Misión de Bernabé y Saulo

1 Los profetas y maestros de la iglesiat de Antioquía eran Bernabé; Simón, también llamado el Negro; Lucio, de la ciudad de Cirene; Manaén, que se había criado con Herodes el gobernantet, y Saulo.

2 Un día, mientras ayunaban y adoraban al Señor, el Espíritu Santo dijo: «Aparten a Bernabé y a Saulo para que hagan el trabajo para el cual los he llamado».

3 Entonces ellos ayunaron, oraron e impusieron las manost a Bernabé y Saulo, y luego los despidieron.

Bernabé y Saulo en Chipre

4 Así que, enviados por el Espíritu Santo, Bernabé y Saulo llegaron a Seleucia y de ahí viajaron a la isla de Chipre.

5 Al llegar a Salamina, anunciaron el mensajet de Dios en las sinagogast judías y Juant les ayudaba.
6 Recorrieron toda la isla hasta llegar a Pafos, donde conocieron a un judío llamado Barjesús que practicaba la brujería. Este falso profeta7 siempre estaba cerca del gobernador Sergio Paulo. El gobernador era un hombre inteligente y les pidió a Bernabé y a Saulo que vinieran a visitarlo porque quería escuchar el mensaje de Dios.8 Pero Elimas el mago, pues así se traduce su nombre, trataba de evitar que el gobernador creyera en Jesús.9 Pero Saulo, también llamado Pablo, lleno del Espíritu Santo miró fijamente a Elimas

10 y le dijo:
—¡Hijo del diablo! Eres enemigo de todo lo bueno, estás lleno de mentiras y trucos del diablo y siempre tratas de tergiversar el verdadero camino del Señor.

11 Ahora el Señor te castigará y quedarás ciego. Por un tiempo no podrás ver nada, ni siquiera la luz del sol.
En ese mismo instante todo se volvió oscuridad para Elimas. Caminó perdido por los alrededores, tratando de encontrar a alguien que lo guiara de la mano.

12 Cuando vio esto el gobernador creyó, asombrado con la enseñanza del Señor.

Pablo y Bernabé salen de Chipre

13 Pablo y todos los que iban con él, se fueron de Pafos en barco. Llegaron a Perge, una ciudad que quedaba en Panfilia, pero Juan Marcos los dejó allí y regresó a Jerusalén.14 Ellos continuaron su viaje desde Perge hasta Antioquía de Pisidia. Estando en Antioquía en el día de descansot, fueron a la sinagogat y tomaron asiento allí.

15 Después de leer la ley y los escritos de los profetas, los dirigentes de la sinagoga enviaron este mensaje a Pablo y Bernabé:
—Hermanos, si tienen algo que decir que pueda ayudar a los que están aquí, por favor, tomen la palabra.

16 Pablo se puso de pie y tomó la palabra:
—Israelitas y también ustedes los que no son judíos y adoran al Dios verdadero, escúchenme.17 El Dios de este pueblo de Israelt eligió a nuestros antepasados, ayudó a nuestro pueblo a salir adelante mientras vivieron en Egipto y los sacó de allí con gran poder.18 Dios tuvo paciencia con ellos durante los cuarenta años que estuvieron en el desierto.19 Él destruyó siete naciones en la tierra de Canaánt y les dio a los israelitas esa tierra como herencia.

20 Todo eso sucedió en más o menos cuatrocientos cincuenta años.
»Después, Dios les dio juecest hasta el tiempo del profeta Samuelt.21 Entonces el pueblo pidió un rey. Dios les dio a Saúl, hijo de Cis, que era de la tribu de Benjamín, quien fue rey por cuarenta años.

22 Después de destituir a Saúl, Dios nombró rey a Davidt, de quien dio testimonio: "David, el hijo de Isaí, me agrada porque está dispuesto a hacer todo lo que yo le diga".
23 »Dios cumplió su promesa al enviar a Jesús, quien era descendiente de David, para ser el Salvador.24 Antes de que Jesús viniera, Juan anunció su mensaje al pueblo de Israel. Juan les dijo que se bautizarant para demostrar que querían cambiar su vida.

25 Cuando Juan estaba terminando su trabajo, dijo: "¿Quién creen ustedes que soy? Yo no soy él, pues él viene después de mí, y no soy digno ni de desatarle sus sandalias".
26 »Hermanos, hijos de la familia de Abrahamt, y ustedes que adoran al Dios verdadero, escuchen. Este mensajet de salvación ha llegado a nosotros.27 Los que viven en Jerusalén y sus líderes no reconocieron a Jesús, y al condenarlo cumplieron las palabras de los profetas que se leen cada sábado.28 Ellos no pudieron encontrar una razón para matar a Jesús, pero le pidieron a Pilatot que lo matara.29 Cuando ya habían cumplido todo lo que se dijo acerca de Jesús en las Escriturast, lo bajaron de la cruz y lo pusieron en un sepulcro.30 Pero Dios lo resucitó.

31 Después, los que lo habían acompañado desde Galilea hasta Jerusalén vieron a Jesús durante muchos días. Ahora ellos son sus testigos ante el pueblo.
32 »Nosotros les anunciamos la buena noticiat acerca de la promesa que Dios les hizo a nuestros antepasados.

33 Como descendientes de ellos, recibimos de parte de Dios el cumplimiento de la promesa cuando Jesús resucitó de la muerte. Como dice en el segundo Salmo:
»"Tú eres mi Hijo,
hoy me he convertido en tu Padre"t.t
34 »Dios resucitó a Jesús para que él nunca regrese a la tumba a descomponerse. Entonces Dios dijo:
»"Yo les daré las promesas verdaderas
y santas que le hice a David".t

35 Por eso dice en otro lugar:
»"Tú no dejarás que tu Santo se pudra
en la tumba".t
36 »En vida, David hizo lo que Dios quería. Después murió y lo enterraron con sus antepasados. Su cuerpo se pudrió en la tumba,37 pero Jesús, al que Dios resucitó de la muerte, no se pudrió en la tumba.38 Entiendan esto, hermanos: el perdón que ustedes no pudieron alcanzar por medio de la ley de Moisést, lo reciben por medio de Jesús.39 Todo el que tiene fe en él es aprobado por Dios.40 Pero tengan cuidado, los profetas dijeron lo que pasaría. No dejen que eso les pase a ustedes:

41 »"¡Escuchen, ustedes que dudan!
Asómbrense y desaparezcan.
Porque en su tiempo,
yo haré algo que ustedes no creerán
aun cuando alguien se lo explique"».t
42 Mientras Pablo y Bernabé se iban, la gente les pidió que regresaran al siguiente día de descanso para que les continuaran enseñando.

43 Después de la reunión, muchos de los judíos y muchos devotos convertidos a la religión judía siguieron a Bernabé y a Pablo, quienes los animaban a seguir confiando en el generoso amort de Dios.
44 Al siguiente día de descanso, casi toda la gente de la ciudad vino a escuchar la palabra del Señor.45 Cuando los judíos vieron a todos allí, se llenaron de envidia, insultaban a Pablo y se oponían a lo que decía.

46 Sin embargo, Pablo y Bernabé se atrevieron a hablar y dijeron:
—Era necesario que ustedes conocieran la palabra de Dios primero, pero la han rechazado. Ya que ustedes no se consideran dignos de tener la vida eterna, entonces ahora iremos a los que no son judíos.

47 Esto es lo que el Señor nos ha ordenado:
»"Yo los he creado para ser la luz
de otras naciones,
para que le muestren salvación
a todo el mundo"».t

48 Cuando los que no eran judíos escucharon esto, se pusieron muy felices, dieron gracias por el mensaje del Señor y creyeron todos los que estaban elegidos para la vida eterna.
49 El mensaje del Señor se anunció por toda la región.50 Pero los judíos incitaron a algunas de las mujeres religiosas más importantes y a las autoridades de la ciudad para que se pusieron en contra de Pablo y Bernabé. Los maltrataron y echaron fuera de la ciudad.51 Entonces Pablo y Bernabé se sacudieron el polvo que tenían en los pies como señal de protesta, y se fueron a la ciudad de Iconio.

52 Los seguidores del Señor en Antioquía estaban muy felices y llenos del Espíritu Santo.

Acts 13

First Missionary Journey

1 Now there were at Antioch, in the church that was there, prophets and teachers: Barnabas, and Simeon who was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.2 While they were ministering to the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, "Set apart for Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them."3 Then, when they had fasted and prayed and laid their hands on them, they sent them away.

4 So, being sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia and from there they sailed to Cyprus.5 When they reached Salamis, they began to proclaim the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews; and they also had John as their helper.6 When they had gone through the whole island as far as Paphos, they found a magician, a Jewish false prophet whose name was Bar-Jesus,7 who was with the proconsul, Sergius Paulus, a man of intelligence. This man summoned Barnabas and Saul and sought to hear the word of God.8 But Elymas the magician (for so his name is translated) was opposing them, seeking to turn the proconsul away from the faith.9 But Saul, who was also known as Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, fixed his gaze on him,10 and said, "You who are full of all deceit and fraud, you son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease to make crooked the straight ways of the Lord?11 Now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon you, and you will be blind and not see the sun for a time." And immediately a mist and a darkness fell upon him, and he went about seeking those who would lead him by the hand.12 Then the proconsul believed when he saw what had happened, being amazed at the teaching of the Lord.

13 Now Paul and his companions put out to sea from Paphos and came to Perga in Pamphylia; but John left them and returned to Jerusalem.14 But going on from Perga, they arrived at Pisidian Antioch, and on the Sabbath day they went into the synagogue and sat down.15 After the reading of the Law and the Prophets the synagogue officials sent to them, saying, "Brethren, if you have any word of exhortation for the people, say it."

16 Paul stood up, and motioning with his hand said,
"Men of Israel, and you who fear God, listen:17 The God of this people Israel chose our fathers and made the people great during their stay in the land of Egypt, and with an uplifted arm He led them out from it.18 For a period of about forty years He put up with them in the wilderness.19 When He had destroyed seven nations in the land of Canaan, He distributed their land as an inheritance- all of which took about four hundred and fifty years.20 After these things He gave them judges until Samuel the prophet.21 Then they asked for a king, and God gave them Saul the son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years.22 After He had removed him, He raised up David to be their king, concerning whom He also testified and said, 'I HAVE FOUND DAVID the son of Jesse, A MAN AFTER MY HEART, who will do all My will.'23 From the descendants of this man, according to promise, God has brought to Israel a Savior, Jesus,24 after John had proclaimed before His coming a baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel.25 And while John was completing his course, he kept saying, 'What do you suppose that I am? I am not He. But behold, one is coming after me the sandals of whose feet I am not worthy to untie.'

26 "Brethren, sons of Abraham's family, and those among you who fear God, to us the message of this salvation has been sent.27 For those who live in Jerusalem, and their rulers, recognizing neither Him nor the utterances of the prophets which are read every Sabbath, fulfilled these by condemning Him. 28 And though they found no ground for putting Him to death, they asked Pilate that He be executed.29 When they had carried out all that was written concerning Him, they took Him down from the cross and laid Him in a tomb.30 But God raised Him from the dead;31 and for many days He appeared to those who came up with Him from Galilee to Jerusalem, the very ones who are now His witnesses to the people.32 And we preach to you the good news of the promise made to the fathers,33 that God has fulfilled this promise to our children in that He raised up Jesus, as it is also written in the second Psalm, 'YOU ARE MY SON; TODAY I HAVE BEGOTTEN YOU.'34  As for the fact that He raised Him up from the dead, no longer to return to decay, He has spoken in this way: 'I WILL GIVE YOU THE HOLY and SURE blessings OF DAVID.'35 Therefore He also says in another Psalm, 'YOU WILL NOT ALLOW YOUR HOLY ONE TO UNDERGO DECAY.'36 For David, after he had served the purpose of God in his own generation, fell asleep, and was laid among his fathers and underwent decay;37 but He whom God raised did not undergo decay.38 Therefore let it be known to you, brethren, that through Him forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you,39 and through Him everyone who believes is freed from all things, from which you could not be freed through the Law of Moses.40 Therefore take heed, so that the thing spoken of in the Prophets may not come upon you:

41 'BEHOLD, YOU SCOFFERS, AND MARVEL, AND PERISH;
FOR I AM ACCOMPLISHING A WORK IN YOUR DAYS,
A WORK WHICH YOU WILL NEVER BELIEVE, THOUGH SOMEONE SHOULD DESCRIBE IT TO YOU.'"

42 As Paul and Barnabas were going out, the people kept begging that these things might be spoken to them the next Sabbath.43 Now when the meeting of the synagogue had broken up, many of the Jews and of the God-fearing proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas, who, speaking to them, were urging them to continue in the grace of God.

Paul Turns to the Gentiles

44 The next Sabbath nearly the whole city assembled to hear the word of the Lord.45 But when the Jews saw the crowds, they were filled with jealousy and began contradicting the things spoken by Paul, and were blaspheming.46 Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly and said, "It was necessary that the word of God be spoken to you first; since you repudiate it and judge yourselves unworthy of eternal life, behold, we are turning to the Gentiles.47 For so the Lord has commanded us,
'I HAVE PLACED YOU AS A LIGHT FOR THE GENTILES,
THAT YOU MAY BRING SALVATION TO THE END OF THE EARTH.'"

48 When the Gentiles heard this, they began rejoicing and glorifying the word of the Lord; and as many as had been appointed to eternal life believed.49 And the word of the Lord was being spread through the whole region.50 But the Jews incited the devout women of prominence and the leading men of the city, and instigated a persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and drove them out of their district.51 But they shook off the dust of their feet in protest against them and went to Iconium.52 And the disciples were continually filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.
