Introdução

1 Do presbíterot, ao querido amigo Gaio, a quem eu amo na verdade.
2 Meu querido amigo, faço votos de que tudo esteja indo bem com você e que você esteja bem de saúde, assim como está bem espiritualmente.3 Eu fiquei muito feliz quando alguns irmãos chegaram e me contaram como você é fiel à verdade e como continua seguindo a verdade.

4 Não tenho maior alegria do que esta: ouvir que meus filhos seguem a verdade.
5 Querido amigo, você está sendo fiel ao fazer o que pode pelos irmãos, mesmo quando não os conhece.6 Estes irmãos testemunharam a respeito do seu amor diante da igreja. Por favor, ajude-os a continuar a viagem deles de um modo que agrade a Deus.7 Pois eles saíram de viagem para servir a Cristo e não aceitaram nada dos pagãos.

8 Portanto, nós devemos ajudar irmãos como estes, para que possamos trabalhar juntos pela verdade.
9 Escrevi uma carta à igreja, mas Diótrefes, que quer ser o líder entre os irmãos, não quer aceitar o que nós falamos.

10 Por isso, se eu for aí, vou lhe chamar a atenção a respeito de tudo o que ele está fazendo. Ele tem-me acusado falsamente, usando palavras maliciosas. Mas, não contente com isto, ele não somente se recusa a mostrar hospitalidade aos irmãos como também impede os que querem ser hospitaleiros, expulsando-os da igreja.

11 Querido amigo, não imite o que é mau, mas, sim, o que é bom. Aquele que faz o bem pertence a Deus e aquele que faz o mal jamais viu a Deus.

12 Quanto a Demétrio, todos falam bem dele, até a própria verdade. E nós também falamos e vocês sabem que o que nós falamos é verdadeiro.

13 Eu ainda tenho muitas outras coisas para lhe escrever; contudo não quero fazê-lo com caneta e tinta.14 Espero poder ir visitá-lo em breve e então poderemos conversar pessoalmente.

15 Que a paz esteja com você! Todos os seus amigos lhe mandam lembranças. Dê lembranças também, pessoalmente, a cada um dos nossos amigos.

You Walk in the Truth

1 The elder to the beloved Gaius, whom I love in truth.

2 Beloved, I pray that in all respects you may prosper and be in good health, just as your soul prospers.3 For I was very glad when brethren came and testified to your truth, that is, how you are walking in truth.4 I have no greater joy than this, to hear of my children walking in the truth.

5 Beloved, you are acting faithfully in whatever you accomplish for the brethren, and especially when they are strangers;6 and they have testified to your love before the church. You will do well to send them on their way in a manner worthy of God.7 For they went out for the sake of the Name, accepting nothing from the Gentiles.8 Therefore we ought to support such men, so that we may be fellow workers with the truth.

9 I wrote something to the church; but Diotrephes, who loves to be first among them, does not accept what we say.10 For this reason, if I come, I will call attention to his deeds which he does, unjustly accusing us with wicked words; and not satisfied with this, he himself does not receive the brethren, either, and he forbids those who desire to do so and puts them out of the church.

11 Beloved, do not imitate what is evil, but what is good. The one who does good is of God; the one who does evil has not seen God.12 Demetrius has received a good testimony from everyone, and from the truth itself; and we add our testimony, and you know that our testimony is true.

13 I had many things to write to you, but I am not willing to write them to you with pen and ink;14 but I hope to see you shortly, and we will speak face to face.
