سوم یوحنا 1
مقدّمه
1 از طرف یكی از رهبران كلیسا به «غایوس» عزیز كه واقعاً دوستش دارم.
2 ای عزیز، دعا میکنم كه روزگار بر وفق مراد تو باشد و همانطور كه در روح سالم هستی، از سلامتی بدن نیز برخوردار باشی. 3 وقتی بعضی از ایمانداران به اینجا آمدند و به من خبر دادند كه تو چقدر به حقیقت الهی وفادار هستی، یعنی چگونه مطابق حقیقت رفتار میکنی، خیلی خوشحال شدم.
4 هیچ چیز بیش از این مرا خوشحال نمیسازد كه بشنوم فرزندان من بر طبق حقیقت رفتار میکنند.همكاری و مخالفت
5 ای عزیز، از تمام كارهایی كه برای این ایمانداران انجام میدهی، هرچند آنها را نمیشناسی، معلوم میشود که با وفاداری كار میکنی. 6 آنها برای كلیسای اینجا از مهربانی تو تعریف کردهاند. اگر به طور خداپسندانه به آنها كمک كنی تا سفر خود را ادامه دهند، كاری نیكو کردهای. 7 زیرا آنها این سفر را به عنوان خدمتی به مسیح شروع کردهاند و از غیر مسیحیان كمک قبول نمیکنند.
8 پس ما مسیحیان موظّفیم، با پذیرایی از چنین اشخاص در انتشار حقیقت همكاری كنیم.
9 من نامهای مختصر به كلیسا نوشتم، امّا «دیوترفس» كه همیشه دوست دارد خود را جلو بیندازد و سخنان ما را قبول نمیکند.
10 وقتی بیایم كلیسا را از تمام كارهایی كه او كرده و تمام اتّهامات بیاساس و نادرستی که به ما زده است، مطّلع خواهم ساخت. او به این كارها اكتفا نكرده بلكه ایمانداران را نیز به خانهٔ خود راه نمیدهد و مانع میشود كه دیگران نیز از آنها پذیرایی كنند و اگر بعضیها چنین كنند، او آنان را از كلیسا بیرون میکند.
11 ای دوست عزیز، نیكویی را دنبال كن نه بدی را. شخص نیكوكار فرزند خداست، بدكار هرگز خدا را ندیده است.
12 همه از «دیمیتریوس» به نیكی سخن میگویند -حقیقت هم همین است- و ما نیز گفتار آنها را تأیید میکنیم و تو میدانی كه شهادت ما قابل اعتماد است.خاتمه
13 مطالب زیادی هست كه باید برای تو بنویسم، امّا نمیخواهم آن را با قلم و مركب روی كاغذ بیاورم. 14 امیدوارم تو را خیلی زود ببینم و روبهرو با هم صحبت كنیم. 15 صلح و آرامش از آن تو باد. دوستانت سلام میرسانند، به یکایک دوستان ما سلام برسان.

To my dear friend Gaius.
I love you because we follow the truth, 2 dear friend, and I pray all goes well for you. I hope you are as strong in body, as I know you are in spirit. 3 It makes me very happy when the Lord's followers come by and speak openly of how you obey the truth.
4 Nothing brings me greater happiness than to hear that my childrent are obeying the truth.Working Together
5 Dear friend, you have always been faithful in helping other followers of the Lord, even the ones you didn't know before. 6 They have told the church about your love. They say you were good enough to welcome them and to send them on their mission in a way God's servants deserve. 7 When they left to tell others about the Lord, they decided not to accept help from anyone who wasn't a follower.
8 We must support people like them, so we can take part in what they are doing to spread the truth.
9 I wrote to the church. But Diotrephes likes to be the number-one leader, and he won't pay any attention to us.
10 So if I come, I will remind him of how he has been attacking us with gossip. Not only has he been doing this, but he refuses to welcome any of the Lord's followers who come by. And when other church members want to welcome them, he puts them out of the church.
11 Dear friend, don't imitate the evil deeds of others, but follow the example of people who do kind deeds. They are God's children, but those who are always doing evil have never seen God.
12 Everyone speaks well of Demetrius, and so does the true message that he teaches. I also speak well of him, and you know what I say is true.Final Greetings
13 I have much more to say to you, but I don't want to write it with pen and ink.
14 I hope to see you soon, and then we can talk in person.
