1 انطاکیہ کی جماعت میں کئی نبی اور اُستاد تھے: برنباس، شمعون جو کالا کہلاتا تھا، لوکیُس کرینی، مناہیم جس نے بادشاہ ہیرودیس انتپاس کے ساتھ پرورش پائی تھی اور ساؤل۔2 ایک دن جب وہ روزہ رکھ کر خداوند کی پرستش کر رہے تھے تو روح القدس اُن سے ہم کلام ہوا، ”برنباس اور ساؤل کو اُس خاص کام کے لئے الگ کرو جس کے لئے مَیں نے اُنہیں بُلایا ہے۔“3 اِس پر اُنہوں نے مزید روزے رکھے اور دعا کی، پھر اُن پر اپنے ہاتھ رکھ کر اُنہیں رُخصت کر دیا۔4 یوں برنباس اور ساؤل کو روح القدس کی طرف سے بھیجا گیا۔ پہلے وہ ساحلی شہر سلوکیہ گئے اور وہاں جہاز میں بیٹھ کر جزیرۂ قبرص کے لئے روانہ ہوئے۔5 جب وہ سلمیس شہر پہنچے تو اُنہوں نے یہودیوں کے عبادت خانوں میں جا کر اللہ کا کلام سنایا۔ یوحنا مرقس مددگار کے طور پر اُن کے ساتھ تھا۔6 پورے جزیرے میں سے سفر کرتے کرتے وہ پافس شہر تک پہنچ گئے۔ وہاں اُن کی ملاقات ایک یہودی جادوگر سے ہوئی جس کا نام برعیسیٰ تھا۔ وہ جھوٹا نبی تھا7 اور جزیرے کے گورنر سرگیُس پولس کی خدمت کے لئے حاضر رہتا تھا۔ سرگیُس ایک سمجھ دار آدمی تھا۔ اُس نے برنباس اور ساؤل کو اپنے پاس بُلا لیا کیونکہ وہ اللہ کا کلام سننے کا خواہش مند تھا۔8 لیکن جادوگر الیماس (برعیسیٰ کا دوسرا نام) نے اُن کی مخالفت کر کے گورنر کو ایمان سے باز رکھنے کی کوشش کی۔9 پھر ساؤل جو پولس بھی کہلاتا ہے روح القدس سے معمور ہوا اور غور سے اُس کی طرف دیکھنے لگا۔10 اُس نے کہا، ”ابلیس کے فرزند! تُو ہر قسم کے دھوکے اور بدی سے بھرا ہوا ہے اور ہر انصاف کا دشمن ہے۔ کیا تُو خداوند کی سیدھی راہوں کو بگاڑنے کی کوشش سے باز نہ آئے گا؟11 اب خداوند تجھے سزا دے گا۔ تُو اندھا ہو کر کچھ دیر کے لئے سورج کی روشنی نہیں دیکھے گا۔“ اُسی لمحے دُھند اور تاریکی جادوگر پر چھا گئی اور وہ ٹٹول ٹٹول کر کسی کو تلاش کرنے لگا جو اُس کی راہنمائی کرے۔12 یہ ماجرا دیکھ کر گورنر ایمان لایا، کیونکہ خداوند کی تعلیم نے اُسے حیرت زدہ کر دیا تھا۔13 پھر پولس اور اُس کے ساتھی جہاز پر سوار ہوئے اور پافس سے روانہ ہو کر پرگہ شہر پہنچ گئے جو پمفیلیہ میں ہے۔ وہاں یوحنا مرقس اُنہیں چھوڑ کر یروشلم واپس چلا گیا۔14 لیکن پولس اور برنباس آگے نکل کر پسدیہ میں واقع شہر انطاکیہ پہنچے جہاں وہ سبت کے دن یہودی عبادت خانے میں جا کر بیٹھ گئے۔15 توریت اور نبیوں کے صحیفوں کی تلاوت کے بعد عبادت خانے کے راہنماؤں نے اُنہیں کہلا بھیجا، ”بھائیو، اگر آپ کے پاس لوگوں کے لئے کوئی نصیحت کی بات ہے تو اُسے پیش کریں۔“16 پولس کھڑا ہوا اور ہاتھ کا اشارہ کر کے بولنے لگا، ”اسرائیل کے مردو اور خدا ترس غیریہودیو، میری بات سنیں!17 اِس قوم اسرائیل کے خدا نے ہمارے باپ دادا کو چن کر اُنہیں مصر میں ہی طاقت ور بنا دیا جہاں وہ اجنبی تھے۔ پھر وہ اُنہیں بڑی قدرت کے ساتھ وہاں سے نکال لایا۔18 جب وہ ریگستان میں پھر رہے تھے تو وہ چالیس سال تک اُنہیں برداشت کرتا رہا۔19 اِس کے بعد اُس نے ملکِ کنعان میں سات قوموں کو تباہ کر کے اُن کی زمین اسرائیل کو ورثے میں دی۔20 اِتنے میں تقریباً 450 سال گزر گئے۔ یشوع کی موت پر اللہ نے اُنہیں سموایل نبی کے دور تک قاضی دیئے تاکہ اُن کی راہنمائی کریں۔21 پھر اِن سے تنگ آ کر اُنہوں نے بادشاہ مانگا، اِس لئے اُس نے اُنہیں ساؤل بن قیس دے دیا جو بن یمین کے قبیلے کا تھا۔ ساؤل چالیس سال تک اُن کا بادشاہ رہا،22 پھر اللہ نے اُسے ہٹا کر داؤد کو تخت پر بٹھا دیا۔ داؤد وہی آدمی ہے جس کے بارے میں اللہ نے گواہی دی، ’مَیں نے داؤد بن یسّی میں ایک ایسا آدمی پایا ہے جو میری سوچ رکھتا ہے۔ جو کچھ بھی مَیں چاہتا ہوں اُسے وہ کرے گا۔‘23 اِسی بادشاہ کی اولاد میں سے عیسیٰ نکلا جس کا وعدہ اللہ کر چکا تھا اور جسے اُس نے اسرائیل کو نجات دینے کے لئے بھیج دیا۔24 اُس کے آنے سے پیشتر یحییٰ بپتسمہ دینے والے نے اعلان کیا کہ اسرائیل کی پوری قوم کو توبہ کر کے بپتسمہ لینے کی ضرورت ہے۔25 اپنی خدمت کے اختتام پر اُس نے کہا، ’تمہارے نزدیک مَیں کون ہوں؟ مَیں وہ نہیں ہوں جو تم سمجھتے ہو۔ لیکن میرے بعد وہ آ رہا ہے جس کے جوتوں کے تسمے مَیں کھولنے کے لائق بھی نہیں ہوں۔‘26 بھائیو، ابراہیم کے فرزندو اور خدا کا خوف ماننے والے غیریہودیو! نجات کا پیغام ہمیں ہی بھیج دیا گیا ہے۔27 یروشلم کے رہنے والوں اور اُن کے راہنماؤں نے عیسیٰ کو نہ پہچانا بلکہ اُسے مجرم ٹھہرایا۔ یوں اُن کی معرفت نبیوں کی وہ پیش گوئیاں پوری ہوئیں جن کی تلاوت ہر سبت کو کی جاتی ہے۔28 اور اگرچہ اُنہیں سزائے موت دینے کی وجہ نہ ملی توبھی اُنہوں نے پیلاطس سے گزارش کی کہ وہ اُسے سزائے موت دے۔29 جب اُن کی معرفت عیسیٰ کے بارے میں تمام پیش گوئیاں پوری ہوئیں تو اُنہوں نے اُسے صلیب سے اُتار کر قبر میں رکھ دیا۔30 لیکن اللہ نے اُسے مُردوں میں سے زندہ کر دیا31 اور وہ بہت دنوں تک اپنے اُن پیروکاروں پر ظاہر ہوتا رہا جو اُس کے ساتھ گلیل سے یروشلم آئے تھے۔ یہ اب ہماری قوم کے سامنے اُس کے گواہ ہیں۔32 اور اب ہم آپ کو یہ خوش خبری سنانے آئے ہیں کہ جو وعدہ اللہ نے ہمارے باپ دادا کے ساتھ کیا،33 اُسے اُس نے عیسیٰ کو زندہ کر کے ہمارے لئے جو اُن کی اولاد ہیں پورا کر دیا ہے۔ یوں دوسرے زبور میں لکھا ہے، ’تُو میرا فرزند ہے، آج مَیں تیرا باپ بن گیا ہوں۔‘34 اِس حقیقت کا ذکر بھی کلامِ مُقدّس میں کیا گیا ہے کہ اللہ اُسے مُردوں میں سے زندہ کر کے کبھی گلنے سڑنے نہیں دے گا: ’مَیں تمہیں اُن مُقدّس اور اَن مٹ مہربانیوں سے نوازوں گا جن کا وعدہ داؤد سے کیا تھا۔‘35 یہ بات ایک اَور حوالے میں پیش کی گئی ہے، ’تُو اپنے مُقدّس کو گلنے سڑنے کی نوبت تک پہنچنے نہیں دے گا۔‘36 اِس حوالے کا تعلق داؤد کے ساتھ نہیں ہے، کیونکہ داؤد اپنے زمانے میں اللہ کی مرضی کی خدمت کرنے کے بعد فوت ہو کر اپنے باپ دادا سے جا ملا۔ اُس کی لاش گل کر ختم ہو گئی۔37 بلکہ یہ حوالہ کسی اَور کا ذکر کرتا ہے، اُس کا جسے اللہ نے زندہ کر دیا اور جس کا جسم گلنے سڑنے سے دوچار نہ ہوا۔38 بھائیو، اب میری یہ بات جان لیں، ہم اِس کی منادی کرنے آئے ہیں کہ آپ کو اِس شخص عیسیٰ کے وسیلے سے اپنے گناہوں کی معافی ملتی ہے۔ موسیٰ کی شریعت آپ کو کسی طرح بھی راست باز قرار نہیں دے سکتی تھی،39 لیکن اب جو بھی عیسیٰ پر ایمان لائے اُسے ہر لحاظ سے راست باز قرار دیا جاتا ہے۔40 اِس لئے خبردار! ایسا نہ ہو کہ وہ بات آپ پر پوری اُترے جو نبیوں کے صحیفوں میں لکھی ہے،41 ’غور کرو، مذاق اُڑانے والو! حیرت زدہ ہو کر ہلاک ہو جاؤ۔ کیونکہ مَیں تمہارے جیتے جی ایک ایسا کام کروں گا جس کی جب خبر سنو گے تو تمہیں یقین نہیں آئے گا‘۔“42 جب پولس اور برنباس عبادت خانے سے نکلنے لگے تو لوگوں نے اُن سے گزارش کی، ”اگلے سبت ہمیں اِن باتوں کے بارے میں مزید کچھ بتائیں۔“43 عبادت کے بعد بہت سے یہودی اور یہودی ایمان کے نومرید پولس اور برنباس کے پیچھے ہو لئے، اور دونوں نے اُن سے بات کر کے اُن کی حوصلہ افزائی کی کہ اللہ کے فضل پر قائم رہیں۔44 اگلے سبت کے دن تقریباً تمام شہر خداوند کا کلام سننے کو جمع ہوا۔45 لیکن جب یہودیوں نے ہجوم کو دیکھا تو وہ حسد سے جل گئے اور پولس کی باتوں کی تردید کر کے کفر بکنے لگے۔46 اِس پر پولس اور برنباس نے اُن سے صاف صاف کہہ دیا، ”لازم تھا کہ اللہ کا کلام پہلے آپ کو سنایا جائے۔ لیکن چونکہ آپ اُسے مسترد کر کے اپنے آپ کو ابدی زندگی کے لائق نہیں سمجھتے اِس لئے ہم اب غیریہودیوں کی طرف رُخ کرتے ہیں۔47 کیونکہ خداوند نے ہمیں یہی حکم دیا جب اُس نے فرمایا، ’مَیں نے تجھے دیگر اقوام کی روشنی بنا دی ہے تاکہ تُو میری نجات کو دنیا کی انتہا تک پہنچائے‘۔“48 یہ سن کر غیریہودی خوش ہوئے اور خداوند کے کلام کی تمجید کرنے لگے۔ اور جتنے ابدی زندگی کے لئے مقرر کئے گئے تھے وہ ایمان لائے۔49 یوں خداوند کا کلام پورے علاقے میں پھیل گیا۔50 پھر یہودیوں نے شہر کے لیڈروں اور یہودی ایمان رکھنے والی کچھ بارسوخ غیریہودی خواتین کو اُکسا کر لوگوں کو پولس اور برنباس کو ستانے پر اُبھارا۔ آخرکار اُنہیں شہر کی سرحدوں سے نکال دیا گیا۔51 اِس پر وہ اُن کے خلاف گواہی کے طور پر اپنے جوتوں سے گرد جھاڑ کر آگے بڑھے اور اکنیُم شہر پہنچ گئے۔52 اور انطاکیہ کے شاگرد خوشی اور روح القدس سے بھرے رہے۔

Acts 13

1 Now there were at Antioch, in the church that was there, prophets and teachers, Barnabas, and Symeon that was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen the foster-brother of Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.2 And as they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.3 Then, when they had fasted and prayed and laid their hands on them, they sent them away.4 So they, being sent forth by the Holy Spirit, went down to Seleucia; and from thence they sailed to Cyprus.5 And when they were at Salamis, they proclaimed the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews: and they had also John as their attendant.6 And when they had gone through the whole island unto Paphos, they found a certain sorcerer, a false prophet, a Jew, whose name was Bar-jesus;7 who was with the proconsul, Sergius Paulus, a man of understanding. The same called unto him Barnabas and Saul, and sought to hear the word of God.8 But Elymas the sorcerer (for so is his name by interpretation) withstood them, seeking to turn aside the proconsul from the faith.9 But Saul, who is also called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, fastened his eyes on him,10 and said, O full of all guile and all villany, thou son of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?11 And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon thee, and thou shalt be blind, not seeing the sun for a season. And immediately there fell on him a mist and a darkness; and he went about seeking some to lead him by the hand.12 Then the proconsul, when he saw what was done, believed, being astonished at the teaching of the Lord.13 Now Paul and his company set sail from Paphos, and came to Perga in Pamphylia: and John departed from them and returned to Jerusalem.14 But they, passing through from Perga, came to Antioch of Pisidia; and they went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and sat down.15 And after the reading of the law and the prophets the rulers of the synagogue sent unto them, saying, Brethren, if ye have any word of exhortation for the people, say on.16 And Paul stood up, and beckoning with the hand said, Men of Israel, and ye that fear God, hearken:17 The God of this people Israel chose our fathers, and exalted the people when they sojourned in the land of Egypt, and with a high arm led he them forth out of it.18 And for about the time of forty years as a nursing-father bare he them in the wilderness.19 And when he had destroyed seven nations in the land of Canaan, he gave them their land for an inheritance, for about four hundred and fifty years:20 and after these things he gave them judges until Samuel the prophet.21 And afterward they asked for a king: and God gave unto them Saul the son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for the space of forty years.22 And when he had removed him, he raised up David to be their king; to whom also he bare witness and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after My heart, who shall do all My will.23 Of this man’s seed hath God according to promise brought unto Israel a Saviour, Jesus;24 when John had first preached before his coming the baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel.25 And as John was fulfilling his course, he said, What suppose ye that I am? I am not he. But behold, there cometh one after me the shoes of whose feet I am not worthy to unloose.26 Brethren, children of the stock of Abraham, and those among you that fear God, to us is the word of this salvation sent forth.27 For they that dwell in Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they knew him not, nor the voices of the prophets which are read every sabbath, fulfilled them by condemning him.28 And though they found no cause of death in him, yet asked they of Pilate that he should be slain.29 And when they had fulfilled all things that were written of him, they took him down from the tree, and laid him in a tomb.30 But God raised him from the dead:31 and he was seen for many days of them that came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are now his witnesses unto the people.32 And we bring you good tidings of the promise made unto the fathers,33 that God hath fulfilled the same unto our children, in that he raised up Jesus; as also it is written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee.34 And as concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he hath spoken on this wise, I will give you the holy and sure blessings of David.35 Because he saith also in another psalm, Thou wilt not give Thy Holy One to see corruption.36 For David, after he had in his own generation served the counsel of God, fell asleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption:37 but he whom God raised up saw no corruption.38 Be it known unto you therefore, brethren, that through this man is proclaimed unto you remission of sins:39 and by him every one that believeth is justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.40 Beware therefore, lest that come upon you which is spoken in the prophets:

41 Behold, ye despisers, and wonder, and perish; For I work a work in your days, A work which ye shall in no wise believe, if one declare it unto you.

42 And as they went out, they besought that these words might be spoken to them the next sabbath.43 Now when the synagogue broke up, many of the Jews and of the devout proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas; who, speaking to them, urged them to continue in the grace of God.44 And the next sabbath almost the whole city was gathered together to hear the word of God.45 But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with jealousy, and contradicted the things which were spoken by Paul, and blasphemed.46 And Paul and Barnabas spake out boldly, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first be spoken to you. Seeing ye thrust it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of eternal life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles.47 For so hath the Lord commanded us, saying, I have set thee for a light of the Gentiles, That thou shouldest be for salvation unto the uttermost part of the earth.

48 And as the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of God: and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed.49 And the word of the Lord was spread abroad throughout all the region.50 But the Jews urged on the devout women of honorable estate, and the chief men of the city, and stirred up a persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and cast them out of their borders.51 But they shook off the dust of their feet against them, and came unto Iconium.52 And the disciples were filled with joy with the Holy Spirit.
