Atti 1

1 Come indicato dall'autore stesso, gli Atti degli Apostoli costituiscono la continuazione del Vangelo di Luca e narrano gli avvenimenti successivi alla morte e all'ascensione di Gesù, vale a dire i primi anni della chiesa, con un particolare interesse per due degli apostoli: Pietro e Paolo. L'autore descrive la diffusione del vangelo, che raggiunse le estremità del mondo allora conosciuto, conformemente a quanto Gesù aveva ordinato ai suoi discepoli in 1:8, e conclude con la permanenza di Paolo a Roma (60-62/63 d.C.).

Introduzione. Ascensione di Gesù

2 fino al giorno che fu elevato in cielo, dopo aver dato mediante lo Spirito Santo delle istruzioni agli apostoli che aveva scelti.

3 Ai quali anche, dopo che ebbe sofferto, si presentò vivente con molte prove, facendosi vedere da loro per quaranta giorni, parlando delle cose relative al regno di Dio.
4 Trovandosi con essi, ordinò loro di non allontanarsi da Gerusalemme, ma di attendere l'attuazione della promessa del Padre, «la quale», egli disse, «avete udita da me.5 Perché Giovanni battezzò, sì con acqua, ma voi sarete battezzati in Spirito Santo fra non molti giorni».6 Quelli dunque che erano riuniti gli domandarono: «Signore, è in questo tempo che ristabilirai il regno a Israele?»7 Egli rispose loro: «Non spetta a voi sapere i tempi o i momenti che il Padre ha riservato alla propria autorità.

8 Ma voi riceverete potenza quando lo Spirito Santo verrà su di voi, e mi sarete testimoni in Gerusalemme, e in tutta la Giudea e Samaria, e fino all'estremità della terra».
9 Dette queste cose, mentre essi guardavano, fu elevato; e una nuvola, accogliendolo, lo sottrasse ai loro sguardi.10 E come essi avevano gli occhi fissi al cielo, mentre egli se ne andava, due uomini in vesti bianche si presentarono a loro e dissero:

11 «Uomini di Galilea, perché state a guardare verso il cielo? Questo Gesù, che vi è stato tolto ed è stato elevato in cielo, ritornerà nella medesima maniera in cui lo avete visto andare in cielo».

L'attesa dello Spirito Santo

12 Allora essi tornarono a Gerusalemme dal monte chiamato dell'Uliveto, che è vicino a Gerusalemme, non distandone che un cammin di sabato t.13 Quando furono entrati, salirono nella sala di sopra dove di consueto si trattenevano Pietro e Giovanni, Giacomo e Andrea, Filippo e Tommaso, Bartolomeo e Matteo, Giacomo d'Alfeo e Simone lo Zelota t, e Giuda di Giacomo.

14 Tutti questi perseveravano concordi nella preghiera, con le donne e con Maria, madre di Gesù, e con i fratelli di lui.

Mattia scelto al posto di Giuda

15 Inquei giorni Pietro, alzatosi in mezzo ai fratelli (il numero delle persone riunite era di circa centoventi), disse:
16 «Fratelli, era necessario che si adempisse la profezia della Scrittura tpronunciata dallo Spirito Santo per bocca di Davide riguardo a Giuda, che fece da guida a quelli che arrestarono Gesù.17 Perché egli era uno di noi e aveva ricevuto la sua parte di questo ministero.18 Egli dunque acquistò un campo con il salario della sua iniquità; poi, essendosi precipitato, gli si squarciò il ventre, e tutte le sue interiora si sparsero.19 Questo è divenuto così noto a tutti gli abitanti di Gerusalemme, che quel campo è stato chiamato nella loro lingua "Acheldama", cioè "campo di sangue".

20 Infatti sta scritto nel libro dei Salmi:
"La sua dimora diventi deserta#e più nessuno abiti in essa"; #e:
"Il suo incarico lo prenda un altro" t.
21 Bisogna dunque che tra gli uomini che sono stati in nostra compagnia tutto il tempo che il Signore Gesù visse con noi,

22 acominciare dal battesimo di Giovanni fino al giorno che egli, tolto da noi, è stato elevato in cielo, uno diventi testimone con noi della sua risurrezione».
23 Essi ne presentarono due: Giuseppe, detto Barsabba, che era soprannominato Giusto, e Mattia.24 Poi in preghiera dissero: «Tu, Signore, che conosci i cuori di tutti, mostra quale di questi due hai scelto25 per prendere, in questo ministero e apostolato, il posto che Giuda ha abbandonato per andarsene al suo luogo».

26 Tirarono quindi a sorte e la sorte cadde su Mattia, che fu aggiunto agli undici apostoli.

ACTS 1

1  t Theophilus, I first wrote to yout about all that Jesus did and taught from the very first

2 until he was taken up to heaven. But before he was taken up, he gave orders to the apostles he had chosen with the help of the Holy Spirit.
3 For 40 days after Jesus had suffered and died, he proved in many ways that he had been raised from death. He appeared to his apostles and spoke to them about God's kingdom.

4 t While he was still with them, he said:
Don't leave Jerusalem yet. Wait here for the Father to give you the Holy Spirit, just as I told you he has promised to do.

5 t John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.

Jesus Is Taken to Heaven

6 While the apostles were still with Jesus, they asked him, “Lord, are you now going to give Israel its own king again?”t
7 Jesus said to them, “You don't need to know the time of those events that only the Father controls. 8 t But the Holy Spirit will come upon you and give you power. Then you will tell everyone about me in Jerusalem, in all Judea, in Samaria, and everywhere in the world.” 9 t After Jesus had said this and while they were watching, he was taken up into a cloud. They could not see him,

10 but as he went up, they kept looking up into the sky.
Suddenly two men dressed in white clothes were standing there beside them.

11 They said, “Why are you men from Galilee standing here and looking up into the sky? Jesus has been taken to heaven. But he will come back in the same way you have seen him go.”

Someone To Take the Place //of Judas

12-13  t The Mount of Olives was about a kilometer from Jerusalem. The apostles who had gone there were Peter, John, James, Andrew, Philip, Thomas, Bartholomew, Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, Simon, known as the Eager One, t and Judas the son of James.
After the apostles returned to the city, they went upstairs to the room where they had been staying.
14 The apostles often met together and prayed with a single purpose in mind.t The women and Mary the mother of Jesus would meet with them, and so would his brothers. 15 One day there were about 120 of the Lord's followers meeting together, and Peter stood up to speak to them.

16-17 He said:
My friends, long ago by the power of the Holy Spirit, David said something about Judas, and what he said has now happened. Judas was one of us and had worked with us, but he brought the mob to arrest Jesus. 18 t Then Judas bought some land with the money he was given for doing that evil thing. He fell headfirst into the field. His body burst open, and all his insides came out.

19 When the people of Jerusalem found out about this, they called the place Akeldama, which in the local language means “Field of Blood.”

20  t In the book of Psalms it says,
“Leave his house empty,
and don't let anyone
live there.”
It also says,
“Let someone else
have his job.”

21-22  t So we need someone else to help us tell others that Jesus has been raised from death. He must also be one of the men who was with us from the very beginning. He must have been with us from the time the Lord Jesus was baptized by John until the day he was taken to heaven.
23 Two men were suggested: One of them was Joseph Barsabbas, known as Justus, and the other was Matthias. 24 Then they all prayed, “Lord, you know what everyone is like! Show us the one you have chosen 25 to be an apostle and to serve in place of Judas, who got what he deserved.” 26 They drew names, and Matthias was chosen to join the group of the eleven apostles.
