Löftet om Guds heliga Ande. Jesus återvänder till himlen

1 I min första bokt berättade jag för dig om allt som Jesus gjorde och lärde

2-3 ända fram till den dag då han togs upp till himlen. Efter att han lidit och dött och sedan uppstått från de döda, visade han sig för de män som han utsett till sina speciella sändebudt och bevisade på många sätt för dem att han levde.Under 40 dagar visade han sig för dem och berättade om Guds plan att rädda människor och göra dem till sitt eget folk, och med Guds heliga Andes hjälp gav han dem sina befallningar.
4 Vid ett av dessa tillfällen, då han åt med sina sändebud, sa han till dem: "Lämna inte Jerusalem förrän min Far i himlen har sänt det som han har lovat, det som jag redan tidigare har talat med er om.

5 Johannes döparen döpte er med vatten, men om några få dagar ska ni bli döpta med Guds heliga Ande."
6 En annan gång när de var samlade frågade sändebuden Jesus: "Herre, är det nu du ska befria Israel och låta oss bli ett mäktigt land igen?"7 Han svarade då: "Den tidpunkten bestämmer min Far i himlen, det är inget som ni får veta.

8 Men när Guds heliga Ande kommer över er ska ni få kraft, och ni ska berätta för alla om mig, både i Jerusalem, i Judeen, i Samarien och ut över hela jorden."
9 Strax efteråt lyftes han upp mot himlen, och medan de stod och stirrade efter honom försvann han i ett moln.10 De försökte att få se ännu en skymt av honom, men då stod plötsligt två vitklädda män bland dem

11 och sa: "Ni män från Galileen, varför står ni här och tittar upp mot himlen? Jesus har tagits upp från er och återvänt till himlen, men en dag ska han komma tillbaka på samma sätt som han for upp!"

Mattias väljs till att ersätta Judas

12 När allt detta hände befann sig Jesus sändebud på Olivberget, som ligger knappt en kilometer från Jerusalem. Men nu återvände de till staden13 och gick upp till det rum på andra våningen där de brukade träffas. Det var Petrus, Johannes, Jakob, Andreas, Filippos, Tomas, Bartolomaios, Matteus, Jakob, son till Alfaios, Simon, som också kallades selotent, och Judas, son till Jakob.

14 Alla dessa bad ständigt tillsammans. Flera kvinnor, bland annat Maria, Jesus mamma, brukade också komma dit, liksom Jesus bröder.
15 Några dagar senare, när omkring 120 av Jesus efterföljare var samlade, reste sig Petrus upp och sa:16 "Kära syskon, redan för länge sedan förutsa Guds heliga Ande genom kung David vad som skulle hända med Judas, han som visade vägen för dem som arresterade Jesus. Och nu har det som var förutsagt i Skriftent blivit verklighet.t17 Som ni vet var Judas en av oss. Han var utsedd att vara Jesus speciella sändebud precis som vi.18 Men han blev en förrädare, och för de pengar han fick köpte han en åker, och där föll han framstupa så att hans kropp sprack och inälvorna rann ut.19 Nyheten om hans död spred sig snabbt bland alla människor i Jerusalem, och de kallade platsen Akeldamak på arameiskat, det betyder 'Blodsåkern'.

20 Och David skriver alltså i Psaltaren: 'Låt hans hem bli öde, ingen ska bo där mer', och: 'Låt hans uppgift tas över av någon annan.' t

21-22 Därför måste vi nu välja någon annan som kan ta Judas plats, någon som tillsammans med oss kan berätta om att Herren Jesus har uppstått från de döda. Låt oss välja en person som har varit med oss under hela den tid då vi var tillsammans med Herren, från den gången då han döptes av Johannes döparen, till den dag då han togs upp till himlen."
23 Man föreslog då två män: Josef Barsabbas, som också kallades Justus, och Mattias.24 Sedan bad hela gruppen: "Herre, du känner allas hjärtan. Visa oss vilken av de här två som du har utsett

25 till ditt sändebud istället för Judas, som svek sitt uppdrag och har gått till den plats där han hör hemma."

26 Sedan drog de lott, och på det sättet blev Mattias vald till sändebud tillsammans med de andra elva.

Acts 1

Jesus Ascends to Heaven

1 I wrotet the formert account,ts Theophilus,t about all that Jesus began to do and teach2 until the day he was taken up to heaven,t after he had given orderst byt the Holy Spirit to the apostles he had chosen.3 To the same apostlest also, after his suffering,s he presented himself alive with many convincing proofs. He was seen by them over a forty-day periodt and spoke about matters concerning the kingdom of God.4 While he was with them,t he declared,t “Do not leave Jerusalem,s but wait theret for what myt Father promised,t which you heard about from me.t

5 Fort John baptized with water, but yout will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”
6 So when they had gathered together, they began to ask him,t “Lord, is this the time when you are restoring the kingdom to Israel?”7 He told them, “You are not permitted to knowt the times or periods that the Father has set by his own authority.8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the farthest partst of the earth.”9 Aftert he had said this, while they were watching, he was lifted up and a cloud hid him from their sight.10 Ast they were still staring into the sky while he was going, suddenlyt two men in white clothing stood near them

11 and said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand heret looking up into the sky? This same Jesus who has been taken up from you into heavenst will come back in the same way you saw him go into heaven.”

A Replacement for Judas is Chosen

12 Then they returned to Jerusalems from the mountaint called the Mount of Olivess (which is near Jerusalem, a Sabbath day’s journeys away).13 Whent they had entered Jerusalem,t they went to the upstairs room where they were staying. Peters and John, and James, and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot, and Judas son of James were there.t14 All these continued together in prayer with one mind, together with the women, along with Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers.s15 In those dayst Peter stood up among the believerst (a gathering of about one hundred and twenty people) and said,16 “Brothers,t the scripture had to be fulfilled that the Holy Spirit foretold throught David concerning Judas – who became the guide for those who arrested Jesus –17 for he was counted as one of us and received a share in this ministry.”t18 (Now this man Judast acquired a field with the reward of his unjust deed,t and falling headfirstt he burst open in the middle and all his intestinest gushed out.19 Thist became known to all who lived in Jerusalem, so that in their own languages they called that fieldtHakeldama, that is, “Field of Blood.”)20 “For it is written in the book of Psalms, ‘Let his house become deserted,tand let there be no one to live in it,’s and ‘Let another take his position of responsibility.’ts21 Thus one of the ment who have accompanied us during all the time the Lord Jesus associated witht us,22 beginning from his baptism by John until the day het was taken up from us – one of these must become a witness of his resurrection together with us.”23 So theys proposed two candidates:t Joseph called Barsabbas (also called Justus) and Matthias.24 Then they prayed,t “Lord, you know the hearts of all. Show us which one of these two you have chosen25 to assume the taskt of this servicet and apostleship from which Judas turned asidet to go to his own place.”s

26 Thent they cast lots for them, and the one chosen was Matthias;t so he was counted with the eleven apostles.t
