Apostelgeschichte 1

1 tLieber Theophilus! In meinem ersten Berichtt habe ich von allem geschrieben, was Jesus getan und gelehrt hat; und zwar von Anfang an2 tbis zu seiner Rückkehr zu Gott. Bevor aber Jesus in den Himmel aufgenommen wurde, gab er den Männern, die er als seine Apostel berufen hatte, durch den Heiligen Geist Anweisungen für die Zukunft.3 Diesen Männern hat er sich auch nach seinem Leiden und Sterben gezeigt und damit bewiesen, dass er tatsächlich auferstanden ist. Vierzig Tage lang sahen sie ihn, und er sprach mit ihnen über Gottes neue Welt.4 Als sie an einem dieser Tage miteinander aßen, sagte Jesus zu seinen Jüngern: »Verlasst Jerusalem nicht! Bleibt so lange hier, bis in Erfüllung gegangen ist, was euch der Vater durch mich versprochen hat.5 tDenn Johannes hat mit Wasser getauft; ihr aber werdet bald mit dem Heiligen Geist getauft werden.«

Jesus kehrt zu Gott zurück

6 Bei dieser Gelegenheit fragten sie ihn: »Herr, wirst du jetzt Israel wieder zu einem freien und mächtigen Reich machen?«7 Darauf antwortete Jesus: »Die Zeit dafür hat allein Gott der Vater bestimmt. Euch steht es nicht zu, das zu wissen.8 tAber ihr werdet den Heiligen Geist empfangen und durch seine Kraft meine Zeugen sein in Jerusalem und Judäa, in Samarien und auf der ganzen Erde.«

9 tNachdem er das gesagt hatte, nahm Gott ihn zu sich. Eine Wolke verhüllte ihn vor ihren Augen, und sie sahen ihn nicht mehr.10 Noch während sie überrascht nach oben blickten, standen auf einmal zwei weiß gekleidete Männer bei ihnen.11 t»Ihr Galiläer«, sprachen sie die Jünger an, »was steht ihr hier und seht zum Himmel? Gott hat Jesus aus eurer Mitte zu sich in den Himmel genommen; aber eines Tages wird er genauso zurückkehren.«

Matthias wird zum Apostel gewählt

12 tDa gingen sie vom Ölberg nach Jerusalem zurück, das ungefähr einen Kilometer entfernt liegt.13 tSie kamen im oberen Stockwerk des Hauses zusammen, wo sie sich von nun an trafen. Es waren Petrus, Johannes, Jakobus, Andreas, Philippus, Thomas, Bartholomäus, Matthäus, Jakobus, der Sohn des Alphäus, Simon, der ehemalige Freiheitskämpfer, und Judas, der Sohn des Jakobus.14 tZu ihnen gehörten auch einige Frauen, unter anderem Maria, die Mutter Jesu, und außerdem seine Brüder. Sie alle trafen sich regelmäßig an diesem Ort, um gemeinsam zu beten.

15 An einem dieser Tage waren etwa hundertzwanzig Menschen dort zusammengekommen. Da stand Petrus auf und sagte:16 t»Liebe Brüder! Die Voraussage der Heiligen Schrift über Judas, der Jesus an seine Feinde verriet, musste sich erfüllen. Es ist so gekommen, wie es der Heilige Geist durch David vorhergesagt hat.17 tJudas gehörte zu uns, auch ihn hatte Jesus zu seinem Dienst berufen.18 tDoch Judas wurde zum Verräter. Von dem Geld, das er dafür bekam, kaufte er sich ein Stück Land. Aber er hat ein schreckliches Ende gefunden: Kopfüber stürzte er zu Tode, sein Körper wurde zerschmettert, so dass die Eingeweide heraustraten.19 Das weiß jeder in Jerusalem, und deshalb nennt man diesen Acker auf Aramäisch ›Hakeldamach‹, das heißt ›Blutacker‹.20 Schon in den Psalmen steht: ›Sein Besitz wird veröden, und niemand wird darin wohnen!‹t An einer anderen Stelle heißt es: ›Seine Aufgabe soll ein anderer übernehmen.‹t21 tDeshalb muss für Judas ein Nachfolger gefunden werden. Es muss ein Mann sein, der die ganze Zeit bei Jesus war;22 angefangen von dem Tag, an dem Jesus von Johannes getauft wurde, bis zu dem Tag, an dem Gott ihn zu sich nahm. Denn zusammen mit uns soll er bezeugen, dass Jesus auferstanden ist.«

23 Sie stellten zwei Männer zur Wahl: Josef Justus, der auch Barsabbas genannt wurde, und Matthias.24 Dann beteten sie alle: »Herr, du kennst jeden Menschen ganz genau. Zeig uns, welcher von diesen beiden nach deinem Willen25 den Dienst und das Apostelamt des Judas übernehmen soll. Denn Judas hat seinen Auftrag nicht erfüllt. Er ist jetzt an dem Platz, der ihm zukommt.«

26 Danach losten sie, und das Los fiel auf Matthias. Seit dieser Zeit gehörte er zu den zwölf Aposteln.

Acts 1

1 The former treatise I made, O Theophilus, concerning all that Jesus began both to do and to teach,2 until the day in which he was received up, after that he had given commandment through the Holy Spirit unto the apostles whom he had chosen:3 To whom he also showed himself alive after his passion by many proofs, appearing unto them by the space of forty days, and speaking the things concerning the kingdom of God:4 and, being assembled together with them, he charged them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, said he, ye heard from me:5 For John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized in the Holy Spirit not many days hence.6 They therefore, when they were come together, asked him, saying, Lord, dost thou at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know times or seasons, which the Father hath set within His own authority.8 But ye shall receive power, when the Holy Spirit is come upon you: and ye shall be my witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea and Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.9 And when he had said these things, as they were looking, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.10 And while they were looking stedfastly into heaven as he went, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;11 who also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye looking into heaven? this Jesus, who was received up from you into heaven shall so come in like manner as ye beheld him going into heaven.12 Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is nigh unto Jerusalem, a Sabbath day’s journey off.13 And when they were come in, they went up into the upper chamber, where they were abiding; both Peter and John and James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon the Zealot, and Judas the son of James.14 These all with one accord continued stedfastly in prayer, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.15 And in these days Peter stood up in the midst of the brethren, and said (and there was a multitude of persons gathered together, about a hundred and twenty),16 Brethren, it was needful that the Scripture should be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spake before by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who was guide to them that took Jesus.17 For he was numbered among us, and received his portion in this ministry.18 (Now this man obtained a field with the reward of his iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out.19 And it became known to all the dwellers at Jerusalem; insomuch that in their language that field was called Akeldama, that is, The field of blood.)20 For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation be made desolate, And let no man dwell therein: and, His office let another take.

21 Of the men therefore that have companied with us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and went out among us,22 beginning from the baptism of John, unto the day that he was received up from us, of these must one become a witness with us of his resurrection.23 And they put forward two, Joseph called Barsabbas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias.24 And they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, who knowest the hearts of all men, show of these two the one whom thou hast chosen,25 to take the place in this ministry and apostleship from which Judas fell away, that he might go to his own place.26 And they gave lots for them; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.
