los seguidores de Cristo que llegan de otras partes. Y si alguien quiere recibirlos en su casa, se lo prohíbe y lo echa de la iglesia.

11 Amado hermano Gayo, no sigas el ejemplo de los que hacen el mal, sino el ejemplo de los buenos. El que hace lo bueno es parte de la familia de Dios, pero el que hace lo malo nunca ha visto a Dios.

12 Todos hablan bien de Demetrio, y su comportamiento nos demuestra que dicen la verdad. También nosotros hablamos bien de él, y tú sabes que no mentimos.

Despedida

13 Tengo mucho más que decirte, pero prefiero no hacerlo por escrito,

14 porque espero ir pronto a verte, y entonces podremos hablar personalmente.

15 Que Dios te bendiga con su paz.

To my dear friend Gaius.
I love you because we follow the truth, 2 dear friend, and I pray all goes well for you. I hope you are as strong in body, as I know you are in spirit. 3 It makes me very happy when the Lord's followers come by and speak openly of how you obey the truth.

4 Nothing brings me greater happiness than to hear that my childrent are obeying the truth.

Working Together

8 We must support people like them, so we can take part in what they are doing to spread the truth.
9 I wrote to the church. But Diotrephes likes to be the number-one leader, and he won't pay any attention to us.

10 So if I come, I will remind him of how he has been attacking us with gossip. Not only has he been doing this, but he refuses to welcome any of the Lord's followers who come by. And when other church members want to welcome them, he puts them out of the church.

11 Dear friend, don't imitate the evil deeds of others, but follow the example of people who do kind deeds. They are God's children, but those who are always doing evil have never seen God.

12 Everyone speaks well of Demetrius, and so does the true message that he teaches. I also speak well of him, and you know what I say is true.
