Apostlagärningarna 13

1 I församlingen i Antiochia fanns profeter, som framförde budskap från Gud, och några som undervisade. Det var: Barnabas, Symeon, som också kallades "den svarte"t, Lucius från Kyrene, Manaen, som var fosterbror till kung Herodes, och Saul.2 En gång när dessa män tillbad Herren och fastade, sa Guds heliga Ande: "Avdela Barnabas och Saul för en speciell uppgift som jag har utsett dem till."

3 Och sedan de fastat och bett ytterligare en gång, la de sina händer på dem och skickade iväg dem.

Saul blir Paulus. Paulus på Cypern

4 Efter att Barnabas och Saul sänts ut av Guds heliga Ande, reste de ner till Seleukia och seglade över till Cypern.

5 Den första staden de kom till hette Salamis, och där gick de till de judiska synagogornat och talade till folket om Jesus. Johannes Markus följde med dem som medhjälpare.
6 Sedan reste de från stad till stad på hela ön och talade, och till slut kom de till Pafos. Där träffade de en judisk trollkarl som hette Barjesus, som påstod att han kunde framföra budskap från Gud.7 Landshövdingen bjöd nu hem Barnabas och Saul till sig, eftersom han ville höra budskapet om Jesus.

8 Men trollkarlen (som också kallades Elymast), motarbetade dem och försökte hindra landshövdingen från att tro.
9 Då blev Saul, som även kallades Paulus, fylld av Guds heliga Ande, och han spände ögonen i trollkarlen och sa:10 "Du djävulens son, full av bedrägeri och falskhet, en fiende till allt som är gott, ska du aldrig sluta med att förvränga budskapet om Herren Jesus?11 I samma stund sänkte sig dimma och mörker över trollkarlen, och hjälplös började han gå omkring och leta efter någon som kunde hålla honom i handen och leda honom.

12 Men när landshövdingen såg vad som hände, började han tro, för han var helt förundrad över det han fått lära sig om Herren Jesus.

13 Paulus och hans följeslagare lämnade nu Pafos och seglade till Perge i provinsen Pamfylient. Där lämnade Johannes Markus dem och återvände till Jerusalem.14 När det sedan blev vilodagt gick de till synagogant för att vara med vid samlingen.

15 Efter den vanliga läsningen ur Moses lag och profeternat, vände sig då synagogföreståndarna till Paulus och Barnabas och sa: "Bröder, om ni har något att säga som kan vara till hjälp för oss, så kom fram och gör det!"

16 Då reste sig Paulus, gav tecken till dem att vara tysta och sa: "Israelitert, och alla andra här som tillber Gud, lyssna på mig.
17 Israels Gud utsåg våra förfäder till att få vara hans eget folk. Och han lät dem bli ett mycket stort folk när de bodde som främlingar i Egypten. Sedan ledde han dem ut därifrån på ett mäktigt sätt och räddade dem från slaveriet.18 Under 40 år hade Gud tålamod med dem när de vandrade genom öknen,19 och sedan utrotade han sju folk i Kanaan och gav deras land till israeliterna.

20 Allt det här tog ungefär 450 år. Efter det lät han olika domare härska över dem, fram till den tid då profeten Samuel styrde Israel.
21 Sedan tiggde folket om en kung, och Gud gav dem Saul, Kishs son, en man ur Benjamins stam. Han regerade i 40 år.22 Men Gud avsatte honom och lät David bli kung över dem istället. Om honom sa Gud: 'Jag har funnit David, Jishajs son, en man som följer min vilja. Han kommer att göra allt jag säger till honom.'t

23 Gud lovade kung David att en av hans ättlingar skulle bli en räddare för Israels folk, och det är detta som nu har blivit verklighet. Jesus är den som räddar oss.
24 Men innan Jesus trädde fram förberedde Johannes döparen Israels folk genom att uppmana dem att lämna synden, vända om till Gud och låta döpa sig.

25 När Johannes uppgift närmade sig sitt slut sa han: 'Jag är inte den som Gud har lovat ska rädda er. Han kommer efter mig, och han är så mäktig att jag inte ens är värdig att knyta upp hans sandalremmar.t'
26 Lyssa nu, ni ättlingar till Abraham, och alla andra här som tillber Gud! Denna räddning gäller oss alla.27 Folket i Jerusalem och deras ledare insåg nämligen inte vem Jesus var. De förstod inte att han var den som Gud talat om genom profeterna, trots att de hört profeternas budskapt läsas varje vecka, på vilodagen. Därför dömde de honom till döden, och genom detta blev det som Gud förutsagt verklighet.28 Ja, trots att de inte kunde hitta något giltigt skäl att avrätta honom, bad de Pilatus att döda honom.

29 Och när de hade slutfört allt det som står i Skriftent när det gäller Jesus död, tog de ner honom från korset och la honom i en grav.
30 Men Gud uppväckte honom från de döda,

31 och Jesus visade sig sedan många gånger under de följande dagarna för dem som hade följt med honom från Galileen till Jerusalem. Det är dessa som nu berättar om honom för Israels folk.
32-33 Och nu har turen kommit till er. Vi är här för att berätta de glada nyheterna om att Gud, just i våra dagar, har infriat sitt löfte till förfäderna, genom att uppväcka Jesus från de döda. Det är honom den andra psalmen i Psaltaren handlar om, när den säger: 'Du är min son. Idag har jag blivit din Far.'t34 För Gud hade lovat att Jesus skulle uppstå från de döda och aldrig mer behöva dö. Det förklarade han med orden: 'Jag ska infria mitt heliga och säkra löfte och ge er allt det goda jag lovade David.'t35 Och det löfte han tänkte på var detta: 'Du ska inte låta din heliga tjänare förmultna.'t36 Det här löftet handlar inte om David, för när David hade tjänat sitt folk enligt Guds vilja, dog han och blev begravd och hans kropp förmultnade.

37 Nej, det handlar om någon annan, en som Gud uppväckte från de döda, och vars kropp inte förmultnade.
38 Mina vänner, lyssna! Det är genom den här mannen, Jesus, som ni kan få förlåtelse för era synder.39 Alla som tror på honom blir skuldfria inför Gud, något ni aldrig kunde bli genom att följa Moses lagt.

40 Därför måste ni se upp. Låt er inte drabbas av det som Gud varnar för genom profeternat:
41 'Se häråt, ni som hånar sanningen. Låt er förvånas och sedan dö.
Jag ska göra något stort under er tid, något som ni inte kommer att tro den dag man berättar det för er.t' "42 När samlingen sedan var över och Paulus och Barnabas lämnade synagogan, bad folket dem att komma tillbaka nästa vecka, på vilodagen, så att de kunde höra mer.

43 Många judar, och andra som tillbad Israels Gud, passade också på att göra sällskap med Paulus och Barnabas, som talade till dem och uppmanade dem: "Fortsätt att leva helt beroende av Guds godhet och förlåtelse."

Paulus sprider budskapet om Jesus till andra än judarna

44 På vilodagent, en vecka senare, kom nästan hela staden för att höra budskapet om Herren Jesus.

45 Men när de judiska ledarna såg allt folket, blev de avundsjuka och började håna Paulus och förlöjliga allt han sa.
46 Men Paulus och Barnabas svarade dem utan att tveka: "Ni judar skulle vara de första som fick chansen att höra budskapet om Herren Jesus, men eftersom ni avvisar erbjudandet och gör er själva ovärdiga det eviga livet, så vänder vi oss nu till andra folk.47 Det är också vad Herren har befallt oss, för det står i Skriftent:
'Jag har gjort dig till ett ljus för alla folk,
för att du ska rädda alla på hela jorden.t' "48 När de som inte var judar hörde detta blev de mycket glada och hyllade budskapet om Herren Jesus, och alla som var utsedda till evigt liv började tro.

49 Sedan spreds de glada nyheterna om Herren i hela området.
50 Men de judiska ledarna hetsade upp de högt uppsatta kvinnor som tillbad Israels Gud, och även de ledande männen i staden, och satte igång en förföljelse mot Paulus och Barnabas och drev bort dem från området.51 Båda två skakade då stadens damm av sina föttert och bekymrade sig inte mer om dem, utan fortsatte till staden Ikonion.

52 Och Jesus efterföljare fylldes av glädje och Guds heliga Ande.

The Church at Antioch Commissions Barnabas and Saul

1 Now there were these prophets and teachers in the church at Antioch:ss Barnabas, Simeon called Niger,s Lucius the Cyrenian,s Manaen (a close friend of Herods the tetrarchts from childhoodt) and Saul.2 While they were servingt the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apartt for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.”

3 Then, after they had fastedt andt prayed and placed their handss on them, they sent them off.

4 So Barnabas and Saul,t sent out by the Holy Spirit, went down to Seleucia,s and from there they sailed to Cyprus.s5 Whent they arrivedt in Salamis,s they began to proclaimt the word of God in the Jewish synagogues.s (Now they also had Johns as their assistant.)ts6 When they had crossed overt the whole island as far as Paphos,s they found a magician, a Jewish false prophet named Bar-Jesus,s7 who was with the proconsuls Sergius Paulus, an intelligent man. The proconsult summonedt Barnabas and Saul and wanted to hears the word of God.8 But the magician Elymast (for that is the way his name is translated)s opposed them, trying to turn the proconsuls away from the faith.9 But Saul (also known as Paul),s filled with the Holy Spirit,s stared straightt at him10 and said, “You who are full of all deceit and all wrongdoing,t you son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness – will you not stop making crooked the straight paths of the Lord?s11 Nowt look, the hand of the Lord is againstt you, and you will be blind, unable to see the sun for a time!” Immediately mistinesss and darkness came overt him, and he went around seeking peoplet to lead him by the hand.

12 Then when the proconsuls saw what had happened, he believed,s because he was greatly astoundedt at the teaching aboutt the Lord.

13 Then Paul and his companions put out to seat from Paphoss and came to Pergas in Pamphylia,s but Johns left them and returned to Jerusalem.ss14 Moving on fromt Perga,s they arrived at Pisidian Antioch,tss and on the Sabbath day they went intot the synagogues and sat down.15 After the reading from the law and the prophets,s the leaders of the synagoguet sent them a message,t saying, “Brothers,t if you have any messaget of exhortationt for the people, speak it.”t

16 So Paul stood up,t gesturedt with his hand and said,
“Men of Israel,t and you Gentiles who fear God,t listen:17 The God of this people Israelt chose our ancestorsts and made the people greatt during their stay as foreignerst in the countryt of Egypt, and with uplifted arms he led them out of it.18 Fort a period of about forty years he put up witht them in the wilderness.t19 Aftert he had destroyedt seven nationss in the land of Canaan, he gave his people their land as an inheritance.t20 All this tookt about four hundred fifty years. After thist he gave them judges until the time oft Samuel the prophet.21 Then they asked for a king, and God gave them Saul son of Kish, a man from the tribe of Benjamin, who ruledt forty years.22 After removing him, Godt raised ups David their king. He testified about him:t ‘I have found Davids the son of Jesse to be a man after my heart,s who will accomplish everything I want him to do.’t23 From the descendantsts of this mans God brought to Israel a Savior, Jesus, just as he promised.ts24 Beforet Jesust arrived, Johns had proclaimed a baptism for repentancet to all the people of Israel.25 But while John was completing his mission,t he said repeatedly,t ‘What do you think I am? I am not he. But look, one is coming after me. I am not worthy to untie the sandals on his feet!’t26 Brothers,t descendantst of Abraham’s family,t and those Gentiles among you who fear God,t the messaget of this salvation has been sent to us.27 For the people who live in Jerusalem and their rulers did not recognizet him,t and they fulfilled the sayingsts of the prophets that are read every Sabbath by condemningt him.t28 Thought they foundt no basiss for a death sentence,t they asked Pilate to have him executed.29 When they had accomplishedt everything that was writtens about him, they took him downt from the crosst and placed himt in a tomb.30 But God raiseds him from the dead,31 andt for many days he appeared to those who had accompanieds him from Galilee to Jerusalem. Theset are now his witnesses to the people.32 And we proclaim to you the good news about the promise to our ancestors,t33 that this promisets God has fulfilled to us, their children, by raisingts Jesus, as also it is written in the second psalm, ‘You are my Son;stoday I have fathered you.’ts34 But regarding the fact that he has raised Jesust from the dead, nevert again to bet in a state of decay, Godt has spoken in this way: ‘I will give youtthe holy and trustworthy promisestmade to David.’s35 Therefore he also says in another psalm,t ‘You will not permit your Holy Onetto experiencetdecay.’s36 For David, after he had servedt God’s purpose in his own generation, died,t was buried with his ancestors,t and experiencedt decay,37 but the ones whom God raised up did not experiencet decay.38 Therefore let it be known to you, brothers, that through this onet forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you,39 and by this ones everyone who believes is justifiedt from everything from which the law of Moses could not justifyt you.t

40 Watch out,s then, that what is spoken about byt the prophets does not happen to you:

41 ‘Look, you scoffers; be amazed and perish!t
For I am doing a work in your days,
a work you would never believe, even if someone tells you.’”s
42 As Paul and Barnabast were going out,t the peoplet were urgingt them to speak about these thingst on the next Sabbath.

43 When the meeting of the synagogues had broken up,t many of the Jews and God-fearing proselytest followed Paul and Barnabas, who were speaking with them and were persuadingt themt to continuet in the grace of God.
44 On the next Sabbath almost the whole city assembled together to hear the word of the Lord.ss45 But when the Jews saw the crowds, they were filled with jealousy,s and they began to contradictt what Paul was sayingt by reviling him.t46 Both Paul and Barnabas replied courageously,t “It was necessary to speak the word of Godt to you first. Since you reject it and do not consider yourselves worthyt of eternal life, wet are turning to the Gentiles.s47 For thist is what the Lord has commanded us: ‘I have appointedtyou to be a lightsfor the Gentiles, to bring salvationtto the ends of the earth.’”s48 When the Gentiles heard this, they began to rejoicet and praiset the word of the Lord, and all who had been appointed for eternal lifes believed.49 So the word of the Lord was spreadingt through the entire region.50 But the Jews incitedt the God-fearing women of high social standing and the prominent men of the city, stirred up persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and threw them outt of their region.51 So after they shookt the dust off their feets in protest against them, they went to Iconium.s

52 And the disciples were filled with joys and with the Holy Spirit.
